Hey, you're playing with Schwartzy! He helped mentor me and showed me the ropes of the competitive scene! Anyways, great video. I really liked how you explained things.
+LavandulaWine because jumping through the entire map to hit someone in the head with a shovel is a viable comp strat. And airshots are nearly impossible at higher leagues because people know how to dodge they will strafe mid air to avoid getting hit.
As someone who's only played pugs I find it interesting that people rarely play heavy for the reasons you've mentioned. They say he's a boring/ noob class (even though there are two classes that depend almost entirely on splash damage). Still, people tend to take for granted that the heavy is the core of any team he's on so it's a pity that he doesn't get the same respect as a class What buff or items would you want to see added to the heavy? Is there a way we can make his playstyle more mechanically involved without gimping his role?
+stalemittens I know you didn't ask me, but I'd like your opinion on the idea of the heavy carrying a medium ammo kit instead of the sandvich. I got into so many situations where I needed ammo, but maybe I'm just a bad heavy :D I feel like going out and getting ammo from the people I've killed is way too risky as it makes me very vulnerable, but going back to get safe ammo is no option either because you just take way too long to get the ammo kit. I'd like to see that ammo box added.
Especially since there's very little reason to equip any shotgun over the sandvich, this risk of running out of ammo is detrimental to the heavy. I think the real problem is that the heavy only has one real playstyle/ loadout. The only alternative way to play him, even in pubs is to go as the fat scout which is fun mind you not nearly as effective as a sandvich minigun combo. An ammo pack is something the heavy definitely needs. He's the heavy weapons guy, not the "big gun and picnic" guy. An expert in heavy weapons should always have spare munitions either for himself or his team.
razorback for heavy would be amazing the thing Is people dont like playing heavy because hes an easy target and while other classes have items like the razorback for sniper that helps counter their weakness heavy doesnt have a razorback or something to help with snipers
Hope4Hats The Hat Collecting Hoovy The thing is, that the heavy is way harder to take out than a sniper. If you get close, you can basically use any class to take him out, but you better keep your distance from a heavy. Making him immune to one of the 2 classes that are his biggest counter would overpower the class too much imo. It could maybe come with a big health loss, but then nobody would use it.
I main heavy for these reasons (and I also get to say on of the BEST lines in the game) I love supporting but also kicking peeps in their nuts and defending our points! Or papers...who cares he also can eat god damn SANDVICHS!
From my experience playing comp, I'd call heavy the hardest class (jokingly) because once you get into higher leagues it stops becoming this balancing of playstyles and more of a "Respect the sightline and deny the bomb/spy" simulator
"The pyro can't really do the demo's job because of the short range of the shotgun and flamethrower, and because most pyros run degreaser, they're not putting out a lot of damage" While I admit this is a valid point, I'd like to point out one weapon that has earned me many a high DPM in scrims, matches, pugs & lobbies: The Flare Gun ᕦ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)ᕤ While defending, spychecking & reflecting are all key to playing pyro, pyro CAN be used on flank, especially with flare. Sure, demoman has splash damage, which causes him to dish out loads of... Well, damage. But the pyro can also dish out damage to everyone via burn damage, but this isn't really important. One thing I've found the pyro class excels at in competitive environments, along with being the best bodyguard NA EU, is his ability to kill. The way my stats tend to turn out, I've noticed I don't get an extremely high DPM most of the time. It tends to be 150-200, but my frags and assists are through the roof. Reason being is I can light everyone on fire, single someone out with flare, and kill them instantly, then back off. tl;dr Use flare gun, get kills. For damage, demo > pyro. For picking classes off and causing general chaos, pyro > demo.
Yeah, you're right. I guess I meant weapons that heal directly like the medigun or a health pack. Mad milk is great but you have to actually be shooting at the covered player to get healed (which usually puts you in danger), so it's a two-step thing and you can't really use it while you're regrouping behind cover. Definitely an underrated weapon though :P
Air shots rocket jumping being able to know what situations you can take on there is no "easiest" class it depends on what the person playing is good at
Hey man. I have watched this video years before, but now I actually tried a highlander pug as heavy for the first time. It was fun, but also challenging. Thank you for this video, it was very helpful :)
Your game sense is way better than mine, thanks for reminding me that I should review my demos, video's good, shoulda edited it better.Breaking comp heavy down: -no decent damage -gets fucked in a push -makes a push seem fatter -easy to dodge -easy to outplay -will destroy a team if in the right situation(rare) Also highlander doesn't matter so heavy is good for surprising enemies and defending lasts in 6s.
Great video. I've been getting into heavy a lot more recently and this video was very helpful. I'm kind of confused about something though; why isn't heavy used in 6v6?
Tycheee Well I know, but I'm asking why though. I'm not denying it, I'm just wondering the reasons why he isn't considered as efficient as the other classes.
ComputerDude2600 I think it's mainly to do with how 6v6 is a lot faster paced than highlander and the heavy being so much slower to get around than any regular 6s class. You can use the GRU, sure, but you'd probably find yourself getting jumped or focused and dying a lot of the time. It can work, but there just aren't a lot of situations where having a heavy would be better for your team than having any other class.
He's not used in 6v6 because: 1) he takes forever to get to the frontline, and I've seen matches end before he got there. 2) double donks, cleavers, sandmans, spy's, and snipers are all effective and common in 6v6 And finally 3) he is a huge medic abuser. Heavy relays on a medic to be healing. This means it takes more to keep him alive and screws over his teammates. Those are my teams reasons, I hope it's what you were looking for. :)
There is a thing called a Mad Milk which even though you have to deal damage that can heal, the konai heals the spy which counts, and the pyro has the powerjack which restores 25 hp, but if you're saying the whole team then the engie has a PDA which makes a dispenser. So no heavy is not the only other healing class.
I never new this but I may have been doing this without realizing it's an actual strategy. I think: "Well of course I'm gonna shoot the enemy ahead and of course I'm gonna turn around to wreck the Spies (cause I don't play HL) and of course I'm gonna feed people the sandvich."
+matthias alice Other weapons heal, but not directly. I could've explained that better in the video, yeah. What I meant is that the sandvich (and the medigun) are the only weapons that heal directly, since you can directly heal teammates by landing a sandvich toss. Mad milk, concheror, dispensers, etc. all require your teammates to heal themselves (you milk someone then your teammates have to do damage to get healed, or you put down a dispenser and your teammates heal themselves on it). So to me, the medigun and sandvich are the only real "healing" weapons, whereas the mad milk, conch, dispenser, etc are all "get healed" weapons.
+Rondego hey dude, i've got no cherry to pick with you but just since we're on the discussion of directly applied health and team benefits from that extra source, does the engineer not have a secondary heal source for his team, sure team mates have to wonder over to it, but much the same you need to be near a med to receive heals? or in your view is that not quite the same as it requires a building to make/maintain? (obviously requiring set up) + dispensers don't have legs.. -_- B^) thanks for your time `Saska.
+`Saska TF2 Pretty much. A dispenser is a lot more comparable to a regular health pack than a medic imo since it's just an object players have to move to in order to get healed. Medics not only heal faster and from further away, but they're also actual players with minds and can move around avoid danger and all that jazz. Either way, the more health sources your team has, the better.
'the sandvich is one of the only weapons that can heal the med' ever heard of a dispenser before, or mad milk (the most effective battle healing weapon in game) or possibly the conch in a pinch (not really that relevant, as med doesn't do damage). Anyway, a good me shouldn't really have to rely on his team for heals, as there are health packs around (it's like relying on the med to deal damage)
Also, I know that heavy has a sandvich. However, it has a cooldown, meaning that it is situational at best. Compare that to the dispenser, which gives COMSTANT healing and ammo, I think that the engine is actually the core of the teamm
As Rondego said himself: "Other weapons heal, but not directly. I could've explained that better in the video, yeah. What I meant is that the sandvich (and the medigun) are the only weapons that heal directly, since you can directly heal teammates by landing a sandvich toss. +Tim Trotman heavy is the core of the team because he protects the combo, but engineer just builds to heal, move people quickly, and lock down like one area
+Tim Trotman He mentions this, II focus down the same enemy that the demo is shooting, one of two things will happen: 1) they die or 2) they receive enough damage to want to back away from any incoming damage. Pay more attention bruh
Valve needs to redo the class sections like offensive defensive and support My version Offensive:Heavy, demo, soldier DefensiveHeavy, engineer, sniper Support:Pyro, medic, scout
He's in highlander and apparently he doesn't know about mad milk and has never seen a really good medic. I got the chance to meet a highlander medic a while ago he was purely offense; And damn good at it.
+Agelessreaper121 that's not the norm or even good sure he`s getting kills but the point of medic is to keep your team alive not chase scouts or spy check
how does the conch heal you? if it does then the happy camper, powerjack, warriors spirit, pretty boys pocket pistol, eyelander, half zatoichi, claidheamh mor, black box, and covenniners kunai would all be healing weapons (I'm not including reskins). Also the dalokohs bar. And engineer's dispenser. Please tell me if there are anymore.
The chocolate and steak are equipped by heavy.. So you didn't really prove anything, and plus the candy you need a kill to get the health pack and I don't think the med (or any other class) is gonna run into the middle of a battle to grab a small health pack
Just wonderering and i plan on playing highlander and demo is my main and i consider myself pretty good with him should i use him when im beginning highlander or no?
Your stickybomb launcher is your primary due to it's great damage output, your grenade launcher is more for engineer buildings and/or self defense. You should try to focus on pushes, the demo is the best uber if your medic is using kritz, the soldier could also be considered but with his only 4 shots of explosives to your 12 it seems redundant. The weapons I reccomend are full stock. (My word is not gospel am only a 6k hour heavy main with little true comp experience.)
+NeO Ginge well not really the definition of jack of all trades is he`s good at a lot of things but not a master of them when a good heavy can pretty much master all of that
What kinda hud is that? That gives you small alerts on right side? It looks like rayshud, but I've never seen it do that. BTW, nice informative video. I've never really thought of the Heavy as Support/Offensive/Defensive class.
I wish I knew how I got those snippets. I installed Rayshud with the official installer, but I don't know how to enable those pop-ups. I actually don't really use them in-game anyway since I get those cues more easily from the sound (the soldier's distant grunts or the engy's "sentry goin' up!" voicelines). I'm sure there's something on the web about it though for people who want to use it.
Nitrous Oxide I'm pretty sure that's the closed captioning. I think you can find the setting in the audio tab in the options. L4D2 has a similar thing that says things like [Tank Death!].
I understand it is an old video, but 1) At 0:28, Could have tracked that spy better. 2) Has the meta loadout for Heavy remained the same or are the unlockable weapons which make Heavy more offensive or supportive worth using? Ie The Tomislav for offence or The Natascha for support. Sandvich is run 99.9% of the time but what about the Dalokohs? As for melee, Eviction Notice for a more offensive Heavy? 3) What computer were you playing on? capped 60 fps with low texture?
I would say sniper or demo. there's always a lot to worry about and if they aren't doing their jobs properly (picking the right targets/doing good damage) it can be very costly
jvcyap2001 I'm not actually sure how I got that to be honest lol. I use Rayshud, and I guess it just came with it. I don't really use those indicators, though. I usually just rely on the sounds that different classes make when they're hurt, when building go up, etc.
Scout cannot afford the extra explosive damage, as one rocket alone is enough to severely cripple a scout. The CCane just makes the scout way weaker. Plus, the scout has to get a kill in order to get the health pack And the scouts primary job is the flank, getting in to deal chip damage and retreating, and finishing off enemy players. Bearing in mind that most of the time enemies are very close to eachother meaning getting the kill is just that much harder. Besides, the CCane really helps the scout out more than the team, as the healthpacks it produces help keep the scout going without as much need for the mad milk.
+Seth Schuler all the classes have something difficult in them, for spy that is tactics, for heavy is (like he said in the vid) knowing what to do and when to do it, for demoman it is mostly aiming and making your shots count. etc
there are different weaknesses that each class have to learn to avoid, like heavy has to position himself so he doesn't get spammed to death. something like sniper is also positioning and aim. for medic it's surfing and dodging to compensate his low health and weak weapons
Why do you remove the weapon models I know they kinda block your view but at what cost I spend money on skins because I love how the weapons look do you not like how the weapons look?
Kevin Collins Right, because you can see more when they're off. When you've played TF2 for a while, you know how the weapons behave, so you can afford to turn them off.
Breloom286 I meant it's the only weapon besides the medigun that can heal directly. Conch, milk, and dispenser let players heal themselves but don't work as well when someone needs a quick emergency heal. I probably could have said it better, but the way I see it, the medigun and the sandvich heal people, and the conch, milk, and dispenser get people healed.
It is, but it isn't. It's very simple once you have a really good instinct for the flow of the game. Until you develop that, you'll die. A lot. Heavy is not as simple as "click the things that move," you can't be caught off guard by anything.
i'll put it this way: it takes a lot more time and effort to master pyro, demo, spy, sniper, scout, sniper, etc. than it does to master heavy. you keep talking about how the heavy is useful. yes, we get it the heavy is a useful class that is arguably op as shit simply due to his simplicity/usefulness ratio. simply put though heavy is the easiest class to play period. nice clickbait title.
What I notice a lot with competitive players that they always run out of ammo at some vital moments
I am proud to be one of the 8 heavy mains
Bruh
when he says healing item he means manually healing without them needing to do damage
Hey, you're playing with Schwartzy! He helped mentor me and showed me the ropes of the competitive scene! Anyways, great video. I really liked how you explained things.
Simply soldier is the easiest class to play. But a hard class to master :>
+LavandulaWine because jumping through the entire map to hit someone in the head with a shovel is a viable comp strat. And airshots are nearly impossible at higher leagues because people know how to dodge they will strafe mid air to avoid getting hit.
Hardest to master... Except for pyro, demo, medic, sniper and spy...
yeah buht sawja is so haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaawd becuz i haff da airshats and da rawllautz so it's haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaawrd

Wait this video is 8 years old what
"The pyro can't really do the demo's job because of the short range of the shotgun and flamethrower, and because most pyros run degreaser, they're not putting out a lot of damage"
While I admit this is a valid point, I'd like to point out one weapon that has earned me many a high DPM in scrims, matches, pugs & lobbies:
The Flare Gun
ᕦ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)ᕤ
While defending, spychecking & reflecting are all key to playing pyro, pyro CAN be used on flank, especially with flare.
You said Pug🆒
+Swook teh Shpeerow and thats why pyro is op
+Swook teh Shpeerow rip smissmass
+Swook teh Shpeerow
but the downside of the flare gun is that you just lost your 1v1 against the enemy pyro running shotgun
3:50 in; Mad Milk heals people as well.
Rondego Would a dispenser count as direct health?
RUclips Username Sure, but a dispenser takes a lot of time to build and upgrade. Sandvich is an instant on-demand medium health pack.
there is no "easiest class"
Air shots rocket jumping being able to know what situations you can take on there is no "easiest" class it depends on what the person playing is good at
Hey man. I have watched this video years before, but now I actually tried a highlander pug as heavy for the first time. It was fun, but also challenging. Thank you for this video, it was very helpful :)
Thanks for the friend about 2 months ago! I needed some of your wisdom.
-TF2 and a Half Meem
Your game sense is way better than mine, thanks for reminding me that I should review my demos, video's good, shoulda edited it better.Breaking comp heavy down:
-no decent damage
-gets fucked in a push
-makes a push seem fatter
-easy to dodge
-easy to outplay
-will destroy a team if in the right situation(rare)
Also highlander doesn't matter so heavy is good for surprising enemies and defending lasts in 6s.
+TrisT
comp heavy =
easy to outplay
sometimes sorta hard to dodge
if he has constant healing, he would be pretty good
can destroy team, usually in CQC
Congratulations for having new most viewed video. Also this was good ramble, well done.
POOTIS.
a rare breed, and a truly fascinating one - the heavy main
Great strategic thinking, I like serious commentaries. Thanks for sharing!
All 9 classes have a role to play, that's the beauty of highlander
Great video. I've been getting into heavy a lot more recently and this video was very helpful. I'm kind of confused about something though; why isn't heavy used in 6v6?
Because it's not efficient enough.
Rondego I see. Thanks for the response.
He's not used in 6v6 because:
1) he takes forever to get to the frontline, and I've seen matches end before he got there.
2) double donks, cleavers, sandmans, spy's, and snipers are all effective and common in 6v6
And finally 3) he is a huge medic abuser. Heavy relays on a medic to be healing. This means it takes more to keep him alive and screws over his teammates.
Those are my teams reasons, I hope it's what you were looking for. :)

Actually this is from the scrim, not the match. Good video though!
The candy cane will drop health when you kill an enemy with it, so you can heal.
well, there IS the black box and kuni, but those weapons are good if you find yourself in the hand of fate one time to many.
+Das Thunderbolt they are healing yourself, not teammates

I thought of that too
+Hakiki Profesyonel Katliam Patates I may have to get myself some Iron Fists, the GRU is *not* a good positioning/retreating tool.
Rontey best sandvich thrower NA
talk about healing people in highlander you should mention the dispenser.
If you played hl you would know its for ammo that slow heal is almost irrelevant
+MTG Sunstate I played hl for a bit; that slow heal can be critical.
The other weapon you may be thinking of is the mad milk, btw
and the conchorer
scout's milk and soldier concheror
'the sandvich is one of the only weapons that can heal the med' ever heard of a dispenser before, or mad milk (the most effective battle healing weapon in game) or possibly the conch in a pinch (not really that relevant, as med doesn't do damage). Heavy-formers, More than meets the eye.
If pyro excels at killing light classes, then what about the shotgun? That thing has around 500 damage per clip.
HOW do u have No viewmodel by specific weapons/classes and how u get no viewmodel in comp?
Valve needs to redo the class sections like offensive defensive and support
My version
Offensive:Heavy,demo,soldier
DefensiveHeavy,engineer,sniper
Support:Pyro,medic,scout
Where's the spy.
Also the Scout is one of the most offense-oriented classes in the game, support my ass.
power: Heavy Demo Soldier
support: Pyro Medic Engie
pick: Sniper Scout Spy
He's in highlander and apparently he doesn't know about mad milk and has never seen a really good medic. I got the chance to meet a highlander medic a while ago he was purely offense; And damn good at it.

The Conch charge/horn gives all players near you the life leaching effect shared with the mad milk.
+Treshell Scrub Really? I thought it was a speed boost. I know it heals you passively, but that isn't healing teammates
Candy cane for scout can heal as well as the chocolate bar and steak
Using the candy cane in highlander is a bad decision
The chocolate and steak are equipped by heavy.. So you didn't really prove anything, and plus the candy you need a kill to get the health pack and I don't think the med (or any other class) is gonna run into the middle of a battle to grab a small health pack
Candy cane is bad in comp and the other 2 are heavy weapons that are worse than sandvich
the candy cane drops health pack that can heal you team
and enemies
+Turbo Snail using candy cane in highlander is horrible idea
It's highlander, it's all difficult, no?
What about when you're going sicko mode as heavy?
Just wonderering and i plan on playing highlander and demo is my main and i consider myself pretty good with him should i use him when im beginning highlander or no?

The weapons I reccomend are full stock. (My word is not gospel am only a 6k hour heavy main with little true comp experience.)
so what you are saying is heavy is the jack of all trades in highlander
Thanks for the quick reply. I was just curious because I've never seen notifications like that on a hud.
Nitrous Oxide I'm pretty sure that's the closed captioning. I think you can find the setting in the audio tab in the options. L4D2 has a similar thing that says things like [Tank Death!].
engener can heal with window breaker
I understand it is an old video, but
1) At 0:28, Could have tracked that spy better.
Nice videos man, subbed.
why do people always say medic never gets kills i knife and get a shit ton
ManlyMan sorry boss i saw them to death
+paintballguyrocks you dotn do combat medic in highlander 99% of the time
Rondego, who do you think the hardest class is?
I would say sniper or demo. there's always a lot to worry about and if they aren't doing their jobs properly (picking the right targets/doing good damage) it can be very costly
concheror heals peps as well
The conch only heals when you attack, which you shouldn't so unless it's a suicide play, which nine of the combo members should do.
How do you put that indicator which tells what class you hit?
jvcyap2001 I'm not actually sure how I got that to be honest lol. I use Rayshud, and I guess it just came with it. I don't really use those indicators, though. I usually just rely on the sounds that different classes make when they're hurt, when building go up, etc.
Aww, I wasn't in this scrim :( I was only watching to see my soldier plays...........
Dispenser?
Slow heal, non mobile,
Awsome video
Contch and mad milk
You say that hoovy is a important class... okay. But I still don't think he's hard 2play.
You're playing with T.F.H.K? The guy who did the taunt killing video?
TheUKNutter That's him, yeah
Lucky you, if only I could play with you as medic
4:10
What about the candy cane?
Scout cannot afford the extra explosive damage, as one rocket alone is enough to severely cripple a scout. The CCane just makes the scout way weaker. Plus, the scout has to get a kill in order to get the health pack And the scouts primary job is the flank, getting in to deal chip damage and retreating, and finishing off enemy players. Bearing in mind that most of the time enemies are very close to eachother meaning getting the kill is just that much harder.
Besides, the CCane really helps the scout out more than the team, as the healthpacks it produces help keep the scout going without as much need for the mad milk.
+Treshell Scrub has nothing to do with scout being squishy it has to do with the fact it gives the enemy health packs too.
I am actually aware of this, but I assumed that anybody could see this, so I left it out.
Obv not either Heavy or Spy is the hardest
+Seth Schuler all the classes have something difficult in them, for spy that is tactics, for heavy is (like he said in the vid) knowing what to do and when to do it, for demoman it is mostly aiming and making your shots count. etc
there are different weaknesses that each class have to learn to avoid, like heavy has to position himself so he doesn't get spammed to death. something like sniper is also positioning and aim. for medic it's surfing and dodging to compensate his low health and weak weapons
what hud is this
Why do you remove the weapon models I know they kinda block your view but at what cost I spend money on skins because I love how the weapons look do you not like how the weapons look?
Kevin Collins Right, because you can see more when they're off. When you've played TF2 for a while, you know how the weapons behave, so you can afford to turn them off.
Ok thanks
Kevin Collins I think you don't really care about how your pretty your weapon is, when you are playing on highlander/6 v 6/competitive tf2
The only easy class in tf2 is pyro
How do you get that info on the right?
The stuff that says (class) hurt
Closed captions
the Concheror can heal
Breloom286 also milk
Also engie
***** ShinxBOOM247 He was talking about non-medic and non-engie sources
Breloom286 I meant it's the only weapon besides the medigun that can heal directly. Conch, milk, and dispenser let players heal themselves but don't work as well when someone needs a quick emergency heal. I probably could have said it better, but the way I see it, the medigun and the sandvich heal people, and the conch, milk, and dispenser get people healed.
Rondego that makes sence.kinda
What captions do you use?
ofc
what hud are you using
great video! keep it up
Milk can heal
no it can't
What HUD is this?
What hud you use?
Not if there is a good sniper lol
What division are you in?
I think Silver
Dalokahs can heal
+Allen Bouck Still heavy
It is, but it isn't. It's very simple once you have a really good instinct for the flow of the game. Until you develop that, you'll die. A lot. Heavy is not as simple as "click the things that move," you can't be caught off guard by anything.
Despinser
The Dispenser as far as I'm aware is used more for ammo than health.
Not sure as my knowledge on comp is limited.
+Treshell Scrub
it's also good for health if your medic is down or bust with someone else.
#Freezuero
Heavy is the eaysest class period aim and hold down the trigger when an enemy is in shooting rang thats it
Do you even grammar?
Scout does the same thing kek f2p spotted
My reaction to the video: -_-
+WalkerKombat why exactly?
+Burny (Happy's Edits) crap I haven't watched this video in a long time. I forgot :/
+Burny (Happy's Edits) it was either the ranking or the thumbnail
No, Pyro is. It takes no skill.
deeOXide You clearly have only played on pubs.
i'll put it this way: it takes a lot more time and effort to master pyro, demo, spy, sniper, scout, sniper, etc. than it does to master heavy. you keep talking about how the heavy is useful. yes, we get it the heavy is a useful class that is arguably op as shit simply due to his simplicity/usefulness ratio. simply put though heavy is the easiest class to play period. nice clickbait title.
I say sniper is easy since he got to learn to aim for heads, easy to master
Master pyro?! M1+W!! Deal woth it
