Awww.... we don't have vegetable shortening at my local supermarket. According to google, I can use copha (hydrogenised coconut oil) instead, but it needs to be melted.
You wouldn't want it to be melted or the frosting will be runny, and you want the frosting to be fluffy. If you can't get your hands on vegetable shortening, I would use all vegan butter. You may need to omit the non-dairy milk, and keep everything cold so it doesn't get melty. Enjoy!

Dear sam, I have a very picky toddler who absolutely refuses to eat meat/veggies but only a few selection of fruits. Do you have a blackbean chocolate cake recipe or similar ones where I can hide veggies or beans? She likes strawberries/bananas/apples/pbj. She doesn't like smoothies or yogurt. Yes, but coconut oil melts very easily where as vegetable shortening is stable at room temperature. So if you try that, make sure to keep the frosting and cake in a cool location so it doesn't melt. Enjoy!

I know that the vinegar and bicarb react but I still don’t see the need for it? Also I think it will come through and personally I don’t want my cake to taste like vinegar? So I’m just wondering if you’ve ever left it out or used a substitute?

Grams are a weight measurement and cups and spoons are a volume measurement so there is no easy conversion. I know a lot of my fans from the UK have picked up a set of US measuring cups and spoons so it's easy to make my recipes (or any other Canadian and US recipe). Yep. Baking is a science and so when you adjust the recipe it will change the end result.

Nope! But I think others have in the comments on the recipe page, so you might be able to get some insight there. :)
You can substitute applesauce for all of the oil. I do it all the time and it works beautifully.
