While I wish there were less stickers, I'm guessing it was done as a cost cutting measure. Overall, there are very few custom parts in the set, and the price is very reasonable as far as sets go.
A few years ago I sold my Sonic Lego Dimensions pack, and have regretged it ever since, so I was ecstatic when I heard this set was chosen! In my opinion it turned out even better than the original build, I love how good of a display piece it is and the figure has to be one of the best I've ever seen.
Hard disagree that it's better than the original, the death egg robot was such a perfect build, even including the extending arms as a play feature. That being said, if they end up making more sonic sets, the death egg robot could easily be it's own set later, and this definitely gives you more of the actual environment than the original build
@@danwolf6307 If this set came with the Death Egg Robot the price would’ve increased by $60, which would have been detrimental to the sales of this set. I’m sure if this set sells well, that robot will be included with a different Sonic set in the near future.

Not a set I'm personally interested in, but it looks pretty fun, they did a good job on that. It is a bit smallish though, so some add-on sets would definitely be nice. And it does indeed make you wonder why they didn't use those 1x1x2/3 bricks instead of stacked plates. Also, there should have been a stud in the top of the loop to pose Sonic upside down. Most disappointing though is the rather large number of stickers, and especially those on the sides of the loop look pretty bad, even on the official artwork.
Looks like a great set. A little disappointing though in how many stickers they used. Would have been nice if they could have made it so Sonic could be put on the top of the loop as well.

I'd go the other way and prefer a buildable Sega Genesis and Green Hills Zone level I could swap into the Mario NES set TV. Cranking the TV to see Sonic bounce through GHZ would be great!
2:30 There might be a possibility of future sets, the reason being is that on Lego's official shop you can only order a maximum of 2 green hill zone sets per household.
This is a really cool set! I've been excited since it got revealed! I do wish it had a feature that you can make Sonic do a loop in the loop in a ball that would have made this set even better! Also the villains are also cool
I was looking at the photos of this set on Instagram and was surprised they used 2 1x1 plates stacked instead of the new 1x1x2/3 plate/brick? with hole. Perhaps the set was finalized before the element was? Did they need to hit a certain piece count? 🤷♂️
Why do people keep asking this? The reason there's 7 chaos emeralds here is because it's a simple retcon, once they changed it to 7 in sonic 2, it's always been 7, even in most rereleases of sonic 1. You're basically asking why an error from the game didn't get carried into this set.
I hope they give us tails and shadow figures (mostly because I already own the dimensions set) because this theme has SO MUCH potential. Also I think the only flaw of this set was not doing a new mold for eggman's head
It’s easy to position sonic upside down in the loop by using the spare open black stud and the spare transparent dish (same as the positioning pieces on the pedestal)!
I hope this is not a last we see a Sonic set and they make a whole wave of sets for this theme like they do for Minecraft, Overwatch and Super Mario or at least a CMF series so we can have more of these iconic characters as a minifigures than just same old Sonic with a slight differences in his design and prints.
The more stickers I saw, the less interested I became. I suck at applying them, and don't like having to depend on others for a hobby. But the review was great, thanks!
you forgot to mention that the finished model it fits perfectly in the new box design if you want to put it away without dismantling parts. this is a big deal for me and some older collectors
This looks pretty cool, in my opinion. While I get the annoyance with stickers, I was one of those kids who loved to put the little stickers on all my Ninja Turtle playsets and vehicles so I'm not bothered. I remember the original Ideas submission and yeah, no Death Egg Robot is disappointing, but adding it would've put the whole set out of my price range. This is made for Sonic fans, not necessarily LEGO Maniacs (if that's still a term), so I get the lower price point to get casual fans like myself onboard. tl;dr: looks cool, would build and display on a bookshelf, hoping for a tails and knuckles minifig next
The way I see it, it's like going to a concert and the band doesn't play it's big hit song. Sure, I agree with you that GHZ is totally overplayed, but it's iconic. It's the very first thing most people think of when they hear Sonic, which is why I think the Sonic Mania aspect of the original Ideas concept was dropped. Maybe not every gamer has heard of Sonic Mania, but they HAVE heard of Green Hill Zone. Speaking of overplayed zones you can mark my words as some internet rando right now that if LEGO continues these Sonic dioramas the next one will be Chemical Plant Zone
Man, this looks super. I’ll be honest, way better than the fan submission. As others have said, which the Mario sets would’ve been in this style. Wasn’t really planning on getting this set, but now I’ve seen it, I think I’ll have to get
Also another thing, the back of the instructions shows Eggman stomping on the word “end” which I think (?) is a reference to the mobile version of Sonic 2
I hope this sold well enough to get more sets. This was super fun to build and I even got a second one so I could freestyle some geometry to add onto it.
Yeah, I just put together the Winnie the Pooh set the other day, and I got bored just piecing together the 72 leave pieces on the branches of the tree. Now this set is dealing with *a few hundred* square studs!? I'm still buying it for the minifig and hoping that this becomes a full theme, but I'm almost *dreading* building this set...
I really hope Lego makes more sets based on video games, though I know licensing can be a bitch. Sets based on stuff like Zelda, Metroid, or even Banjo would be an instant purchase for me.
Honestly I would have been fine with eggman design from dimensions like the way his legs model looked other than that I’m extremely happy I bought this set
Man, the blue blur always seems to get the raw end of the deal, Mario got an electronics figurine with all the iconic sounds and action, Sonic is just a minifig.
I love this set, I really hope they release some sonic 2 and sonic 3 themed sets as well, or maybe a starlight zone or labyrinth zone themed set if they want to stick with sonic 1. Plus they have to include tails and knuckles mini figs now especially with the new film release!!
Well, since it´s been two years and this set is now retiring (I have purchased one and consider purchasing second one - one to keep sealed and one to build), I guess they won´t continue in this style. :-( Such a shame, I would love if they did other zones (with other figures like Tails or Knuckles or Mecha Sonic). How awesome it would be if we could connect this set to for example Chemical plant zone, and then to Mushroom Hill to complete the three OG games!
I bought this set with my birthday money. Loved building it, but I agree the 1x1 element stacks got annoying really quick. I personally didn't care about the Dr Eggman inclusion either, and it's a small nitpick but I'm surprised they didn't include an end-of-level signpost. Overall though the set was a lot of fun to build and looks great as a display piece
I grabbed it today. Not a huge fan of sonic but green hill zone is iconic and I fondly remember that level. I think it’s cool to display that set. I also bought some Star Wars and new city sets.
That Sonic set, this is what they should have done with the Mario license. Just a game-accurate diorama with one or two gimmicks instead of this embarrassing bs they came up with. However, that massive usage of stickers is a no-go, especially considering the price range Lego moves in and their claims to be a premium producer.
Looks amazing. I do wish that there were more printed bricks (especially on Motobugs face) But i cannot wait for this to arrive so I can build the blue blur in lego
I feel like they added the 7th emerald so people wouldn’t complain about getting all the emeralds except 1 and cause it’s just cool to get all the emeralds
A very good realisation of the Sonic theme and I'm sure it will find buyers, probably older fans like myself who remember playing Sonic in 1991. However, the obvious comparison is to the current Mario theme, which leads to the question about the playability. This set could have opted for an electronic Sonic and interactive tiles, but hey seem instead to be pitched at older people who simply wish to display it. For me Lego really missed a trick with both Mario and this set by not integrating electronic technic elements and providing interactivity that way.
The Lego ideas proposal that was based on Sonic Mania was actually better and had a more accurate Robotnik figure (which I was hoping to get on the final set, even with the changes). I can understand why they went with this set design based on Sonic 1 which may have more mainstream appeal but I don’t know why they replace the proposed Robonik with this build - this one just doesn’t work IMO. Also, why so many stickers ? I like Sonic but I don’t think I’ll be getting this.
Yknow, I’ve been pretty harsh on this set just because eggman’s head is a downgrade from the original design. I’m personally fine with the swap from mania to classic, even if it meant losing the sweat eggman robot. Besides, his head can be easily modified. I might consider picking up the set since everything else is pretty cool
I’d like to see a Lego Final fantasy 7 set. A cloud, Barrett, Tifa, Aerith, Sephiroth minifigure. With clouds hardy daytona and a shinra soldier. The set would be the air buster boss fight.
I want this to grow as big as LEGO Minecraft, (Which, might I add, is one of my favorite lines), I want it to have its own line. Who knows? Maybe it’ll happen! Fingers crossed 🤞
People always talk about price per piece, but often fail to mention 30% of it is 1x1 plates or studs, or obscure bespoke wing/curve pieces which you'd be tried to actually use anywhere else in a MOC. It's nice to see if pointed out here. Sure it's great value at X number of blocks, but if 30% of them are just common, or unusable, or tiny filler ones, is it really a great deal?

It's the very first thing most people think of when they hear Sonic, which is why I think the Sonic Mania aspect of the original Ideas concept was dropped. Maybe not every gamer has heard of Sonic Mania, but they HAVE heard of Green Hill Zone.
Speaking of overplayed zones you can mark my words as some internet rando right now that if LEGO continues these Sonic dioramas the next one will be Chemical Plant Zone
@@murmeliwalan They’re gonna do the same themes as Generations since that’s all they do now
@@Terminal_Apotos sky sanctuary wouldn't be too bad BUT PLEASE NOT CHEMICAL PLANT!
Man, this looks super. I’ll be honest, way better than the fan submission. As others have said, which the Mario sets would’ve been in this style. Wasn’t really planning on getting this set, but now I’ve seen it, I think I’ll have to get
Now that I see sonic having its own set, I wonder if kirby could have one too! It would be cool having more sests like the sonic one tho
I Sure hope they add a Marble zone set with a Tails figure next! That would be cool!!
Also another thing, the back of the instructions shows Eggman stomping on the word “end” which I think (?) is a reference to the mobile version of Sonic 2
This set is really nice, I love of the whole terrain is built, sonic looks good, the only con I see here is a Eggman.
I love the set redesign for the set but the only thing I dislike about it is eggman’s head and no death egg robot
I hope this sold well enough to get more sets. This was super fun to build and I even got a second one so I could freestyle some geometry to add onto it.
They really could have used the new 1x1x2/3 bricks for this set.
He mentioned lego dimensions yess also yeah it looks a lot different than the og lego sonic came in lego dimensions😄😄
I really hope Lego makes more sets based on video games, though I know licensing can be a bitch. Sets based on stuff like Zelda, Metroid, or even Banjo would be an instant purchase for me.
I've been imagining Nintendo based sets for 20 years! Don't like how they've approached Mario though.
The set is easily my favorite Lego set of all time. My only real disappointment is Dr Robotnik's head. It really does not look too good in my opinion.
Yes his arms are the correct color!
Now that they've done this, it's hard to imagine Lego not doing SMB 1-1.
There's the NES set with the scrolling 1-1 style level, that's pretty cool.
I love Sonic the Hedgehog!!! 🤓 this one is so cute!!
I really hope LEGO adventure time becomes a thing! I’ve always wanted that
I grabbed it today. Not a huge fan of sonic but green hill zone is iconic and I fondly remember that level. I think it’s cool to display that set. I also bought some Star Wars and new city sets.
The way the loop checkers were built with stickers just baffles me.
Tiago: Sonic the Edgehog
Shadow: no that would be me
Now I know that this set is official! I might get this set as I loved the movie and the video game!
That Sonic set, this is what they should have done with the Mario license. Just a game-accurate diorama with one or two gimmicks instead of this embarrassing bs they came up with. However, that massive usage of stickers is a no-go, especially considering the price range Lego moves in and their claims to be a premium producer.
In the store next to my home the mario sets do not sell while they are sold half of their base price
Looks amazing. I do wish that there were more printed bricks (especially on Motobugs face) But i cannot wait for this to arrive so I can build the blue blur in lego
Lego mixed with sonic and monopoly would be neat
Picked it up at midnight on the 31st, just finished my tumbler.
Nice Sonic Amazing!
I feel like they added the 7th emerald so people wouldn’t complain about getting all the emeralds except 1 and cause it’s just cool to get all the emeralds
there's even two usable spare parts to connect sonic to the top of the loop
I'm basically going to order this for the figures and eggmobile, but the set will make a great display.
Absolutely amazing set and a good price 😍👍
The thing that sonic 1 have 6 chaos emeralds was because Eggman doesn’t have them all, just six and sonic grab the 6 emeralds that Eggman have
Brilliant love this. Love that Nintendo tried something different for Mario but this is what I really wanted
The pins are there because you can customize the order of the loop the bridge ect.
I just got the lego sonic set today. And you do such a great job on your lego reviews
Idea for the next sonic lego set, the mean bean machine from act two
I’d like to see a Lego Final fantasy 7 set.
Fingers crossed 🤞
a shadow minfig would be awesome
People always talk about price per piece, but often fail to mention 30% of it is 1x1 plates or studs, or obscure bespoke wing/curve pieces which you'd be tried to actually use anywhere else in a MOC. It's nice to see if pointed out here. Sure it's great value at X number of blocks, but if 30% of them are just common, or unusable, or tiny filler ones, is it really a great deal?
It’s cheaper than I would’ve guessed. It looks like a nice display piece.
A much younger me would have loved this.
Your reviews are fantastic, thank you! ☺
I'm thinking they will do more zones possibly a chemical plant zone with tails and maybe angel island with knuckles
Going to buy this after your watching your review
Love the review!
