@@SillyCat01 I know this is one year old, but I just want you to know: Copying this under every comment makes you seem like an annoying loser, especially since LEGO was aware of this.
I wasn't really convinced until I saw all the little hidden things in the castle and the hidden Bowser. Now I'll probably get it and maybe try to design a few micro-stages of my own. I've already got a few ideas for Whomp's Fortress, Big Boo's Haunt, and Rainbow Ride!
Did you get to it in the end? I'm getting the cube this week, but curious to see what other courses would look like. An even bigger challenge would be reusing the same pieces! :)
Even cooler it is a typo. It was suppose to be an explamation mark for the winged cap. There is no question mark in mario 64. Lego messed up. Lmao. Very few exist unopened. Tbis thing is going to be worth a lot of money. So funny...
@@SillyCat01 They chose the ?-Block, because it's the most recognizable block in the whole Super Mario franchise. Sure, it's not an !-Block, but to be honest a ?-Block fits it better.
I really like the detail that the question mark itself has studs showing, instead of having plates on it. Accents it well and shows that it’s a lego model
Love that the scannable tile represents the stained glass mural on the floor. In the game, when you unlock the wing cap you stand on that mural and look up to enter the first flying course. Love that detail with the printed piece!
I could see them doing expansions with the other worlds as small sets if they think the concept is worth it. something like being able to adapt the individual worlds to either stand out on their own or integrate them into the hinged side panels where Bob-omb Battlefield and Cool Cool Mountain stick out. I don't think it would be possible to change out Lethal Lava Land since it looks pretty well integrated into the box itself, but being able to set two of the worlds out like that could be interesting regardless. could even come with a 1x1 tile painting of the world to swap out inside the castle itself as well. I do have to say, the slide being inside Cool Cool Mountain is a pleasant treat - I didn't think they'd go for detail like that. that and the way Bowser is integrated was also well done. I wouldn't say those parts alone would get people interested in buying the set based on what else was shown off, but it's certainly not a bad thing to have either. Probably gonna pick this up when I get some money in from work. Great review.
I'm thinking of trying to build a Big Boo's Haunt behind the castle somehow since it's in the garden in the game, and maybe try to put a Rainbow Ride above. Either that or try to use the back panel for some extra building space.
I wonder if anyone could mod this to look like an actual Mario 64 exclamation block. Would be so cool if they released this as a series, using block designs along with mini level designs for each game, but they really dropped the ball making it a regular Super Mario Bros. block, especially considering how much attention to detail is put into the rest of this set.
There was no question block in mario 64. It was suppose to be an explanation mark for the winged cap. This is so funny. Lego did a huge typo. I heard nintendo is pissed off.
@@SillyCat01 It wasn't a mistake, I believe in the instructions they mention that despite the lack of a question block in Mario 64, they used the design anyway because it's so iconic
I recently got back into Lego from this set alone, enjoyed every minute building the block under two days. Yoshi being behind the castle is what pushed me to get this set, the designers put an insane amount of detail here and I hope to see more Nintendo and Lego sets in the future. Pokemon is a money printing idea.
I can see them creating a series like this with different designs for the blocks, each one with different world dioramas because there's both a lot of different blocks in the series as well as locales, though considering what I'm seeing, Super Mario 64 lends itself the best to this due to the nature of the self-contained levels, with the only other real comparable ones coming from Galaxy and _maybe_ Sunshine. Hell, cashing on this one, they can easily create 4 more Super Mario 64 ones based on the different colored ! Blocks from the game.
Fun fact, you're wrong. Mario is one brick too high to fit. 2:11 Mario is 4 high, the castle entrance is 3.5 high at the front of the slope and on 3 high at the back.
The first thought I have is could you modify it to have an '!' on the sides instead of a '?' as Mario 64 used '!' 3D boxes. Would you only need a few more flat top yellow tiles?
Amazing set., one of my favorites. Funny story, I actually got this at Target for a price/deal meant for the Airship, which they honored since the Block didn't have a price tag on the shelf *at all*. So even though this thing is $169.99 new, I got it for a crisp $79.99. Which is absolutely insane.
Nobody is talking about this but from what it looks like, it comes with two clear lightsaber blades! What is rare because I think they were in a lego Harry Potter set once in 2007 what only came with one! Definitely gonna try and buy this
I wasn't born when this game came out but when I was 5 my dad showed me his old nintendo 64 and it was my first mario game I ever played and I think I was 8 or 9 when I finally finished the game so you best believe I'm getting this

The bottom really, really should’ve been filled out for when you hand it to a friend to show them. A display piece that is interactive encourages playing with it, not just looking at it in a fixed position and state.
I bought it assuming the bottom was filled in and was very disappointed when I noticed it wasn't. However, it seems like it may be possible to buy the yellow bricks and fill in the bottom with some slight restructuring. Probably be a lot of work actually. ARG
I can see them making more if this sells enough, there are so many iconic areas in this game, plus there’s a huge opportunity to make hat-specific versions for each and have some of those iconic areas represented for each (like Boo’s Haunt for blue, Hazy Maze for green, Rainbow Road for red, etc.) this could really take off
I wish it was massive and had more than one opening side, don't know how possible this is but imagine it had 9 scenes instead of 3 Edit, or more realistically having two opposing faces that open like this one and then a smaller popup scene on each of the four other faces
