That's what I was gonna say! I found it rather amusing that the narrator made an intro for FAR 103 and then proceeded to show an aircraft that doesn't even fit into that category! 😆
2-seater aircraft are NOT FAR103 legal ultralights. Nor is any aircraft with an empty weight above 254 pounds. FAR103 regs say; single seat, empty weight of 254Lbs max (excluding floats & safety devices), max fuel capacity of 5 gallons, max speed @ full throttle of 55 knots, max power-off stall speed of 24 knots. Anything outside of those requirements is a "light sport" aircraft and requires - at a minimum - a light-sport pilot certificate, which requires - at a minimum - 20 hours of training, along with an FAA written exam, and an FAA approved flight exam. And a Light Sport aircraft must be registered and have an condition inspection done annually... by a FAA recognized A&P (or holder of an Light Sport Repairmen Certificate with either a maintenance or inspection rating). Also, the light-sport license has other restrictions; such single, piston engine; fixed gear; gross take-off weight of 1320Lbs; day-VFR flying only; max seating of 2; and a catagory/class rating. Which is initally confined to the catagory & class of plane you took your check-ride in. Additional ratings (such as sea-plane, tailwheel, etc.) can be obtained, with additional training and - I believe - another check-ride in that type of plane.

Got all wrong, not even the prices are near close to 2024 prices. Most of the planes here are not available new anymore, the Aerolite 103 is the only one still available and supported professionally.
I bought my first airplane for $38 off ebay, my second one for $99 off of Barnstormers, and my third one I got free. I got offered a forth one free but I passed on it. Here's my advice if you look to the sky and want to fly -- forget airplanes. They won't get you flying, and if they do, it's both terrifying and mindblowingly boring at the same time. You'll be disappointed. If you want the most fun and to fly for the most cheap, any place and any time of day with zero cost, simulators are the way to go. If you really want to, you can then move over to RC and FPV, but those are one step down from being as fun as a simulator. But the reality with FPV is, you don't need to risk your neck, or your spine, or buy a hanger, or grade a runway, or sit in a cockpit any more to enjoy flying. You can carry your airplane now in your hand and keep both feet safe on the ground. Your eyeballs get to go up in the sky, and you can do all the dangerous aerobatics you want. So my advice to all wannabe pilots... forget airplanes. They are the worst way to fly. In the beginning you think, well, I want to fly, so first I need an airplane. I don't have one, and to buy them is too expensive, so I have to build one. You'll find that 9 out of 10 times that leads to a dead in road and for everyone who suceeds and finishes it, there are 9 others that don't. It's time consuming, complicated, expensive, space consuming, labor intensive, dangerous, and just just the wrong worst way to go about things. You would actually be better off to learn how to fly first. Those who start off building a plane first, usually have the plane take up so much of their attention to get it finished, that they never once think much of learning to fly, and promptly wreck it on the first flight attempt. Or soon thereafter. Get yourself a good simulator setup, and if after a year of flying that you're not bored with it all, and you got money burning a hole in your pocket, get into FPV.

Habits and knowledge about the mechanics of flying RC models resulted in real aviation. Currently, I have flown 6 hours in a Cessna 152 and you may not believe me, I land without any problems even with a crosswind. I don't see any reason why I shouldn't get on an ultralight plane in the 115kg category now. I'm even looking for one to buy :-) Of course, I confirm that a person from the "street" who has no idea about flight mechanics and who has not flown on his own before will most likely crash, and hopefully without major injuries to himself and other people. Every future pilot in this category should be required to fly a minimum of 10 hours in a small light aircraft and this should be included in the law. In my flying club they say that the legislator's intention was to make this unlicensed category for former pilots who no longer meet the health conditions and not for new learners, you can partially agree with that.
Last month I flew my FPV quadcopter 300 miles to visit my elderly mom. She's hard of hearing so the prop noise didn't bother her. We had a nice conversation and a lovely hug. She's happy I don't fly my dangerous light plane anymore. Not really.

CGS Hawk - too heavy and no 2 seats here. I could go on, but it looks like many vehicles show here are actually in Europe, where the "ultralight" rules are quite different.
Almost back to the Wright Bros Flier --just far more powerful & lighter engines ----far more compact --imagnine if Orville could see these ultralights ?
True, and so does adding a ballistic parachute. These both increase the maximum allowable weight. I just wish they'd stop using "ultralight" and part 103 for aircraft that are obviously not qualified!
THE BEST ULTRALIGHT EVER MADE WAS THE ROTEC RALLY 2 B . STRONGEST AND SAFEST CONSTRUCTION DESIGN . I HAD ONE WITH FLOATS . HAD A ROTAX ENGINE OF 42 HP. ROTEC ALSO MADE A 2 SEATER CALLED THE BIG LIFTER . IN THE EARLY 80S THE KIT , WHICH I HAD THEM BUILD , WAS 3000 . I ADDED A BALISTIC CHUTE TO IT JUST IN CASE THAT ALONE ADDED TO THE PRICE THE FLOATS WERE EXTRA WHEN ALL WAS SAID AND DONE IT WAS CLOSE TO 8 ,000 WHICH IS STILL PRETTY CHEAP

Sorry gentlemen most of these aircraft are not ultralight 103 as per the FAA regulations Single Seed 5 gallons of gas and not over 254 lb there are very few airplanes in this video that even qualify
The 150 requires annuals, is subject to ADs, and the pilot needs to be licensed with a current BFR. I think it now qualifies for LSA, but don't quote me on that. If it doesn't, then you need a medical or equivalent. If you can stay OK with the FAA after all that, why not, and you get to carry a passenger. With a part 103 ultralight, you take all the risk and save all the money. The other thing is that ultralights take only a few hundred feet at most, and the 150 needs more. Both should be hangared if they're to last and stay safe from vandalism.
a two seater is not an ultralight. You will need to have a private pilot's license to fly them. It might be classed as a "light sport" plane, but it's not a FAR103 ultralight. A FAR103 ultralight is limited to the following: (a) Is used or intended to be used for manned operation in the air by a single occupant; (b) Is used or intended to be used for recreation or sport purposes only; (c) Does not have any U.S. or foreign airworthiness certificate; and (d) If unpowered, weighs less than 155 pounds; or (e) If powered: (1) Weighs less than 254 pounds empty weight, excluding floats and safety devices which are intended for deployment in a potentially catastrophic situation; (2) Has a fuel capacity not exceeding 5 U.S. gallons; (3) Is not capable of more than 55 knots calibrated airspeed at full power in level flight; and (4) Has a power-off stall speed which does not exceed 24 knots calibrated airspeed. Anything else is and aircraft that requires registration and a private pilots license to fly. Just because an aircraft looks like an ultralight doesn't mean it is a legal ultralight.
So you can buy an aircraft for $900.00 and fly without a pilots licence? Why am I finding this very hard to believe? It's almost as if the creator of this video has made it up.
I'd be shocked to find a decent part 103 U/L that costs $900 complete and is capable of repeatedly and safely taking off , flying within its flight envelope, and landing. If you have one for sale, please contact me!
@@LeePeters-z4g The title will mislead people looking for information on ultralight aircraft possibly discouraging them from a great sport/hobby or buying an airplane in the wrong category.
We need to stop calling electric powered anything " environmentally friendly" at this time. There is not anything about electric batteries that are environmentally friendly. To top this off, the whole section based on the Zigolo MG12 was explained to be electric yet every video clip of this one is a ICE powered machine.
Incredibly irresponsible video giving false and incorrect information bot in the video and in the description. The creator of this content could have spent a bit of time actually gathering the correct info on the planes featured. In description it reads “all the planes featured here are 103 compliant.” Line maybe 2 of these planes are. The $900 thumbnail is just plain malicious misleading to get clicks. Shame on you!
That's as wrong as the information in this video. As a licensed wildlife control agent in the state of Virginia, I know for a fact if licensing wasn't required then there would be way too many people just willy-nilly killing wildlife. That's just one example. There's a million more. Try again.

Who really knows just how hard they are to fly..... that's a toss up & I'd never hold you to this being truthful b/c that's not important. What is of the most importance to Your Video Title is that No License is required. That's not some little oversight on your part if you care about how we think of you? 2 Seat Planes, more than 5 gallon fuel tanks, and other considerations are of the utmost of importance to your channel being considered reliable. I'm glad you're good at doing videos but consider not stretching the truth on the Title because it can be misconceived as ignorance or out -n- out LYing just to get views? I'm saying do your best to label it correctly, you didn't do well on this Title & it's important to me. peace man
When I was very young was nice that these aircraft didn't needed a licence to fly it. Now I'm a 50 year old pilot, and think it's criminal to allow people to fly one of these things without training and a license. You can easily kill yourself or kill others if you are not trained properly

In my country you are not aloud to fly anything except RC: s without license.
In my country, you even need a license to fly RC!
Wow! it costs less than a funeral.
If it seats two people, it's not an ultra-light. If it has a N number, it's not an ultralight.
So you can buy an aircraft for $900.00 and fly without a pilots licence? Why am I finding this very hard to believe?
It's almost as if the creator of this video has made it up.
The price depends on the condition but you don't need a license for ultralight aircraft.
@@pctrashtalk2069 That’s shocking!
I'd be shocked to find a decent part 103 U/L that costs $900 complete and is capable of repeatedly and safely taking off , flying within its flight envelope, and landing. If you have one for sale, please contact me!
A whole video of misinformation.
How so
Duh...it's RUclips.its Entertainment only man. Nice footage though. get an idea of what's out there.
@@LeePeters-z4g The title will mislead people looking for information on ultralight aircraft possibly discouraging them from a great sport/hobby or buying an airplane in the wrong category.
No passengers allowed for ultralights. That’s just problem #1 with this.
Das Video ist viel zu lang für so wenig Inhalt.
We need to stop calling electric powered anything " environmentally friendly" at this time. There is not anything about electric batteries that are environmentally friendly. To top this off, the whole section based on the Zigolo MG12 was explained to be electric yet every video clip of this one is a ICE powered machine.
Buying the cheapest aircraft you can find is not the best idea. Lynrd Skynrd did that.
Not one was $900!
Could not even buy an engine for $4,000 !
Most seem to fall under ELSA regs.
Oceansgate is selling submersibles for $900
So much misinformation.
Do your own research.
Kau dah tahu kapal terbang dah lalu dekat situ nak tahu dia pegi mana pegi ikut sendiri
Nothing should require a license, it is evil.
I know
That's as wrong as the information in this video. As a licensed wildlife control agent in the state of Virginia, I know for a fact if licensing wasn't required then there would be way too many people just willy-nilly killing wildlife. That's just one example. There's a million more. Try again.
@different-abled
I especially want to get back surgery done by a mental ill guy Trump. That’s my dream
These are not “cheap” or ultralights.
You can build your own for $900, IF you're clever enough and have a large amount of tools and appropriate materials already.
Bro u stupid it easy to buy part now😂😂
I'm not a pilot & I'd appreciate GREATLY if the Title of a Video meant something to the creator of the video? Who really knows just
how hard they are to fly..... that's a toss up & I'd never hold you to this being truthful b/c that's not important. What is of the most
importance to Your Video Title is that No License is required. That's not some little oversight on your part if you care about how
we think of you? 2 Seat Planes, more than 5 gallon fuel tanks, and other considerations are of the utmost of importance to your
channel being considered reliable. I'm glad you're good at doing videos but consider not stretching the truth on the Title because
it can be misconceived as ignorance or out -n- out LYing just to get views? I'm saying do your best to label it correctly, you didn't
do well on this Title & it's important to me. peace man
Sell me one for $1000 lol that will never happen
i got one barnstormers oct 2023 1000 bucks
When I was very young was nice that these aircraft didn't needed a licence to fly it. Now I'm a 50 year old pilot, and think it's criminal to allow people to fly one of these things without training and a license. You can easily kill yourself or kill others if you are not trained properly
not true, you just got old
Without training, you risk yourself. The chance of injuring others is minimal.
We have far too many regulations already.
Either you don't understand what an ultralight aircraft is or you're outright misinforming folk. smh
Poorly researched. Not accurate. US, Canadian, Europe all define ultralight differently. All cost at bottom end - just poorly done
To expensive
😢
I wish they bring back the visible dislike button.
No
What kind of B.S. this is, can buy this for $900.00 what a JOKE the answer is LOL NO!!! Maybe $9,000.00 you might find one why not just tell the TRUE!!!
Satu tempat satu vedio youtube yang kau bagi recording media aku tak tengok kerja nak pangil bini anak beranak kejra lain lain lain nak ikut macam mana kau kena terus lepas tak apa aku kena tak duit tak ada jamin tak ada apa pon tak ada
Who cares ill fly them regardless
These are becoming overprice junk if you ask me
Pretty much BS. The guy is spewing mass quantities of bad information.
This sounds so bad & so misinformed.
scam vid
This video is filled with misinformation. However, there is a hidden value in these little Tinkertoy "aircraft" - when they crash and kill you, the wreckage is folded around you and serves double duty as your coffin!
Isn't it crazy how far you too was fallen when they started there were no standards now there are standards it's s***
terrible video
What a load of misinformation.somebody needs to go back and do some proper reaearch.SMH. ppl holder here.
Shit, I can get a good Cessna 170 for less $
