What a fighter! I agree with KLR after listening to Grant Begley who was a Top Gun instructor. He said, F-14 would have troubles engaging adversaries into dogfights because no one wanted to engage in a dogfight with it as soon as they had a visual ID of an F-14. In Iraq, the MIGs ran away and then would end up in zones that were being patrolled by the F-15s and F-16s.
“Up there we gotta push it… that’s our job.” It’s the way Viper says it and the way that Tom Skerritt acts that gives me chills It adds so much more depth to a relatively simple and potentially cheesy line He looks up at the sky during the pause, almost wistfully But the way his tone is so… distant, and kind of somber, you can tell he’s thinking about what exactly that means to a pilot Putting everything on the line and praying that it works out Because he brings it back to reality with the last part of the sentence, you can hear it in his voice; much more grounded and present It is their job, in the sense of how it pays the bills and also because if they don’t? At best it means their death, at worst it means the deaths of other innocent people Hats off to the writers, director, and especially Tom Skerritt Brilliance in just a few seconds

Regardless what generation. We can only strive to continue to maintain and hold the lighthouse against the foes of leadership and masculinity.
@@krypton1982 this new generation needs to learn that things won't always work out the way you want it, but keep pushing forward dont get discouraged. Bad things are going to happen to you but be tough and push thru!
Millennial BS? Which generation raised Millennials again?
Cut that generational bs out. No one talking about it here except for you whining about Millennials on a fictional story about jets.
@@garyoak317 I didn't raise mine like that! There u go just giving more excuses for them to blame their life on. A fictional movie yes but you can learn life lessons from it. It wasn't anything that couldn't actually happen in real life. Oh I forgot you live in that utopia that nothing ever goes wrong....lol
STOP RUNNING FROM YOUR PROBLEMS MAVERICK YOU CAN DO THIS!!!!!! GOOD TOUGH LOVE SCENE!!!!!!!!
F-14 The greatest fighter ever made. I am saying that based on what it accomplished in its 40 years in Kosovo, Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan. The only fighter where over 90% adversaries chickened out and ran as soon as an F-14 engaged it.
The F-15 is up to it as well. Who would want to face the Eagle?
Only a dozen or so Iraqi pilots ever actually _saw_ an F-15. By the time you know it's there, the missiles are already on their way.
KLRGT500KR i wish i had the chance to see the tomcat up close, was always my fav plane... I saw the hornet and super hornet everyday in the navy... I was an abh and damnit best job i ever and most...
God bless you sir I salute you
really 40 years.. tell me more abt F-14
Viper should have been mentioned in TG2
Damn, Maverick's dad got a raw deal!
This is my favourite part of the movie...
They should have given him a small role in top gun 2.....
When I was a kid in the UK, watching a man with a military mustache, his neat little California beach house and a welcoming wife greeting Maverick, I thought this was classic Americana.
I wish he would have had a Cameo in the sequel. Kind of like what Ice did to boost Maverick up in that one scene.
I'm sorry to bother you on a sunday sir - such respect
and to think he was the Top brass and it was him who believed in maverick when all the others wanted him out, then for him to reveal he used to fly with his dad and reveals what a hero he was when he died was a very personal touch - there wasn't a hope in hell maverick would quit after that
Ladies and gentlemen, I introduce you to Commander Mike Metcalf, codenamed "Viper." You will not find a better fighter pilot anywhere in the world.
When he steps down from the front door and turns with moustache, caravan raybans and the top gun cap he looks like a Vietnam era pilot from central casting!
Other than the flying scenes....my favorite part
The track of this scene is so Miami Vice, I love it
this was a good scene him and viper it was like a father and son moment👍
Great scene, Viper was like a Father figure here to Maverick!!
Tom Skerritt is awesome as a father figure to Maverick
This how the new top gun is gonna end with Maverick Sacrificing himself to save gooses son and the other young pilots.
Super classic movie forever...
Fantastic 80's
Awesome scene....Maverick finds out his dad was a hero!!!
I love you tom
Viper is such a cool name.
rip F14
+José Giovanny Silva Gonzlez Hey.....the F-14 are for aircraft carriers.........swing wings...........
CplHicksjr Maverick is a dangerous guy..."he makes direct shots".
José Giovanny Silva Gonzlez The best fighter plane of all time. And some of the best pilots flew them. Certainly gave the USA the edge over the Russians for the final 18 years of the Cold War. What a plane, what a legacy, what an icon of flying greatness. Amazing!

Watched new Top Gun and scene between val kilmer and Tom cruise was the best..remembered this..Rooster Bradshaw
“Up there we gotta push it… that’s our job.”
It’s the way Viper says it and the way that Tom Skerritt acts that gives me chills
It adds so much more depth to a relatively simple and potentially cheesy line
He looks up at the sky during the pause, almost wistfully
But the way his tone is so… distant, and kind of somber, you can tell he’s thinking about what exactly that means to a pilot
Putting everything on the line and praying that it works out
Because he brings it back to reality with the last part of the sentence, you can hear it in his voice; much more grounded and present
It is their job, in the sense of how it pays the bills and also because if they don’t? At best it means their death, at worst it means the deaths of other innocent people
Hats off to the writers, director, and especially Tom Skerritt
Brilliance in just a few seconds
So looking forward to Top Gun 2. I hope Hollywood doesn't mess it up
Scenes like these are why the ‘86 Top Gun takes it over the sequel.
