Me: This is why the Rebels won.
Knowing how nepotism and favoritism works in such kinds of empires, even seeing how it worked in the british empire for example, it would be common for newer guys to be given higher ranks based on who indicated them or who they're related to. Maybe the Empire here have some similar system, so even a 'new guy' could also start in the place as a higher rank as be a new person in the place.
-All this to say: I agree with you, but also want to be pedantic here because reasons.

in the officer's defence he probably forgot what all the bars mean and just straight asked cal "new recruit i take it?" and cal confirms so the isb officer is like "oh thank god i got my rank knowledge correct" he literally just didnt know which ranks mean what
The Empire loves to view its people as "easily replaceable", so it's no surprise they have zero reaction to a new face, hahaha.
- A 2nd Lt in motion outranks a Cpt who doesn't know what's going on.
If it's comparable to the actual military, when it comes to the REAL chain of command a couple bars doesn't make much of a difference, it's all about time and experience. Cal looks like he's wearing a Captain bars and seems oblivious, while the other is an Lt. Not much difference between an Lt and a Cpt.
My cal had the long windswept haircut and a full beard for this mission and I was like “cal you aren’t fooling ANYONE that you’re an officer”

3:52 that Purge Trooper interaction scene was very interesting. The cold and harsh tone, distain towards the ISB, shows immense loyalty towards the Emperor and the fact that he reports directly to Vader. He could very well be one of the 501st
The 501st consisted of clones, does he sound like Temuera Morrison to you lol

@@unoriginalhazardPurge Troopers were revealed to be Clones at one point in the marvel Vader comics. Not sure if they eventually got replaced with recruits. Would explain the voice inconsistencies.

"Embrace the darkness" is like the "ghost mode" in Ghost of Tsushima
He went full dark side for a bit there. I don’t really blame him.
Personally I think the Ghost Stance was more of a heroic moment while Cal embracing the darkness felt like a horrifying moment.

It was one of the most badass things he's done- and then it gets trumped by him casuing a MASSACRE throughout the Nova Garon Base.

I guess it’s cause Cal is relatively babyfaced (makes sense, he’s only 22 here) and the other Officer seems to be a bit older, so he’s probably wondering if it’s a case of nepotism and as such he doesn’t have time for the ‘new rookie’.
It's a captain. Commander is two red above two blue bars. Remember we look at ISB ranks here not army/navy
Regardless, feel like the 4 Blue Bars guy asking the 2 Blue Bars guy directions in an ISB facility is definitely suspicious.

@@pyxl666 Ok, but who's to say that the Emperor would kill you with a lightsaber? He's more of the electric type of dude, if you catch my meaning. Just look at The Return of the Jedi and what he was doing to Luke.
@Virgil Jianu the Emperor does not personally kill people. He sends Vader, as Vader is his enforcer. Luke Skywalker was a special case, and part of the reason for the electric torture was to punish Anakin for failing. The Emperor being Force sensitive isn't even public knowledge. Hence in Ep4, an Imperial states to Vader that he's "all that's left of that ancient religion". Nobody but a very select few people know who Palpatine truly is. As far as the Empire is concerned, Palpatine is a politically powerful normal dude with a Force user as an enforcer.
A later force echo shows Vader doing just that.
The balls on that scout trooper. One moment a whole squad has a jedi surrounded, a split second kater everyone is dead, and he still charges him being the only survivor.

Imagine if Cal could embrace the Darkside whenever he wished instead of a built up timer, but the more frequently he uses it, the further he falls, similar to KOTOR 2 corruption mechanic.
And it’s kind of the opposite of Starkiller, whereas he started out using the Dark side but comes around to the light, Cal is getting used to using the dark side to get results.

Only thing I don't like is that Cal is wearing an outfit with a higher ranking than other Officers, yet they treat him like a recruit.
Nepotism was a thing. He can still be considered a rookie and that rank being given and not earned.

Would be cool if they implemented a system where you can where that ISB outfit in free roam and imperial troopers won’t be aggressive at you like in Ghost of Tsushima
3:43 That trooper's attitude makes perfect sense when you look at where both the ISB and the Inquisition come from. The Inquisitorious are a part of Imperial Intelligence, whereas the Imperial Security Bureau are their rivals, so of course they'd hate each other. The ISB barely interact with Vader, the Inquisitors serve as his lapdogs, so it makes sense that Inquisition soldiers would hate their guts.
The ISB are a civilian intelligence branch made up of Palpatine fanboys who came in through political connections with COMPNOR, the Commission for the Preservation of the New Order, the Empire's official political party. Whereas the Inquisitors and Imperial Intelligence are strictly military personnel, from the Purge Troopers who were clone troopers, to the ex-Jedi Inquisitors. They've been footsloggers their entire lives, they got there because they were good at their jobs, and they resent having to compete with political zealots who've had it easy compared to them.
It's basically how German military personnel in WW2 would view National Socialist party bosses, or how modern-day leathernecks would view political appointees to federal offices; they see them as unworthy and incompetent, getting by only due to their political standing and posturing. The Purge Troopers and Inquisitors had to prove themselves worthy to Darth Vader while the ISB guys got by because they kissed the right boots and toadied up to the right political demagogues. Pure merit and pure politics don't mix.
Yep, inter-service rivalry did more damage to the Empire then the rebels ever did.

Yeah, this is a wider problem in star wars, as far as the story is concerned stormtroopers aren't people, they are merely mindless goons to be slaughtered, the game only treats killing this guy as bad because it considers him to be an actual person

I find it funny that cal can just slice through a bunch of real people that just happen to be armor but when it comes to people that don't wear masks and are genuinely evil he doesn't kill them

If a lower ranked person than me suddenly becomes this confident to someone he knows is higher ranked than him and is on a so called "classified mission" that even you don't know about will make you think twice and on top of that he threatens you with reporting you to your higher officer

love how much they fleshed out merrin’s character in this story. there were rumours of her being barely involved in both gameplay and cutscenes, im glad they were proven wrong.
Before the game came out, someone said she was gonna die and Cal taps into the dark side. Glad she made it out

I'm actually terrified for the third one - if they don't give these two a happy ending after everything they've been through I'm legit gonna be salty. I think it's inevitable the story will have Cal struggle with the dark side, which I get, but he's gotta come out the other side like dead-set.

Well,I wanna say the ISB uniform probably the most handsome uniform in the Star Wars.
Its a damn shame that we don't get to keep the uniform as a customization option. But maybe, like the Inquisitor suit in the first game, they may add it as a NG+ reward in the future, along with the battle grid mode and combat challenges.
This is why i think he should have a purple lightsabre as canon, like Mace Windu he walks the line inbetween the light and the dark.

I hate how he didn’t kill denvik yes he’s a Jedi but cmon now cals a survivor first Jedi second, that pos denvik is the reason his team died that’s like how in uncharted Nathan drake will gun down thousands of paid goons just tryna feed they family but the minute he is face to face with the man tryna kill him for being interested in a treasure and is the one that sent the goons to kill him he can’t bc of storyline and then once they do kill them he’s all sad and feels bad about it

12:00 I was wondering why he'd try to shoot Cal, as when an entire platoon of troops couldn't even make a dent in him, he certainly wouldn't, but then that sentence made me realize that he didn't try to stop Cal, he was trying to commit suicide by Jedi. About as honorable and painless an end as he could get at this point, at least from an Imperial's point of view.

The rank insignia indicates a captain, which is third from the bottom, ISB officer rank. So while obviously having a higher rank than stormtroopers and likely purge troopers, he's not very important. They ideally should talk him with much more respect but it's not as big of an oversight as it would be if he was a commander or a colonel.

I did not know the empire uses DC 17 blasters i thought that was just a clone gun lol My favorite star wars gun.

That's not what a gray Jedi is. In canon, anyone who tried to balance both light and dark goes insane. A gray Jedi is simply one who follows the light, but doesn't adhere to the traditional teachings of the order. Like Qui-Gon or Ahsoka.

I don't think Denvik failed here.
They destroyed Call's whole cell in the beginning. And were able to locate and destroy the entirety of Hidden Path and two Jedi Masters. All thanks to Denvik's plant, Bode.
If Vader was clever he would not kill Denvik. Man clearly knew how to get results when entirety of Inquisitors (and Vader himself) failed in the first game.

High ranking officers get resistance training to the force, cal probably isn’t strong enough to overcome it yet, one of the stormtroopers mentions that in this video:)

I guess he's a familiar and killing someone familiar is a bit of a taboo.
It's not about who he's killing. It's that he was raging which would have put him further into the dark side enough to completely lose himself, which is why Merrin felt the need to intervene. Random troopers wouldn't bring that darkest side of him, only someone who caused everything, aka Denvik.
