If not FIIO than... Shanling! Am I just being simplistic, or those are the best companies in the market right now for price/performance ratio? And have different sound implementation, so you can easily choose your audio faith. More neutral and detailed, or more musical and colourful. Glad those two exist on the market.
@@TheVeganVicar I think Tungsten is a desktop only headphone, you need a proper setup to run them, it will probably work on the M17 but I don't think it's worth taking them on trips...
I'd be interested in the marketshare of DAPs in 2024. I can understand their performance plus compared to Smartphones however for me as an audiophile, on the go I do not care about the last HiRes bytes extra...
m just wondering if M5 Ultra is that good and I truly believe it is that good why there's only very very very extremely few reviewers on this product unlike Hiby R4 or even Cayin N3Pro I just dont get it.
I've read a few comments that claim this unit sounds quite similar to the M8. The resolution and transparency of the M8 isn't the best at this, but it's not bad either. How would you compare this dap with the M8? Also, is it as warm and rolled off in the treble as the M6 Ultra?
It indeed sounds like combining the best of M8 and M6 Ultra while providing a bit more power and oomph down low. Its tonality is identical to that of the M8 and the roll off is similar to that of the M6 Ultra. You nailed its tuning.
In your opinion - what's the best DAP in the same price range? Mainly for rock and jazz music. I thought about shanling m6 ultra but m5 seems to be good (and cheaper) option...
Hi, I didn't listen to you and bought the M23. I really hate its weightless bass and dry timbre. I will send it back. Do you think the Shanling m6 ultra would be a better choice if I want punchy bass?
Im torn between this m5 ultra and m3 ultra. There is no way i can try any of the models in my place. Is the m5u better sounding than the m3u? Which one is more musical?
I wanted this but it can only do Tidal Online. Too bad. I went with the m23 which I got for $200 more than the Shanling m5 ultra. If the third party apps are not limited I would have picked the Shanling m5 ultra due to the price difference.
@@jaroslavfricek7772 I'm very happy with my DX260, a wonderful DAP which even plays above it's 1000$ price point. It has a rather neutral sound signature, which I prefer over any colouring coming from a DAC/AMP or DAP. It's very detailed and at times so precise, that inconsistencies of bad recordings or compressed files become easier audible. Nevertheless the overall technicalities are excellent and I never had anything to complain about, but just one little thing, the side buttons are a bit too easily wrong-pressed.. that's all.
Hi bro! Is the M5Ultra suitable for listening to metal and how does it compare to the M6Ultra? Which player is better and preferable for metal? Hugging, good luck!
@@Soundnews I did three times I remember you saying R8ii more revealing but the RS8 more holographic soundstage and essentially the better dap. I’ll watch it again 😭
@@ElNINETEENTH Yep, that's correct. There's another small difference: Dynamics! R8 II is simply punchier and more dynamic and since I'm the "transient response guy" you can guess which one I like a bit more 😁

@@Soundnews Thank you for your answer! I'm watching your hiby r6 pro 2 video right now! I think if none of them appeal to me, I'll go with the fiio m15s, but I don't like the ess dac chip that much. I sold it because it has a huge noise floor. I also bought xd05 pro after your review and I was not disappointed! You are my starting point before every purchase! :)
If you ask me which beer I’ll take my response is simply yes. You want an ipa then yes. You want to drink Czech pilsners then yes. A German style wheat beer then definitely yes .
Thanks, mate! HiBy R4 video will be dropping after I return home from Munich (9-12 May - Munich High End Show). R4 is definitely as clean and resolving, it feels as fast and snappy, the transients are going wild on this one, but it isn't as organic sounding, especially in the midrange. My son loves it to death and already asks if he can use it for music listening. Loving the look of it and the sound is insanely good considering the price. I find it too cheap for what I'm getting in return.
I want one! Very descriptive review - I like your style!
Once again another awesome review! Great DAPS! Happy Easter, Sandu!
Thanks, friend. The same to you and your family!
