    Completely get what you are saying in this video. I had a new Q5 TFSIe 50 phev, felt like a awesome traditional car with Audi quality. But something was missing and I felt like driving in the past. After 4 months Q5 ownership I shifted to a TM3 LR, completely futuristic experience. More road noise in tesla, but far better experience overall.

    I've been an Audi fan since 2001 with my first being an A6 2.7t which I still own and enjoy driving. I have recently traded in my Q7 4.2 and A6 3.0 for a MY and M3 respectively and I don't regret it. I was considering an e-tron but the range was a deal killer. If Audi becomes more competitive in the electric business (like Formula E) I may be back to the Four Rings.

    Good choice! As an owner of one of the first Model 3s in Switzerland (Feb 2019) I can confirm all you say. Also there is the Supercharger network, which got me to England and back without problem in the same time as petrol, but at a much lower cost. Regen braking is excellent too. The Audi is a conversion. The Tesla is an EV. No THE EV!

    You make very interesting points, which I can relate to very much with the Jaguar iPace which I had for almost 3 years and I am just changing to the Model 3. The only software updates I had on the Jag were to fix bugs, no enhancements like you get with the Tesla. I had the car back to the dealership on different occasions as the infotainment system failed. The Tesla charging infrastructure was a big influence in my decision too.

      Whouau, thank you very much for your feedback! In my opinion, you have to actually own the car in order to be able to give a real opinion. Superchargers are definitely a key element! Still didn’t go on a lo g trip to be able to take advantage of it

    Good review. I just took delivery last week of our second family EV, a Tesla Model Y LR. We have been driving a 2018 Ioniq (28KW) since January 2018. In choosing our 2nd EV, although increased range was certainly an important factor, it was not the only key criteria. Charging speed was also a key factor. In my part of Canada, much of the charging infrastructure is still at a max of 50KW for CCS charging. Although newer chargers are being installed, the cars themselves often can't take advantage of higher charging speeds. Although an Audi can charge up to 155KW DC fast charging, you need a charger to support that speed. The Superchargers in my area are newer V3s, so this made the decision to buy a Tesla much more compelling. Form vs Function. The various luxury EVs may win on form, but are still behind on function.

    Glad you are enjoying your M3. I've got mine since 2018 and have not looked back. The gripes you have are miniscule compared to what you get for a Tesla. It's a Tesla and with so many out there, you are still special. I know I am special.

    One thing about limited customisation on Tesla. The very positive aspect of it is that you always get the full feature set. It's limited not in a way, that the car lacks something, but rather that you get everything by default.
    Edit: of course limited colour palette and interior choice is still a thing. I would love to see that brownish interior option from the model S.

    • @WiZe1972

    • @ouethojlkjn

      There is a huge aftermarket "modding" industry built up around Model 3, you want dials in front of the steering wheel? No problem, you want adjustable angle screen? No problem, aftermarket Fog LIghts? No problem. Beefed up stereo? No problem. Power tailgate & frunk ? No problem. I agree that like my old Jaguar XF 2010 model, even the base car came with so many things as standard, there was little need to go hunting through the options list. As for colour - just get the base colour of ANY car and get it wrapped to be anything you like!

    Hey! Thanks for the great comparison. I have a Tesla Model 3 LR on order...I actually got my delivery notifcation on my Tesla App today, so I will have it around January 10th... I looks like mine is going to have the new AMD Ryzen chip for the computer and the Lithium Ion 12v battery also. I considered the Ford Mach-E, the Audi E-Tron, and Also the KIA and Polestar 2 as well because I was looking for something that looked a little different since I've seen so many Teslas driving around, but at the end of the day, They better value was still firmly on the side of Tesla.... As a fellow Swiss and fellow T3LR owner, I fully concur with you. Firstly, I am a French-speaking Swiss, and there is no bloody way I would ever own an Etron, just because of its name. Ask a Spanish-speaking person if they want to own a Mitsubishi Pajero!
    Secondly, and in perfect agreement with you, the Etron is not an EV. For heaven’s sake, it’s got a grille!!! It is a standard Audi, more or less (rather less) well converted to an EV. That it appeals to traditional Audi owners, I am ready to believe, but that is from Audi the exact wrong strategy! They are attracting no one outside their core clientele!
    I have test-driven it, and there is no bloody way I would exchange it against my Model 3, even if I was ready to spend twice as much for a car.
    Also the Etron’s interior looks more luxurious, but ends up being less comfortable. Among other point, their audio system is just a couple of leagues below that of Tesla, and their user’s interface… a piece of Etron

    • @WiZe1972
      @WiZe1972  2 года назад +1

      Je suis totalement d’accord! The car’s world is still split in two: the diehard petrol heads that would rather be ok to switch to EV but it has to have a grille, an engine noise and looks like a classic contemporary car and the forward thinking people that are ready to embrace the future 🙂

    Three minor issues
    1) The view through the rear window is poor
    2) The opening of the trunk is fairly small.

    Good review. We’re in our 3rd year with a Model 3 SR+, and with the consistent updates, it really has just got better and better…while it’s sat on the driveway. And beyond software, it comes with double wishbone suspension and other hidden qualities such as octovalve etc, which just add to its drivability.
    Car makers such as VW (Herbert Diess at least) and Ford, are beginning to see the future…and it’s the Tesla way.
    The Chinese are quietly storming along with electrification.

      @@hulkhogan9450 It depends what speed you’re going, and what the weather/driving conditions are like. We drive on the quick side, and usually charge to 80% (sometimes 90%) on long trips, giving us 20% or so at the next supercharger. We run AC etc.
      The new Standard ranges are LFP batteries with around 10% or so more kWh, and have a greater range than our 2019 version. But anyway, range isn’t an issue.
      Don’t know what the motor is, but it’s powerful and efficient.

In my current (hopefully last) gasoline car, I had to pay for a bigger screen (not needed) on my entertainment system because it was in a pack with better headlights and blind spot assist both of which I wanted. I would rather have a car with all options included or at least one with safety features non-optional (including better headlights). It is a crime to bundle safety with luxury items in my opinion.

    I agree with much of our assessment;
    I hate to sound cliche, but the Tesla is far from a traditional car company, and it shows in many ways, good and bad. I've had my Model 3 Performance (Delivered new; March 2021) for almost a year now, and I am 100% satisfied with my purchase.
    I am coming from a heavily modified Mazdaspeed 3, and I prioritize good handling more than most people. So I basically had to go with the performance for the suspension, brake, and Track Mode. No regrets there. Some will find it stiff, but it's perfect for me, coming from KWv2 Coil overs and urethane bushing mods I did to the Mazda after a while. Sporty but not ridiculously so like that was. The Long Range is best for 70% of drivers. Those who want to maximize raw efficiency and don't need the performance, range, front motor, or interior upgrades, or just plain don't want to spend the money, should just go with the SR+ model. But the Performance is for those who want a sport sedan, and a sparingly good one.
    IMHO, it's biggest performacne weaknesses are it's narrow & ultra low profile tires, along with brakes. As a daily performance car, these are all fine, as long as your careful with rough roads. But for a true maximum handling build, you want to upgrade the 235/35R20 tires to something wide, like a 265mm, and potentially go down to a wider but lower radius 19" Wheel while the tire stays the same overall radius. In fact, I may eventually do that if I decide to get wheels. But wider tires reduce range and throw more stuff on to the car. The stock are good for show and narrow for efficiency. Though they are heavy.

    • @WiZe1972
      @WiZe1972  2 года назад +1

      I almost regret not having taken the performance one! Interesting what you wrote about the wheels: I was thinking about going 20” for my summer set but I’ve seen a couple of 3 with 19” on instagram that looks really good… I may follow that way

    Had to choose between the M3LR and the E-Tron (55). I went with the e-tron cause it is more family-oriented and waaaaay more luxurios. I loved the "tesla-punch" but you get used to it and in a normal driving day you dont use this regularly. What weighs more is the miserable soundproof and the suspension of the M3. Getting older, so the softer and quieter ride in the audi is more my kind of thing.
    But both cars have something to it, glad we have the choices for whatever fits our lifestyle :)

  • @janjepsen4268
    @janjepsen4268 2 года назад +3

    There is no doubt that the Audi is a premium car with a better suspension and a better assembly quality, but they have also been on the market for decades and it must be said that the price of an Audi is more than twice as big. But I wonder if the quality will not be in top when the German production starts at the Tesla factory in Grünheide. Now there are other things I prioritize more, such as a road trip I have tried with both Tesla M3, Audi Etron and several other car manufacturers, the charging network was perfect for the Tesla no problems at all, but with Audi there were big problems on the trip, either the charging station did not work, bad app. lack of wireless connectivity and sometimes with only 50Kw charging station availability and so on. In addition, slow charging speed and frequent visits to charging stations. Moreover I do not care that Audi is a premium car I prioritize getting from A to B asap with the lowest cost. It must be said that I do not have an Audi or a Tesla electric car, I drive around in a plug in car from BMW. I can only agree with Wize that the Audi Etron is not a real electric car, drive it on a winding mountain road and you will have big problems, it is far too heavy.

    1. Tesla’s charging network has given me confidence to first buy an EV and take it on long trips.
    2. The buying process is like buying an iPad. Completely online, one price for all, transparent and honest.
    3. I purchased the FSD for 6k, it is now 10k. My car is worth more now than when I bought it.
    4. Besides a few flat tires, those 21” wheels are magnets, my car has never needed any service.
    5. It has made me rethink “driving” as I can’t wait till these cars can drive us in silence and safety.
    6. It is the first car I’ve ever thought was too quick, I rarely use sport mode.
    7. I’ve had more beautiful interiors on German and Italian cars but this car is a glimpse of the future. I think Tesla is like the first Fords or even VW bugs. The majority will offer very little in the way of luxury
    But will offer efficient, safe, and clean transportation to many.
    I envision that other companies will seek out luxury buyers and when they get their shit together maybe they will see me as their customer. I replaced a 911s and a Macan s with this performance 3.
    You miss exclusivity while I feel younger and smarter than ever being one of the cooler kids. I have a neighbor awaiting a new EQS and I think he will be in for a big surprise when he tries to fulfill his preorder. I’m so happy that dealer BS is over, I don’t know how it is in Switzerland but the dealer monopoly is on it’s final breaths.
    As long as I am untethered from legacy I will drive a more utilitarian, pragmatic, and people’s car with a smile.

      Very well said! I agree on everything except FSD that is still what I call “A glorified cruise control” especially with the strict European rules. Automatic lane change is cool but other than that, Europe makes it harder like summon that is useless over here (You need to be max 6 meters from the car).
      I’m also fed up with the dealerships and traditional ways of configuring and buying a car; the Tesla process is a fresh breath of air.
      No traditional car manufacturers have still built an EV starting from a white sheet; they’re still to much into ICE legacy. Thanks for watching 😊

    Very individual presentation, I like it. What I can't understand, that the handling of the Tesla is better, I couldn't understand, but the smaller width is a great advantage, the large turning circle is a horror. What I miss about the Tesla, comfort, all-round visibility (the Sportback is better) and quality. When it comes to range, Tesla is still far ahead. Personally, I don't get along with the operation of the Tesla is uncertain for me.

    Excellent review - Audi is a 21st Century EV trying to be a 20th Century ICE. As for fit & Finish, You Can buy TWO Model 3 AWD and an MG5 Estate EV for the price of the Audi. Is better fit and finish really worth 2.5 cars?! I was shocked at the poor range of the Audi but have seen many videos about the failing electronics and mirror issues. I get the feeling many Audi Buyers are nothing of the sort - they are incredibly good value lease rentals - and many like you will be glad to hand them back.

      Hey I know it’s a few days late but I wanted to voice my opinion and see if it helps you. Personally I test drove both the 3 and Y since when I purchased the S/X weren’t being sold so they weren’t options. I didn’t need the new space of the Y so I was open minded about both but decided going with the 3 for a few reasons. First off the suspension on the Y is really rough compared to the 3 which I thought was actually surprisingly smooth. My theory is that they just stuck the same suspension on the Y as in the 3 and didn’t really work out since it’s way bigger and heavier. Also I heard from others that they also had mechanical issues with the suspension but I never owned it so I can’t confirm or deny it from experience. And in my own subjective experience I wasn’t a fan of the looks I think the Model 3 is a very attractive car but the Y I think is bloated and weird. In my own opinion I think now with all the price hikes the Model Y just isn’t worth it it used to offer a good value now it’s the most expensive in the category and I don’t think it’s worth it.

    11:10 - "All you need is your phone, or the Tesla card" - A note from a long time owner: Always have the card on hand in case your phone has issues. However for most phone issues, just opening the phone app will solve them. That noted, if your phone is an iPhone like me, I find that Apple loves to break the Tesla app's authentication to the car. About once a year, right or shortly after an iPhone update, the app has "died" and I've needed to set up the connection again - this has happened twice while not at home. I blame Apple for that and not Tesla though. It's not happened since I got a newer iPhone though (I updated from iPhone 6s to 12 last year - held out as long as I could stand over the whole headphone jack issue).

    Interesting comparison. 1:10 I think you already know but if don't touch the handle outside when opening, Audi won't think trying to lock the car; also might need to pause momentarily for car to unlock before physically pulling.
    A 10 minute stop at Ionity helps compensate for any range difference if going on a long journey. Audi need more software updates though an ipad will give a future feel of what Tesla entertainment screen could look like, and for the rest of the interior Tesla seems to be becoming more Audi-like.
    I like Audi soft-close doors option, Audi music is more detailed because less road noise, Audi super 360 camera, Audi better auto-wipers, Audi better auto-headlights, Audi customer service such as more dealers

    Great videos Wize! I'm struggling deciding about buying an S5 or go EV. I would like a sporty and european car. Being Italian living in Switzerland I also quite often like to travel back to Italy, which means never less than 350km, or up to 1400 the couple of times every year I'm going to my partner's parents in south of Italy.
    I LOVE the Audi S5, since you had one and now moved to Tesla: what would you suggest? Can an EV really compensate the emotions of the S5 exhaust?
    Also, Tesla model 3 vs S5, are not them on two different leagues when it comes to building quality?
    Thanks and keep on with your great videos! I hope to see you soon back driving a sporty European car ;)

    The only category that should matter to anyone is the one of the Best car for me. And when you can find that best car for you for a lesser price its called a Value.

    Well analyzed, explained, and presented. If people are looking for luxury and status, the traditional OEMs will sell you great options w EV tech. If you want a sporty, handling car, great tech, nice features, and great value. The 3/Y hard to beat. When they are made in Germany, they will be cheaper with more colors and well see about suspension etc. New batteries also will make them cheaper and go further.

    Let's be honest.
    These are very very high luxury problems.
    A gap here or there, a bit of wind noise🤷🏻
    Important: safety, driving pleasure, features.
    We know from Tesla in the past that the quality was poor. But today it's top👌🏼
    Go to all other PREMIUM cars as detailed as WIZE has done only with the A-pillar or centre console and you will quickly find many things. If you search, you will find.
    Kind regards from Zurich🙋🏻‍♂️

      Totally agree! Recent German (and especially Audi) cars have seen a massive drop in terms of perceived quality and plastics used into the cabin. New Golf is the best example but also more “premium” models

    I had similar issue with B pillar trim on my Model Y. I think B pillar isn’t assembled correctly on your car. It requires quite a bit force, get a service appointment they should be able to address this in 5 mins.

    Hello Wize. Thank you so much for doing this video I watched it beginning to end. I would like to know your thoughts about the ride quality between the Audi and the Tesla. Also have you had a chance to check out the new Audi RS 3?

    • @WiZe1972
      @WiZe1972  2 года назад

      Ride is overall better on the Audi, thanks to the adjustable air suspensions. Model 3 is a bit to stiff
