I had EL wires installed that were white, but their controller got fried when the car was being worked on. Before I did anything about fixing them, I had the car repainted in matte black, and I went red with the trim (side vents/lower front vents, Boxster badge, and the little trim above the tailpipe), so I decided to go red with some interior stuff too. So I did the door pulls, the little clip on the door handles, a red "Boxster" decal on the batwing - from irock decals. Because of that, I decided to go red with the EL wires too. I ordered two different sets, but they looked orange, regardless of whether they were on or off, so after watching a couple of videos, I decided to try the fibre optic route. Now they look clear/white when off, and when I turn the headlights on, they look pure red. They don't light nearly as evenly as the EL wires do, but they look pretty good.

@@RichardFlores2323 The EL wires were actually too bright, and I had to order a dimmer for them. The dimmer got fried somehow when the car was in for some work, and when I went to replace them I decided to go red (the EL wires were white), but the red EL wires looked a lot more orange than red (both on and off), so I went with the fibre optic.

Looks great. I did the same on my 986. What brand did you use? I used xk glow and able to change colors thru app.

@@tweetdriver yes I went with XK glow fiber optic and I'm able to change colors and dim all thru my phone app. Works great.
