    I currently have this computer as a dedicated work machine. It's a total powerhouse, with the Xeon processor and everything, but it struggles a bit with large 3D model files. The touch and pen calibration are also pretty buggy on the bottom and left sides of the screen. I pretty much have to use Photoshop in windowed mode to avoid bringing my pen over to the absolute left side, or else the cursor goes wild. Fan noise is loud, too. Being the only PC in a room full of Macbooks is audibly pretty obvious with this one. But I can confirm that the keyboard and touchpad feel great, and light to moderate processing tasks are very snappy. Texturing in Cinema 4D and Blender really makes this thing chug, though. It runs hot at all times, even when just composing emails. You won't notice this when it's sitting on a desk, however.
    I wouldn't want this computer as my personal workhorse, but as a computer provided by my job, I don't mind it.

      Contrail I do have the DreamColor display! Unfortunately, for my line of work (3D model creation for web-based video advertisements), I actually have to keep my main monitors set to sRGB, but I have used the Adobe calibration settings for one print ad, and the color accuracy was spot on. The screen is very clear, and most programs scale to the 4K display with no issues (Photoshop, After Effects, Chrome, Blender, etc). I’ve noticed that Cinema 4D refuses to upscale correctly when used only on the laptop display, but I believe that to be a fault of the program or Windows, not a support issue with the screen.
      I can’t really speak to the screen’s refresh rate, as I can’t use this computer for gaming, but I’ve noticed no lag or slowdown while drawing in photoshop (unless you consider the crazy stuttering and non-responsiveness I described above as a form of lag). The DreamColor display models also come with a pretty in-depth driver that allows you to really fine-tune your color settings, though I haven’t messed with it much.
      Hope that helps!

      You won't gain much for rendering graphics with this laptop. P2000 ( which I expect you to have in your machine) is comparable to gtx 1050 ish.
      If you want to render, maybe try using an egpu along with it?

    I own this laptop and I absolutely love it! I use it mainly for photo and video editing. I have the Dreamcolor anti-glare 4k display and it is absolutely stunning! The pen works great and the battery lasts for days even with intense editing on PS. And btw, just to clarify - mine is the P2000 version. But in order to get that I had to custom order it from HP. I bought the top-of-the-line Xeon configuration of this model. Within the first 4 weeks it failed to recognize the windows password twice, forcing me to factory reset. The third time *during* the factory reset it rebooted after downloading Windows updates and suddenly had a BIOS password applied. HP's support suggested I had setup the password myself and refused to honor the warranty on three levels of escalation. So I'm left with a $2,500 paperweight. I used to buy HP for all my employees (20+), but after the experience with this unit and the support response, I'm definitely not buying any HP notebooks ever again. Extremely disappointed.

    The P2000 option was announced back in October 2018. It took several months to actually show up on the US website as a "customizable" option, and the P2000 hasn't shown up in Canada at all.
    I've made numerous inquiries about the P2000, but HP Canada's sales is absolutely terrible. All they can do is regurgitate what is shown on HP's website. They couldn't even tell me if, let alone when, the P2000 would be available.
    Since HP does not offer customization in Canada, and the P2000 is a "customizable" option, I'm guessing the P2000 option will not be available here.

    There's only one display on the x360 that's anti-glare and as far as I can tell it's only available special order. It's the 4K Dreamcolour Anti-glare 10(8+2)bit 600nit 100% aRGB.
    An important note is that: Dreamcolour uses 25W average vs 16W average on the non-x360 Studio G5, so it'll gobble battery faster.
    There is actually room for a 7mm 2.5" third drive, if you option down to the 4 cell battery but I believe HP restricts that to Intel GPU only models. So you could have 6TB+ of storage internally.
    HP display codes:
    Doesn't mention = Glossy
    BV = Bright View = Glossy
    B-LED = Bright LED = Dreamcolour both BV/AG
    AG = Anti-Glare = Usable everywhere, Pro
    Glossy = Apple Users, Bright, Reflective, almost useless outside, distractive, needs high brightness to compensate, more eye strain, and makes bad displays look better.
    SV = Sure View = Privacy display tech, it can be either AG or BV. If it doesn't say, it's Glossy.

    • @dorabk3993
      @dorabk3993 5 лет назад +1

      Yes, there is room for a 2.5" SSD - I put one in.
      However, it's such a *pain* to deal with the dimwits at HP parts - who don't know their front from their behinds - and tell you to order the wrong parts! In any case, I managed to install one (replacing the 6 cell battery with a 4 cell (to provide space for the SSD HD)) and it seems to be working out okay so far...
      You will need extra screws (HP parts are clueless about that) and the various kits they tell you to buy have excess parts which you have to figure out goes where. Best to check the maintenance manual yourself and don't listen to the HP clueless characters...
      I can also confirm I have *both* M.2 slots working with Samsung NVME drives + the 2.5" SSD
      (I think I have the P1000 GPU, btw - the HP Support Assistant just downloaded and installed the control panel for it - but now I cannot find the software anywhere! (It's usually in the taskbar's notification area, but not showing even after installing! (Now found it in the Control Panel) HP simply sucks as compared to Dell with regard to software updates - Dell Command is awesome . (I also have the Precision 5530, but am trying to work with this HP - but I feel Dell's are much more reliable and less finicky)

    • @zmonchamp
      @zmonchamp 5 лет назад +1

      @@dorabk3993 You will likely need to download the Softpaq downloader app online. HP doesn't tend to preload it unless you get an IT admin box. The support assistant/advisor software will tell you you are 100% up to date while missing numerous updates and downloads.
      I should make a video explaining how to work the software because it's really great, very powerful with loads of options. You also have to watch there's a recovery disc maker that has a similar name.
      Don't get me started on HP. I don't know what happened but they are really acting like they are in a daze. What's worse is that I can deal with parts being daft, because the maintenance manual should be great but they are full of issues and PartSurfer is out to lunch on tons of models. So you kinda have to make do. The spec sheet conflicts are amazing to me, specs that are claimed in one area aren't in another.
      Glad the 4 cell is working out. How's the battery life now?
      I still have to wonder why the Xeon based ones never have gotten the P2000. I suspect it's because the Xeons are allowed to run much hotter than the i-series. Since one mistake in the video is the single pipe per component, when it's really both pipes are being shared by the CPU/GPU. The bad part is that the i7 gets limited to 15W if you load the GPU so it's lap temp safe.
      Also not mentioned in the video, if you get the Dreamcolour display, you lose the ability to install the LTE/GPS because the panel has the antennas removed.

    I have another, recent, 15" Windows notebook with 4K touch screen (core i7 and Radeon Vega). When I run it via a TB3 port replicator that drives an external 4K display and external audio, that takes mouse, Ethernet, keyboard inputs and a couple external 10 Gbps USB-C drives, then, even then, it starts hissing within 2 minutes of higher res video content. I had hoped these type of machines could replace a desktop machine, but they can't. Lightroom and Photoshop are relatively fast, but somewhere there are bottlenecks: cooling bottlenecks, fan noise, video power. And then we suffer from software updates that one time do video well and next time start breaking video up after a couple days not rebooting. Relative to price, I would expect more maturity. Apparently it is bells & whistles over basics, in this market segment.

    I was about to moan at how dreadful HP's UK online store was, but while unfamiliar (years since last ventured there) it's easy enough to get to a rather good configuration page. And have to note it does list P2000s for this x360 G5! Eye-watering price, but comparable to Dell or Lenovo in the workstation bracket. Didn't click buy.

      if you really want to draw you want to separately buy one of the Wacom Cintiq drawing monitors, they finally brought out a far more affordable model called the Cintiq 16, not sure of US price but its $850 AUD Student pricing in Australia and pair it with any decent laptop.

      HP ZBook X2 as mentioned: ruclips.net/video/oSbk5Lc3wGU/видео.html
      Samsung Galaxy Book: ruclips.net/video/guI5rzotiAM/видео.html
      Or the old Samsung Notebook 9 Pro: ruclips.net/video/VFT4ZM_wfLY/видео.html
      Or new Samsung Notebook 9 Pen.
      All of the above use Wacom EMR
      I believe the new Notebook 9 Pro (2019) uses Wacom AES.
      All of the HP Elitebooks that have pen support typically use Wacom AES I believe.
      So the HP business line, and ZBooks (design / workstation line?) use Wacom, while the consumer line (Spectre x360) use nTrig.
      Wacom EMR is the best for drawing. Wacom AES is a bit nicer than nTrig apparently.

    Aside from the Lenovo Yoga 730 15" (which I hope will be coming with a GTX 1650 later in the year), this is the only convertible on the market with some form of end user serviceability and the most powerful convertible. The difference between this and the 730 15" is that the 730 15" uses U series processors (it gets impressive performance out of that U series) and this uses H series processors. Also, 730 15" has one RAM slot you could upgrade yourself and one SSD. This has two RAM slots and two SSDs. But it all depends on workflow. If you absolutely don't need 6 cores, I'd suggest rolling with the quad core variant of this machine, 1080p panel and P2000 (if you could find it) as that would strike the best balance between price and performance. The 4K panel is gonna be a hit to battery life, but it still gets decent battery life for a 4K panel.

    • @lorenzobiondi5727
      @lorenzobiondi5727 5 лет назад

      The amount of colors it can display on the screen is something different from the precision with which it does; A good calibration of the monitor helps you take out the most of your color palette. (Actually, hp dreamcolor displays have a billion-color gamut, which is even wider than adobe rgb, other than the calibration she mentioned)

    Any thoughts on the FHD 1080p model? I'm looking at it here in Australia, with i9-8950HK, Quadro P2000, 64GB RAM, 1TB SSD.. and it works out slightly cheaper (around $5,100 AUD) than the non-DreamColor 4K model with the E-2186M, 32GB, 1TB SSD... I'm not really a 'content creator'. My use case is, I'm after a powerful 2-in-1 for general use, development, running VMs (homelab type stuff) etc. I'm torn between 4K and 1080p. The brightness on both seems similar, sRGB similar, AdobeRGB is around 62% on FHD, 77% for this model.. Thinking maybe I go with the 1080p display with higher spec, which should also help improve battery life -- I'll mostly be using Linux too, so wanting to avoid scaling issues. I suppose I could do some content creation on the side if I decided, or get an external 4K monitor. I can't find the ZBook in store anywhere, so not sure how the 1080p display looks compared to the 4K panel.. I haven't seen the DreamColor model available here, it appears to be a custom build option through HP, so I would have to get a quote -- and I'm guessing it will be much pricier.
