      What this movie needed was a longer runtime, more multiverse (like in the final act and middle act), more connections to WandaVision that would clear up plot holes from the show (cause let’s face it, this is Wandas movie too), less comedy or lazy writing lines and more intelligent lines and JUST A LITTLE MORE CAMEOS!

    Multiverse of Madness definitely stepped up the cinematography. The camera movements and stylized feel Sam Raimi brought to it was unlike any other Marvel movie. I feel it was mainly brought down by the story. I think this would’ve been a great opportunity to explore more multiverses with the same and different actors playing versions of the same role. They are probably just saving that for future movies ig. I’ve been looking forward to this movie, after loving the Loki series last year. And felt kinda disappointed leaving the theater with cliffhangers without context and the base storyline that left me wanting so much more from the “Multiverse of Madness” title.

    For real, Raimi did bring a fresh coat of paint to the MCU. Storywise, I think the film was ultimately grounded. The name ‘Multiverse of Madness’ should suggest something big and a dive into this mega complex story. Yet, not being that, it does give time and space for exploring these characters’ journey, which I believe is what Marvel Studios should be focusing on. I mean, given Wanda’s tragic story and Stephen having his fair share of burden, it is quite a lot and enough to make a more compelling and emotional script. Sure, it does have some of this but they should’ve gone farther. In my mind, I was replaying how great it would be for Wanda clashing with one specific character.

    Sam Raimi initially didn't want to direct any future superhero films, having lost faith in himself due to the critical and audience backlash he received from Spider-Man 3 (2007) due to studio interference from Sony. However, getting the call from his agent about this film encouraged him to try again, as he had thoroughly enjoyed the first Doctor Strange film (as well as the character himself) and wanted to see if he could live up to the challenge of meeting the audience's expectations once again.

    one could easily notice sam raimi's gore style in this movie when 1. he popped out the giant's eye from the socket 2. Wanda walking like a zombie under tunnel 3. Stephan strange's dead version turns alive while dreamwalking. these were just obvious rami's styles. i bet he must've ejoyed every bit of making it in MCU

    You speaking facts. I gave it a 9/10. Honestly I am just a huge comic book nerd and this is by far one of the most comic booky movies ever. The tone shifts, that music fight, camerawork, all just feel right out of a comic strip along with like you said how unique it is from any other mcu movie. I personally didn’t have any serious problems in the plot that would hurt my rating of it, I would just say the only thing that ruined it for me is that America Chavez was a little corny in some scene like the what’s up thing at the end her sudden ability to use her powers. But everything else I loved personally

    I have such mixed feelings about this movie. It was pretty different visually and stylistically from any other Marvel film, but it felt pretty disjointed as well. I left the theater asking "why" about a lot of things, but not the kind of why that I actually want an answer to, if that makes sense; just confusion. Felt like it had potential to be far more than it was and the trailers leading up were pretty misleading. Frankly, I think the plot went to many places without properly exploring all of them, which is also odd considering how much empty space there seemed to be in a lot of parts of the film.
    Overall though, this confirmed something of a fear of mine: "The Batman" has had a significant impact on how I view superhero setpieces now. Atmosphere can have such a huge impact on a film and, for all of Raimi's stylistic flair that he clearly tried to engage with this movie, the hand of the Disney/Marvel machine was still quite present. It's getting harder for me to ignore rushed CGI/green-screen work as these continue, especially as one who works in post-production, and I'm left wondering if Marvel can really keep up this pace of output without irreparably damaging the storytelling that keeps an audience interested. My excitement for the future of Marvel is just significantly lower now.

      CGI/green screens are a big part of all Sam Raimi's blockbuster movies. Rewatch his spiderman films and you'll see how much CGI are actually in those movies. This movie is not an exception.

    • @ErrickJackson
      @ErrickJackson 2 года назад +3

      @@abbeyBominable123 I don't have a problem with CGI or green screen. In fact, I'm very against the denigration of CGI work that's become popular in film discussion circles lately. My problem, as I mentioned in the original comment, is the seemingly rushed and consequently sub-par VFX work in the film that's become more apparent specifically with Marvel productions due to the way they keep crunching the timelines for finishing. My criticism is largely one of Marvel release timelines, not Raimi or the VFX industry at large.
      CGI is a net good for filmmaking and I'm not into the hyper-worship of practical effects as a somehow "superior" form of VFX. I just think it was poorly done in this film and has been lackluster for some time with a number of Marvel films. I blame the studio for that.

  • @robertjacques4117
    @robertjacques4117 Год назад

    I actually agree with you with pretty much everything you said, Sam Ramis finger prints are all over this film and I loved it, its definitely one of the best if not the best looking films in the MCU, I dont understand how some people conplained about the horror, seriously if people think that is too much then they dont know what horror films are, not trying to be mean to anyone but seriously, shocking for MCU yes but not in all of cinema, also I think even the music recieved a major step up thanks to Danny Elfman, the score was great and memorable and I loved the fighting with the music notes, it was an example of creative people allowed to be creative, well for the most part but then they have to check all of the MCU boxes, kinda sucks that it has to be that way
    I even agree with the points of the Russos visual style, it can be flat and dull sometimes, it kind of sucks to say that because some of their films had some of the most intriguing plots and action in the MCU especially with their Captain America films, I will say the visual style on those didn't suffer as much as their Avengers films especially since their Captain America films had a lot more real practical action while Avengers became way too CGI heavy, some earlier films did show signs of that style like Thor 2 and even the first Avengers but it became more amplified as it went along, there where some shining peacons in the dark though with films like Guardians of the galaxy 2 and Avengers age of ultron, while the cinematography was rather standard I just loved the color grading on those films so much more
    Here's to hoping that they allow directors to have more freedom and style for years to come.....and give composers time to make better music scores too and not let it be drowned out with all of the action

    I do agree with your points but it is all about the expectations and moments. A majority of the fans who watch these movies enter the theatres to experience the moments that they never thought they would be able to see on a big screen. That is one of the reasons that the generic formulaic MCU movies work better than some others. Although I love movies like Batman, which actually made me feel like I was in Gotham, I still think it is okay for MCU to do what they are doing with some experimenting here and there.

    Like when the demons were attacking Christine and the cam was up in her face. That felt cringey.
    Certain shots felt very 90s too which is what I mean by old. Which makes sense since it's Raimi but I had hoped he'd upped his visual game over the years.

    I felt like MoM weren't the only think like this in term of visuall, but Phase 4 in generall.
    What i mean by that, was i can't denied when its come to visuall, the MCU had been went downhill since phase 3 begin, you can see how different the quality of visuall in their movie from Phase 1 and 2 with how they look in Phase 3 (with fiew minor exception like Doctor Strange, GOTG 2, Thor Ragnarok, and Avengers Infinity War & Endgame)
    But with Phase 4 they kinda fix this issue by giving most of their movie a bit distinct style in their background
    For example, Wandavision had diffrent kind of color pallete in each eps that gave us sitcom feeled to it, FATWS and Black Widow had a more darker color pallete due to its darker and edgier tone, Loki was basically almost the same levell as GOTG in term of visuall, The background from Shang-Chi (especially when we get to Ta-Lo),Hawkeye color pallete were colorfull fit perfectly to captured the christmast feeled to it, and of course Eternall and MoM
    But, this is just my opinion thought

    definately agree with your take on it in terms of HOW the movie was shot, but the why was still leaving a bit to be desired. Honestly, I think this would have been the movie to introduce Kang or at least some Variant of him with the illuminati, like you could of had Iron Lad in there with Johnathan Majors and he could have played that version, in fact you could have even made a reference to the multiversal war through him and given us a glimpse of what happened.
