As a Duke Fan the game would’ve been a lot different with Jamal shead in the game. S/o Houston though Tough bunch of guys to play against didn’t give Duke the easy win

Houston is a frequent preseason scrimmage partner for my alma mater, Duke, and for a good reason. Houston is a tough, tough team every year. I'm very sorry about Shead...a truly tragic loss at this time of year. Looking back over Duke's history, I can think of injuries that cost us shots at national titles too--Robert Brickey in the 1988 Final Four, Kyrie Irving all season in 2011, Zion Williamson most of the season in 2019... and I hated it so much. North Carolina lost Armando Bacot to injury with mere seconds to go in the national final in 2022, converting what would have been an almost certain layup for a 1-point lead into a turnover down 1. Also, I thought Kelvin Sampson showed enormous class in the postgame presser as well. When asked if he thought Houston would have won but for Shead's injury, he refused to answer...and that is EXACTLY the right answer. Everyone knows he thinks so, and even I think so, but he had the class to avoid saying it and possibly offending an opponent. I'll forever appreciate that.

March Madness is better than NBA.
Lies you tell. A 54 - 51 final score, where both teams shot under 41%, and had a combined 24 TOs is not the upper echelon of basketball. It's actually setting the sport back. The quality of play, coaching, and shot-making isn't remotely on the same level. 😂
The Knicks - Spurs regular season game, who are both far from being top teams, was better than anything the men's March Madness tourney has produced thus far and probably the rest of the way.

As a Duke Alumni and forever fan, I have to admit I was anxious and nervous leading up to the game because I knew Houston wasn’t going to hand the game over to Duke- my #BlueDevils were going to have to work for a win. I was their biggest cheer leader while I watched from home while my Dukies showed up and showed out! #GoDuke #DukeBlueDevils #DukeAlumni

Great coaching job by Scheyer, I've watched the boys crumble a couple games this year after getting hit in the mouth early.
I couldn’t believe they hung tough and pulled it off. This Duke team usually folds when a team comes out strong against them. Lol I honestly can’t wait til next year. Making the elite 8 is huge though

Not a Duke fan but give them their flowers. I don't think alot of college ball fans had them going this far. Hats off to Houston. After Shead went down they continued to battle.
Admittedly, odds must've been much lower with Shead on the court for Duke. But injuries are nothing but part of the game. Duke did a solid job and clearly deserved a victory en route to the Elite Eight.

I've been a Duke fan since the JJ Reddick era, and it's crazy to see how much the game has changed. Solid win by Duke against a very tough UH team.

I'm almost convinced Scheyer is taking a bit from the load management playbook, and telling his teams to play it easy and safe before the Tournament.
They’ve played 2 double digit seeded teams and a good team without their best player. Been fairly easy I’d say.
His road record is not good so far but playing well on d. NC state is playing good gonna be interesting!

Honestly, as an NCSU alumnus, I’m not looking forward to my team playing Duke again after we managed to get past them in the ACC tournament.
Man I have been pleasantly surprised by this duke teams ability to take it up a notch in the physicality and hustle. They've got the talent to win the title this year, but they better bring this fight sunday afternoon to the State game! They are the better team and should win. Other than UCONN, I don't think any of the remaining teams in the tourney are as good as Duke at their best. They bring it like they did tonight and they may just go all the way! Great time to be a duke fan, elite 8, potential title and then we get Flagg next year? Awesome!

Just now watching the highlights from the game. I had to be at work at 5 a.m. this morning but I watched the whole game last night (Now I'm sleepy) 😆😆😆 But it was worth it!!! Since Jon Scheyer took over Duke has been constantly called soft and weak and last years loss to Tennessee and the first five minutes of this game did not help their case. But in that second half I saw the most fight and grit that I’ve seen in a Duke team in years.

Jamal Shead leaving the floor with an ankle injury became too much for Houston to overcome, but credit Duke for matching the physicality of the cougars and making it a grind out type game
This Houston team minus Shead is pretty much the equivalent of Tennessee last year. Which Duke lost too by just getting Bullied. Credit to Duke for getting Tougher!

Shead getting injured like that really cast a pall over the tournament. Reminded me of Kenyon Martin for Cincinnati in 2000 or even Derrick Rose in the NBA for the Bulls in 2012.
I am shocked Duke won. They are a good but not great team, but you've got to give them credit for getting it done.

NC State’s opponent in the South Region Final is Duke University as the 4th ranked Blue Devils eliminated the 1st seeded University of Houston Cougars for the 2nd year in a row, 54-51 & headed to the #Elite8 since 2022.

I’m surprised about the energy change from Duke when the regular season ended they were beat badly by unc and nc state I didn’t think Duke would go this far in the tournament but they proving they’re still worthy nc state is gonna be tough but hopefully Duke pulls it off
they werent beaten badly, unc barely won at duke last game of the season and needed 32 points a career high from cormac ryan to do it, and kyle had 30 or 32 points vs nc state and they barely lost that game. i think duke can beat nc state this time. duke shot very poorly that game and only kyle played well that game in the acc tourney. keep in mind duke blewout nc state in the last game of the season for nc state at home on senior night.

hey UK fans? if you’re watching i’m gonna remind you that coaching matters-even though Duke isn’t fully one and done like UK, they just beat a team with TONS of experience compared to their experience level. oh and Jon just OUTCOACHED Kelvin in the 2nd half. and next year their class is MILES better than this year, which is the scary part.
oh and Alabama and Tennessee are in the elite 8. so the SEC is nowhere near UK’s conference anymore.
