I could see them doing expansions with the other worlds as small sets if they think the concept is worth it. something like being able to adapt the individual worlds to either stand out on their own or integrate them into the hinged side panels where Bob-omb Battlefield and Cool Cool Mountain stick out. I don't think it would be possible to change out Lethal Lava Land since it looks pretty well integrated into the box itself, but being able to set two of the worlds out like that could be interesting regardless. could even come with a 1x1 tile painting of the world to swap out inside the castle itself as well.
I do have to say, the slide being inside Cool Cool Mountain is a pleasant treat - I didn't think they'd go for detail like that. that and the way Bowser is integrated was also well done. I wouldn't say those parts alone would get people interested in buying the set based on what else was shown off, but it's certainly not a bad thing to have either. Probably gonna pick this up when I get some money in from work. Great review.

I'm thinking of trying to build a Big Boo's Haunt behind the castle somehow since it's in the garden in the game, and maybe try to put a Rainbow Ride above. Either that or try to use the back panel for some extra building space.

I wonder if anyone could mod this to look like an actual Mario 64 exclamation block. Would be so cool if they released this as a series, using block designs along with mini level designs for each game, but they really dropped the ball making it a regular Super Mario Bros. block, especially considering how much attention to detail is put into the rest of this set.

I can see them creating a series like this with different designs for the blocks, each one with different world dioramas because there's both a lot of different blocks in the series as well as locales, though considering what I'm seeing, Super Mario 64 lends itself the best to this due to the nature of the self-contained levels, with the only other real comparable ones coming from Galaxy and _maybe_ Sunshine.
Hell, cashing on this one, they can easily create 4 more Super Mario 64 ones based on the different colored ! Blocks from the game.

I just bought the NES set and finished the console portion. It was an amazing build! It's been ages since I've built a set, and the first time I've built a large scale set that doesn't have minifigures. I kept telling myself, "one more bag," and next thing I know, I have 8 open bags and a complete console. The TV portion looks even better.
As for this set, they could easily make this a series, similar to the Hogwarts House books. They could do POW blocks, brick blocks, ! blocks, etc. Each one could contain more SM64 levels, or be based on other games entirely.

Meanwhile, Lego will release Bowser as the next large Mario set, and I've been saving up for that one. I did pick up the Visit From Santa set as a Christmas decoration. At first I thought this was going to just be an bad Lego set that was just overpriced, but today I went to my friends house and he had this set, I was playing around with it and it was SICK, the way it folds is so fun and cool, and the micro Mario map and models are sick. So I just went to amazon and bought myself one. I can’t wait

I love this set so much they are pleasing both young and old fans. With mario theme though we would appreciate minifig scale sets but we can wait these sets are so cool

    Excellent review again!
We were/are still Mario addicts, and although this set is cleverly built and cute as well - even far better than I expected - it's low-ranked on the lego wish list here.
We'd rather play the game. LOL

Ahah for sure! :P However, I still quite like the look of it and it does not stop me from playing! :P

I´m not a huge fan of Mario but it´s a great set from the technical perspective. Cool part usage and I`m heavily interested in a livebuild stream. Thanks for your review!

Nintendo and Lego should keep the partnership going. I would love more of Nintendo ip in Lego form like Zelda, DK or Animal Crossing in the future :)

It looks very interesting indeed! But I would like to see Nintendo bringing more series to LEGO products, that would give a lot of variety!

While I do admire the pop up fold out element, I would've liked to see more courses from the game. I feel the "?" Block is a bit bulky and unnecessary. Like it seem like you wouldn't need a block that big for the small set. I'm still gonna get it I just wish that it had sacrificed the block in favor of more levels.
