I believe there’s way to communicate with every animal that you have as a pet dogs I have miniature horses, and cows I can communicate with each one of them they all have their own personality. They all are happy to see me dolphins are more intelligent than what we give them credit for

Fascinating story, very sad too, poor Peter. Maybe it was the times, but I think if such research went on a a decade later, I think the notion of learning from the dolphins would have had more of a chance of flying, or at least a two way street, where dolphin sounds were collected and elicited and studied for their meaning if any and dolphins were also taught to speak to us in a human language. If it were me and I were independently wealthy, I would like to research dolphin telepathy, there are many anecdotal reports of that, for all we know that might be the primary mode of dolphin communication. It seems the dolphin sounds are very powerful and not just a kind of speech, but seem to work to affect the mind and body so that the listener understands something that way. But I kind of agree with Bateson, what they were doing was a bit harebrained, if Margaret completely neglected making sure that Peter understood the meaning of the words. What was the point in teaching Peter to talk, it seems they had no plan. Perhaps because these days we well know that dogs can be taught the meaning of hundreds of words, that parrots can also be trained to use and respond to language meaningfully, Lilly's "work" in retrospect looks not much more than training Peter to do glorified party tricks, and he essentially died due to Lilly's failure of vision and his presenting his research as nothing more than teaching dolphins to talk. You could do that with parrots why dolphins? He left himself wide open to the attack, I'm rather shocked by his stupidity actually, I had always thought of him as an enlightened researcher of conciousness and from this presentation he comes off as woefully shallow, unthoughtful and self indulgent. Perhaps there is much more to the story, and there really does seem to be an element in the US power structure that does not want us to know about dolphins and there was, if I recall correctly, much alarm about Lilly's findings and his books were censored and it seems he was shut down before he got started really. Even today in the United States it is illegal to interact or get close to dolphins in the wild. So, perhaps much of the details of Lilly's story has been suppressed. Its interesting that Carl Sagan seems important in shutting Lilly down, Sagan who spent a lot of his energy during his lifetime covering up and poo pooing the extraterrestrial presence on earth, the same Carl Sagan who actually served on the government top secret UFO comittee along with another major debunker Donald Menzel, both of these men knew full well the existence of crashed ufos and much other ufo and government related evidence and documents which the government has just a week ago or so admitted via their spokesman on the matter Chris Mellon who announced that a ufo had indeed been disabled by the military and forced to land in Kingman, Arizona in 1953 and that the craft, wholly intact was taken into custody by the military for back engineering and other studies.. Sagan and Menzel knew about this and many other things regarding the extraterrestrial presence and gaslit the public for decades, one can only wonder what Sagan knew about dolphin intelligence and communication and one could say he also ended Peters life and Lilly's career by pushing to defund Lilly.

I had heard this story before, it usualy focuses more on the inapropraite intereactions she had with the dolphin. It seems that is all people will remember it for. To be fair it is an interesting question if we can actually comunicate with animals in some form of fashion but what Margerate did will always taint this otherwise normal story of research.
