Vanilla WoW was so revolutionary on many aspects. WoW was a cutting edge game that pushed the envelope. Why do games continuously patch their games today. Vanilla wow. It was headed in that direction anyway, it was not the first game that did it. But it was that game that did it so comprehensively and to a whole standard. That was also one of the justification as to why you paid a monthly sub. People were used to, when they bought a game it was with warts and all. They were also more ready to go, more time in the oven.. but that’s one area WoW pushed the envelope.
Whats the population like and is character transfer a thing? Tried the last fresh launch on pvp server and faction imbalance was real, literally couldnt quest in any zone
There’s an established and original main PvE server with anywhere from 3k to 7k players consistently throughout the day, and a PvP server that’s honestly, significantly less popular yet is still played on. I personally would recommend rolling on the PvE server. There is cross-faction party so you can always find a group for all the content.
But u still can see allot of world pvp cause turtle wow have a “war mode”(permanent pvp on challenge with +30% xp from all sources) and it’s quite allot of people using this one.
I'd really enjoy a video with your insights on how you opinions have changed/remained the same from before to after being on the inside of working on in the "scene."
I still think adding TBC races and starting zones to a Vanilla server wouldn't be going too far. Would make the most sense for trying to add new races to a Classic+ server.
Played to lvl 60 with a friend who never played wow before. We had such a good time exploring twow and leveling up. Once we hit 60 we were a bit burnt out by it and switched to LOTRO. I for one am very much looking forward to twow 2! I will be playing the heck out of that version.
I'm only level 25 but so far I've done 2 dungeons(wailing caverns & deadlines) both had additional bosses in new custom areas of the dungeons but it didn't feel like they were "added" it just felt like they were bosses that had always been there. Their custom content feels so seamless it's insane. I've done a lot of custom quests as well. It was pretty cool running into a quest and being like "what? I don't remember this quest" since I've done the leveling so many times I can pretty much do it in my sleep except in Twow since there are so many custom quests. It's refreshing not actually knowing where to go and having to take a second to think about it.
Man , Really enjoy their Gilneas dungeon , I only got to level 50 thus far , I most really enjoy it keep pumping out my $$$💰 to the donation shop , with their new model skins
Tons, tons new items, I mean lvling items, u can grab interesting custom items while lvling, for example u can get a trinket for +2hp per 5 sec on lvl 12 as horde, trinket +4 attack power.

Turtle WoW is on the right path. The new fresh classic anniversary servers look sus. I might give them a try, but you're right with what you said. Twow's philosophy is overall better than Blizzard's vision for their ideal WoW server. Thanks for the video, Mcdoubles 🤙
I am hesitating to start play on this server, because - yes, probably i can find party in all dungeons if spend around half of day or day, looking for some at leveling, but surely it's can't be that i can find as non-tank group for some unpopular late dungeons not as boss rush run, like full run brd, or full sunken temple - it's only possible on "fresh" server.
@@saiteimahoushoujo tons of people are levelling alts. There is always 4k players minimum at any hour of the day. Ofc it's not fresh but you will find a group for any dungeon at any level.
Woodworking is a concept wasted on Ascension. I feel most crafting on Ascension has limited value, as you get gear from other sources so much faster & will likely out level the equipment before you can make it. Things with no substitute or much cheaper are still worth the time, but most are callboard value only. The high-risk stuff brings some value back. I always viewed professions in WoW as either augmenting (almost reqired for end game) or alternative ways to gear. Always felt the max level armor should be more comparable to raid tiers, & the weapons be best-in-slot. Vanilla had more of this with crafted items being required. The other purpose was to save gold on things you could or had to buy, ammo and bags being the main ones. Woodworking could fill almost all the gaps in gear alternatives (shields, staves, bows, relics) and consumables (seeds, arrows, sybols). With adding Jewelcrafting, this needs to be th next step. If Ascension can share the code with Turtle, that will help their team out.
Was hoping to hear some info on the new patch, haven't played on TWOW since last may 2024. By the way guys, gardening & survival are separate secondary professions. If 1.17.2 is out now, I think there's also a new primary profession. Maybe it's time to come back, is the Tower of Karazhan open? I got tired of killing KT and all other raids every week.
As a new player, I love every minute of it. Just to make everyone’s minds at ease, I haven’t had an issue with downloading, and playing yet. Just to be clear, make sure you always don’t play on a pc with ur info on it. Then have all the fun you want! I just did the deadmines instance last night, and had a blast with that new content.
@ well if it gets hacked, download link gets replaced, addons, etc I would never keep taxes, finances, and other important information on that machine with those along with the private server client. It’s just common sense.
After SoD I have given up completely with hopes that blizzard will get it. The only thing blizzard gets is money. It's nice to have a server that wont change expac in 2 years too like the new classic realms
Great video and a fantastic server! I hope Asencion's Original 9 Classic+ will be just as good but with some new flavor! Also Can you tell me where to get that action bar addon sir?
I have played TWOW on and off in this last year so I want to share my opinion, first of all if you want the absolute best leveling experience in all WOW history this is the server you need to play, and when you'll transition from a classic WOW zone to a custom new TWOW made zone you'll understand why,it's seamless, they simply did what Blizzard failed to do,Gilneas in TWOW is what Gilneas was supposed to be and not that shit seen in Cataclysm. Then comes the cross faction,I know this is controversial because people want to PVP all the time but players arent supposed to be soldier, they are adventurers so it's perfectly fine in my opinion that outside structured PVP we can be safe,if someone don't agree can go play toxic servers like Warmane where in some zones you can't play. The classes are excellent,I'm playing hunter and after the last update I have a lot of choice on how to build my PG. But then why I play on and off? Well I'm not a PVE raider anymore,I really can't spend 2-3 hours earing people talk in voice chat,I don't have the patience so my end game doesn't exists since i can't do normal pre raid dungeons because for some reason I can't find group,I'm in a guild but they only farm raids. I like structured PVP but TWOW is stuck with the old ranking system and I don't like it,I want to do a BG and get rewarded if I do well and win,I want currency that lets me get gear and this seems won't ever happen in TWOW. Last negative thing is the client, with a WOTLK client loading times are istant and I have 180 FPS,with TWOW client the game takes forever to load and frame rates are lower than 60 FPS,macros don't work well and there are few compatible addons.
TurtleWoW is way bigger when you count all servers^^ last numbers I heared from SEA servers alone from a few months ago was around 75000 (yea I not misstyped that number)
don't get me wrong, i love twow and it's still the best server around imo. but i think they could be a little more conservative with some class changes. it isn't as bad as i thought in the begininning, but ret paladins feels a step into retail mechanics.
Unfortunately, the hype around turtle wow has brought in a lot of toxic players lately. All the griefing and trolling from Blizzard Classic servers is coming in.
Yes and no. They also were around almost 3 years ago when I started there. We had some pretty bad ppl over the years but fortunally in absolute minority.
I am just thankful that the server is an RP server, minimizing the world griefing as well as drawing the world griefers to be more moderate with their actions so they can interact more with the playerbase in a healthy manner.
As someone who vehemently hates the Turtle WoW Dev Team for their approach on many things that have nothing to do with running/developing a private server…I have to admit that they are the perfect kind of team to replace Blizzard. I think that’s why they are doing so well. They’ve shown they just don’t care about the players that MAY come and only care for the ones that remain. A decision that has doomed Blizzard in terms of content creation AND staff.
I tried TWoW but couldn't get over original class design. IMO, class design doesn't get enjoyable until Wrath. For that reason I stuck with Ascension, 3 years ago, after leaving the hot garbage scene known as retail.
i tried turtlewow but had video issues, the resolutions were unplayable with my main computer, i could not find a way to get the resolution high enough it looked horrible and was unplayable, i like full screen and couldnt get 5120x1440 to work, works in retail and ascension with 0 problems, i would love to play an old school rogue aka my first raiding class. ahh the memories of being number 1 in MC using full defias gear and 2 worn daggers, rogues really didnt scale with gear well but it was so fun, i did only have full bloodfand with perd blade main hand and core hound tooth offhand. loved it
When the unreal client comes out, I highly suggest giving it a shot. Sadly the 1.12 client has not aged well. And stuff like vanilla fixes can help but it's literally a 20 year old client.
You'll need to download vanillatweaks and vanillafixes, I had the same issue until I found out the game was defaulting my resolution to my tiny side monitor.
For me this is how I see modern MMORPG's and why they fail. 1.) They try to reinvent the wheel, Developers try to tell you how this is the most efficient way to gear. They try to tell you that all healers need to play the same, all DPS need a stun. Then to counteract some developers be like I'll create this and this class won't have this because of this niche so I'm just gonna do this for this reason and ya. Deal with it. OH PS as the dev I don't play it but whatever. That type of thing is just stupid. We see this in CoA they try to reinvent their healers to not have a filler spammable heal because they use rage / energy? Straying away from a base functional foundation. Taking away core functional foundations for no basis reason besides the fact they designed and say so. When no game in history strays from the foundation. For example DPS they need a spender, filler (single and AOE) and then buttons in between. (We don't take a filler and make it obeselet because the DPS class happens to have Energy instead of rage.) The filler is still there and usable but cadenced. *COUGH* DO SOMETHING MCDOUBLES WHY DO SOME HEALERS NOT HAVE SPAMMABLE FILLER CAPABILITY? We see this in retail WoW when they try to make Mistweaver, Holy Paladin and Resto Druid be able to fist weave / crusader strike / catweave to heal. Totally unhealthy, totally not okay. Turtle WoW didn't reinvent the wheel they improved the shortcoming and they kept the racial and talents still at the supbar level, not reinventing the wheel at all. Utility, class diversity, class roles are still all prevalent. Which is why I fear the "support DPS roles in CoA" most of em should be scrapped. 2.) They try to tell you its fun and they don't actually play it all, developers need to play the content . Anything new they design or shove in your face they don't test in all phases of content, Mythic, Heroic, Normal, Casual, Mythic + They don't compare its performance to the others classes. Turtle WoW fixed grinds and listened to the community and they actually play the content and compare performances. Then they tune to bring it all to a fun and fair play field. 3.) Greed. Modern MMORPG's just want consistent ez cashflow and constantly want to go for seasonal passes and seasonal content. We see cash grabs in New World, Throne and Liberty, etc. Which devalues your work as a player if you spent hours and days and weeks on getting geared knowing in 3 months it doesn't mean a thing. *** No balance between it :(( They need money I get it. But hey we need good content / gameplay.
I feel bored. Ascension brings cool char building, but ultimately it's just differently colored nukes, and nothing to do with those chars other than doing all the same dungeons all over again, while open world is just dead even if you do Adventure mode. Turtle brings open world, but not quite enough due to no wipe and pvp toggle. All the other servers are just meh. Project Epoch shows some promise, but it's still way out there. But ultimately no server dares to make changes big enough to truly bring something new. Back when I grew up, we used to have guild politics. We used to feel something towards our friends and foes. Because games had a way to make us compete. They kinda forced us at times, they made us suffer at times, but that was really for the benefit of the world as a whole. But now features like that are completely gone from mainstream games. You are supposed to be able to "go anywhere, do anything", but all of that has no meaning. You have great mass-pvp in TESO, but nobody needs the Emperor crown anyway. Actual player-driven content is completely out of theme park styled games, and is instead found only in games like EVE or Foxhole, which are too hardcore for most. Why can't modern devs see the middle ground DOES exist?
I really wanted to get into TWoW but my problem was really how slow everything felt. I wasnt looking for Ascension speeds of leveling but man it felt like every quest too 30 minutes at times and because of the way tagging works you could be sitting there for longer. The custom stuff is really cool and interesting but man vanilla WoW base content is like really boring and does not interest me at all.
I felt that way too, I've tried turtle wow many times in the past but always hated vanilla leveling speed. Lately I've been in the mood for that slow grind though so I'm finally getting into. I don't know why I'm down for slow leveling right now, I just am. I think you really have to be in that mindset where you're more interested in the journey than the destination.

We learned that the new patch is SoD'ifying the game and taking it too far away from Vanilla.
@Sinodashayla nice I assumed the population had dropped across the board but seems everyone flocked to pve after pissing each other off so much 😂
But u still can see allot of world pvp cause turtle wow have a “war mode”(permanent pvp on challenge with +30% xp from all sources) and it’s quite allot of people using this one.
Twow 2? Is that the unreal engine version?
@ahetzel9054 yes it is!
What are all these addons McDoubles is using? The map and UI looks a lot better
how much custom content is actually in Turtle wow?
@@Gavvernater A LOT. Custom quests & questlines, quest hubs, zones, dungeons/raids, new factions & rep rewards, class balancing & changes. It’s extensive and definitely worth checking out!!
Mostly each zone have a new custom sub zone in open world.
Random question, but what addon is being used to give the player/NPCs an animated portrait? That is so cool! Think I'm just a big fan of how McDoubles has his UI set up in general.
@@Zhawk1992 don’t know exactly what he’s using, but on Twow, the addon called pfUi will give you unit frames with animated portraits that look like that.
"Xperl" is the addon that gives you the 3d animated portraits.

How do you build a private server?
Ofc it's not fresh but you will find a group for any dungeon at any level.
what addons do u use
I might try it once unreal engine version comes out
love your content , love turtle wow team
The patch is out, has been for more than a week now. Idk if raid's open but class changes have been in for a little while now.
Yeap, jewelcraft added
As a new player, I love every minute of it. Just to make everyone’s minds at ease, I haven’t had an issue with downloading, and playing yet. Just to be clear, make sure you always don’t play on a pc with ur info on it. Then have all the fun you want! I just did the deadmines instance last night, and had a blast with that new content.
Why shouldnt be Info on the PC? The game cant install or read anything outside its folder
@ well if it gets hacked, download link gets replaced, addons, etc I would never keep taxes, finances, and other important information on that machine with those along with the private server client. It’s just common sense.

I hope they rebuff Hamstring from 6 sec cooldown to perhaps 4 sec. I dunno. 😅
I like the server i just wish they would help the pvp scene out a bit more they do have a pvp server but it is completely dead
@@abwesend182 I'm about to submit a resume with them to be a mod. Stuff's got crazy in the last couple of weeks.
Name one online community without annoying players...
@@HerrHoppenstedt Turtle WoW has traditionally had a very low griefer and troll level due to strict enforcement of rules.
The $150 invincible mount is a big nope for me buddy
Why can't the free to play vanilla wow server have an option for a whale to buy this mount? It helps everyone else play for free
@@mattlatham5670 Because it's against the lore that the server claims they are all for. Arthas is alive.
Twow ftw!
I actually hated goblins and high elves are pointless to me. We already had blood elves. 😂 If only they brought in Murloc and Nagas
I tried TWoW but couldn't get over original class design. IMO, class design doesn't get enjoyable until Wrath. For that reason I stuck with Ascension, 3 years ago, after leaving the hot garbage scene known as retail.
I think they changed enough to make classes fun.
The choice to set your own pace, the changes, the respect to the comunity, its free... WHY would I go and play retail?
A lot of lessons of what not to do
i tried turtlewow but had video issues, the resolutions were unplayable with my main computer, i could not find a way to get the resolution high enough it looked horrible and was unplayable, i like full screen and couldnt get 5120x1440 to work, works in retail and ascension with 0 problems, i would love to play an old school rogue aka my first raiding class. ahh the memories of being number 1 in MC using full defias gear and 2 worn daggers, rogues really didnt scale with gear well but it was so fun, i did only have full bloodfand with perd blade main hand and core hound tooth offhand. loved it
When the unreal client comes out, I highly suggest giving it a shot. Sadly the 1.12 client has not aged well. And stuff like vanilla fixes can help but it's literally a 20 year old client.
You'll need to download vanillatweaks and vanillafixes, I had the same issue until I found out the game was defaulting my resolution to my tiny side monitor.
There a wowtweaks exe to make the client run stable with high FPS and no bugs.
Whoa i also had a mage named boomboi. On classic, not turtle.
Let's play on turtle. Hit me up next time you're on the Nordnaar server.
TWOW is CRACKED. TWOW Fresh TWOW Fresh.
The main thing we learn is that people would rather play a knock off game instead of supporting the actual game.
Anything new they design or shove in your face they don't test in all phases of content, Mythic, Heroic, Normal, Casual, Mythic +
They don't compare its performance to the others classes.
***
No balance between it :(( They need money I get it.
Turtle WoW is what made me quit mainline WoW. At this point, I have no reason to play Blizzard's at this point
This server has ruined all other WoW experiences for me. It's so insanely good.
Survival Hunter in viable in turtle wow. Classic doesn't so....

Play a mage, aoe farm, ez.
Or Play hardcore mode. You will be thankful the game is mostly slow
@@chrisk1458 that doesnt really fix the problem because questing is just really slow.
TW for me is love and nostalgia for players who remember warcraft 3 and like the arthas story, only i want in the future is turtle wow go for wowlk too but without flying mounts, no teleport automatic to dungeons, and dk start at lvl 1 for example, etc.
