Super helpful and right to the point with the most important information. Helpful to know I can save my soda ash wash/soak in a sealed container. My son, age 10, has started making and selling his creations.
This is exactly what I wanted to know, and nothing more - KUDOS - I got everything I was looking for Thank you Corky, you'e the only ice dye I like and your instructions are so clear - Thank You!
That’s quite a compliment to get, so thank you for taking the time to leave it!! I can’t promise that all my videos will be so succinct. I’m getting more rambly these days. 😆 but this is a good reminder for topical videos, to stay on track to deliver the deets. 😎
Don't buy it! Make it! It's real easy and much much cheaper! Take baking soda and bake it in your oven for one hour at 200° let cool and bam, soda ash!
Thank you! I’m making my own and was wondering if it would “go bad”/lose its effectiveness if I recycled it. Appreciate the info and I love your tie dye set up.
I'll say this I've used the Arm and Hammer Super washing soda and I felt less impressed with results compared to Dharma soda ash which has never let me down!
Hello, I'm new to dyeing and still learning by reading and watching a lot of RUclips tutorials. I want to ask. Do you wring out or spin and soak it in dye directly or do you sun dry it first? Do you mordant it with with either alum or soy milk first or do this fixation with soda ash solution first? I assume you need to skip this if you dye with pH sensitive dye like with black bean and vinegar solution. Is that right? Thank you.
Since salt is for natural fiber and vinegar is for not natural fiber, should I use both since I want to dye NEW white bedsheets in which the material is 60% cotton and 40% polyester?!
You can. The issue is that once you mix soda ash into dye it will only be good for hours. If you're planning on using your dye right away that doesn't matter. If you don't mix soda ash into it the dye will be good for days and then slowly lose effectiveness.
It's very easy to make soda ash yourself. Sodium bicarbonate is easily accessible and that's all you need. Get some and cook it in the oven for an hour at around 175c. Baking soda can also be used but keep in mind it usually has some corn starch added to it, so while it could work for this purpose, pure bicarbonate is better.
Now the only question is, how many grams is a cup 😅😅 We don't do cups here and from what I read when I tried to convert it is, it obviously depends on what powder it is, since different materials have different density. Would it be possible to weight how much your 1 cup of sodium carbonate is?
O.K. Now I have ALL the facts, and just the facts. Wish all videos were this clear, to the point. Thank you kindly.
Awww, I love your comment, thank you 😊

I’ve went this route making my own for about 2 years I didn’t realize how easy it was to make 😊
Just to be clear that's 200 c 400 f for baking soda
thank you for the video! do i need to use another fixing agent after to make sure the dye stays more vibrant?
Thank you! I’m making my own and was wondering if it would “go bad”/lose its effectiveness if I recycled it. Appreciate the info and I love your tie dye set up.
Please do you add some thing to the colour
Thank you for all of the information!!!
Not sure if you know that you can use almonhammer super washing soda laundry booster and it's The same as Soda ash
That’s what I’ve thought too
I'll say this I've used the Arm and Hammer Super washing soda and I felt less impressed with results compared to Dharma soda ash which has never let me down!
Can I use soda ash with a black garment for a reverse tie tye?? If so do I soak before adding the bleach?
Yes please a video with reds!
What if I rinsed the soda ash then tie dye? Will the dye fade when washed?
Thank dear I really want to learn how to ❤make it for myself

Please if you are doing the tie dye you need soda as and the colour
Please can you use hot water for the soda ash.if they dye the T shirt it bright what do they use please
Yes, you can use hot water to dissolve it easier. Doesn’t really matter though.
@@corkylorenz please after sucking it with it dry before dying it
@@corkylorenz please How will you no if your Dye is not quality
New fan here! Love your videos!
Will arm and hammer washing booster/laundry booster work? Is that the same thing?
I think you need to bake it in the oven to change the molecules to be correct. I haven’t done it before so I’m not sure how to say that properly. 😆
@@corkylorenzthis might be a dumb question but can I just soak my clothes in a powder detergent?
You can buy it in supermarkets as washing soda xxx
Do I have to reheat the Soda ash each time I want to make a new shirt?
Since salt is for natural fiber and vinegar is for not natural fiber, should I use both since I want to dye NEW white bedsheets in which the material is 60% cotton and 40% polyester?!
I wonder if it’s ok to use soda ash even tho I’m using the kind of tie dye that doesn’t require soda ash
Thanks for the great tips
Appreciate your comment. Hope your process comes out nice
does soda ash work as a fixative for jacquard green dyes?
Yes
Can you put soda ash I to the bottles of dye mixure? I believe I read the Tulip brand has soda ash in their dye. What's your experience?
You can. The issue is that once you mix soda ash into dye it will only be good for hours. If you're planning on using your dye right away that doesn't matter. If you don't mix soda ash into it the dye will be good for days and then slowly lose effectiveness.
Just make your own soda ash for pennies by baking Baking Soda.
Several videos on here will show you how.

I will go weigh a cup and report back 👌
Yes! Super helpful. Thank you!
Thank you :)
Great video too!
Thank you for watching!
Why don't you soak your garments befor you tie?
I don’t like touching items that have soda ash on them. Do you prefer to soak before tying? Do you see any advantages?
Why soak it already tied though?
I just wash all my shirts in Arm and Hammer Laundry Boost detergent ( soda ash ) in the washer before tie dying, same result and no presoaking 😊
Thank you for sharing❤
The cheapest way to get it is to buy baking soda and bake it in the oven for a while at 300
