We got a heeler pup about 5 months ago and your videos have helped us so much! He has really come a long way since we first got him, but is still very much in the puppy stage... the worst thing right now is he absolutely cannot control himself around food. He won't eat his own food from his bowl until he hears the "take it" command, but when it comes to our food, he is constantly trying to get on the counters, get on the high chair, dig in the trashcan, and is even very forceful while I am loading the dishwasher. Any tips or a video on how to correct this would be MUCH appreciated!! Thanks again for all of your videos. They're great!
Hey there! I would start by breaking the habit. Do not give your dog opportunity to eat any human food! Lock the dog up while eating and by all means keep the dog away from both baby and high chair. It takes a lot of work and a ton of consistency. But I have seen dogs come back from the brink of all food related habits!
The perfect breed to have for these videos. Heelers are super intelligent...ours are too and I have done the same,I talk to them like I would a young child. They get it
They really do. I am always comparing children and healers. I'm always telling people to talk to their dog like they would a 2-year-old except less words ,🤣🤣🤣
I just find you! I just got a red heeler 2 yrs old . He rares with dogs , people approaching and cars coming towards us, a lot of barking and threatening what do you think I should do. He is a good boy and already knows some commands! commands! Any advice is much appreciated😊
I really want a Blue Heeler but I don’t have children, i don’t feel confident enough to ask neighbours’s children to try these tricks, I know it’s kinda obvious but can I try these tricks with an adult. Because I want to prevent them to do this with my family/friends’s children.
We have a rescue blue healer smartest breed ever owned; we’ve never had to deal with the nipping not sure what to do:) please help; def a part of a big loud excited child family.
I just got my australian cattle puppy he's 3 months. But he was abused by previous people. He's scared of every living movement and people. Barking at everyone and runs away. I domt wanna have a aggressive puppy at 3 months. I'm putting him in classes I pray thry help him with trusting people. He doesn't like my son or husband only me
Just found your page ! I’m currently pregnant and my dog is already people aggressive to those he hasn’t met yet or even some that he has and he just doesn’t like them. I can’t get him to stop nipping people when they meet and thank god everyone he’s met has been very easy going. My boyfriend is worried that my puppy might nip my baby either out of jealousy or just because he don’t want the baby in there. I have high hopes for the baby but ofc precautions are always best to take
Cattle dogs know who is family and will usually bond with 'their' little humans strongly. Obviously close supervision is a must but involve your dog with your new born, your self and your boyfriend when ever practical so it doesn't feel isolated but part of the family. Congratulations and wishing you health and happiness for all of you.
@@zalired8925 if you’re cattle dog is familiar with someone and just seems to hate them, trust the dog. In my experience of 30 years of having cattle dogs they know something you don’t, those people who were fairly good friends I thought, turned out to be no good
Hi BonneLife! Great tips! We have a Red Heeler, 1yo, Manju. She is a good girl, very vibrant and friendly. However, she doesnt like to be pet or cuddle... is this normal? Cheers from Brazil.
My 8 yo grandson was 5 yo when we got our blue heeler. As a puppy she scratched and nipped at all of us. My grandson was never knocked down. The puppy stage is where most people give up. The scratching is out of love..lol. I think somehow we inadvertently got it right..lol.
Has your dog ever attacked you or your family? My brother has a red cattle dog and its attacked me and my whole family. It just gets triggered by anything. Is this treatable with board and train or do we have to put him to sleep?
@@BonneLife1 We got a baby heeler at 6 weeks. She is now 10 weeks old. She is doing well with most training but she has been nipping quite often. Her teeth are very sharp and starting to do damage. We have grandchildren that are afraid of her because her nipping is so rough. Can you please elaborate on the muzzle grab or maybe add a video on nipping? We absolutely love your videos and advice. Thank you so much!

I agree with this comment. Although the aggressive behavior should be addressed as soon as possible.

Yes! S9 many 1 year old heelers get rehomed. What a shame.

thank you this helps a lot although my dog is pretty stubborn, but I’ll try this out
That's because they're bred too bully cattle 40x their weight m
Do you have a video on how to stop biting & nipping from puppy age?
I would also love tips on puppy training with children!
My number one recommendation would be the muzzle grab! It works like a charm and their mothers to it so they understand it quickly

Hi :D
Where are u located Bc I got a red heeler n he’s just won’t listen to me when I’m trying to train him with my young children n to listen period
I understand the frustration. I am in SC right now but i do offer virtual training or over the phone! Send me an email, thebonnelife@gmail.com
He probably thinks that he is one of the kids and doesn't understand why he's being treated differently.
I have a cattle dog called Tessa
Awesome! I hope she is doing good!
