can you post a link for the windows in the shed that you used on this project?
Can you also post a link for the door?
Do you have the part number or a link to the windows? I cannot seem to find them. Thanks.
@@miyak6971 Canada only, I cannot find any in the US. www.rona.ca/en/prestofen-fixed-shed-window-15392-7931001
Where'd you get the window. I'm helping my husband build a shed. I love all your videos.
where did you get those windows so inexpensive and the size is perfect?
hey jeff, you should stop reading the comments and then beeing bothered. dont forget about the quiet hundreds of thousands who enjoy watching your really cool and helpful stuff (not commenting). there are crazy people out there. and you won't convince them of anything. greetings from germany!
This I am learning. I used to think that there were all kinds of people from one side to the other. I have found that everyone is a little crazy compare to the next person and there is no such thing as normal. Gonna just do me! Cheers to Germany!
Best part of what u do is that You have used all basic tools and built beautiful shed That’s calls a mastery !!! Heads off
Hey Jeff and team, just wanted to let yous know that your videos genuinely bring fantastic advice and entertainment to me.
Whether it's Jeff sarcastic comments or the fantastic videography that Max provides, it genuinely is TV material!
Even though I don't do much DIY, in fact the girlfriend doesn't trust me with a hammer nevermind a drill, these are so enjoyable to watch, thanks so much for the content.
Thanks a bunch.
From Ryan!
Glad to hear that you are enjoying them so much. Cheers!
I can go thru these videos like nobody's business, right to the point, noticeable expertise and a lot of tricks...The guy makes it fun! I would work for free in one of your projects, the learning experience would make it all worth it! Keep it up Jeff!
Unfortunately that is illegal. Cheers!
I’m making this shed by myself. I’m using your exact design and instructions minus the windows and door design. I’m half way through it. I’m a 120lb woman and based on your instructions so far I have been able to get by building it alone so far. (It’s not as easy as you make it look when lifting the walls alone...) I’m doing the roof today and tomorrow. I’ll need to go through your roof video once again to get the slope! Great directions so far... Thank you for this! :)
This man is a proper professional IMO as only a pro would know that old 'Put the screw in in reverse trick'. I learned it 30 years ago from a carpenter but have never seen it on UT before.
As usual, this video has lots of practical ideas that save time and money. I learn so many new approaches each time I watch a Home RenoVision DIY. I also love all the “whys” and even the “opps” that sound very familiar in my own experience. Personal note...the weather in Ottawa was perfect two weeks ago just as your predicted Jeff. Almonte had many answers to family history questions and the folks that helped us were stellar. I was complimenting an Ottawa family history center director on Canada and it’s beauty when he asked, “Ever been here in January?” No place is perfect, but the attitude we found in Québec seemed to embrace the winter months with a certain affection. Bravo!
Just as you predicted. Opps!
Hey Jeff. I'm over in Ireland and have just brought a house. It needs complete renovation and I just want to say that your videos are a godsend to me! Thank you so, so much for all of the hints and tips. Cheers
Also, don't worry yourself about the Health and Safety loudmouths
Hi Joe, and Cheers to Ireland. So Glad we can help! Let us know if you ever have a question. Cheers!
Wow !!! I have done a lot of remodel work, and I get by pretty well but anytime I come across something I don't know, I learn it from you. You my friend are a great teacher. Yours is the only channel I have ever subscribed to. Keep it up. The world needs more people like you.
Thank you very kindly. Cheers!
Thank you for your humor. You made me laugh after a tiring day. Your shows are great!!!
Thanks Jane, so glad we can give you a smile. Cheers!
I like your working attitude.
Here's a comment to go with your morning coffee: I watched your drywall series and did a level 5 in my workshop (I did add orange peel texture to hide a multitude of sins). Your detailed explanations and watching your technique gave me the confidence to take on this project. Thank you, thank you, thank you! I had assumed you were a professional mudder, but now know you're just all around awesome in everything you do! I learn something new in each video.
Thanks a lot, been working hard for the last 30 years raising 4 kids. Just thought I would give back to folks looking to DIY it. Cheers!
I watched a lot of diy shows and you are by far the best at making it easy to follow and explaining what you are doing!
Than k you, Cheers!
I am really enjoying you'r videos and instructions , I will probably build a shed much the same as this one , the roof looks
strong enough for our snow and wind. Thank you and keep up the great work.
Would love a link to those windows you used. Those are exactly what I'm looking for and cant find them any where.
This was just great! What I did because my doorway wasn't conventional was make my door from 2x1/4 wood to fit the door (if that makes sense)! I cut my plywood to 28W x 72L and a door was framed. The shed really made me think of everything you showed here and to relax as I put it together and have fun while doing it! It's 8ft x 6 1/5 front slope 8ft back end 7 1/5 with plywood roof but polyurethane cover over that to protect the roof and interior. The stuff nobody will see right. But I'm happy with it! It's my Father's Day gift to myself and it's something I'm proud of. That's it and thanks for every video that helped guide me as I fumbled through this project.👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿🎯🤟🏿🤟🏿
I know, i seen you using the circular saw off your knees and stuff but i never said anything about it because i understand you have the confidence and ability to use it that way thru your experience. You are dealing with a lot of beginners and people who parrot things they hear without actually knowing for oneself. In other words, they can use the saw however they choose, but they have no place to be telling you how to use yours, they just only parrot what they hear, they have no experience.
But yes, if they don't have the confidence and experience with the tool to use it like you do, then they shouldn't use it that way then, use it how they feel safe and confident then.
But that is one thing they might not realize, that you are showing them basic tricks and ideals for the trade, but your skill level is far beyond beginner, and with the saw especially.
Jeff, you're a national treasure. Even my wife watches you because she loves your personality. I think your audience came for the DIY videos, but stays for you. If you have any other interests or hobbies, we would watch whatever you put out in a heartbeat
Thanks a lot for that boost of confidence. Cam. We are very glad to hear you are enjoying our channel. Cheers! One day I hope to do some traveling and film our adventures. If I could just learn to use a camera!
Love the colour of the doors & would love an entire structure in that colour with & contrasting colour so it will pop..... Nice job guys!
It is on the way! Cheers!
Adorable doggy!
I think I would have done the door before the windows to avoid jostling the windows while hammering the sheathing. LOL.
I like to go overboard a bit so I probably would have put a bead of caulk on the back of the flange of the window to help hold it in tighter and create a better seal against bugs trying to creep in.
Good tip on holding the metal of the saw against things. I didn't know that. In my defense, I took my woodworking class over 25 years ago. LOL.
I'm lazy so I probably would have gone with a prehung door or built a DIY door. Where I live, we get a lot of sun & heat so black hardware would get way too hot to touch.
I like the idea of saving old blades to use as nail plates.
When I first saw you suggesting an angle for the top of the door trim I immediately thought of using the template board to get the same angle as the roof. LOL.
Sanding sponge reminds me: They made pot scrubbing sponges that look like that only in brown/black. My mother bought some & I thought they were sanding sponges & took them to the workshop & couldn't figure out why they weren't working well when I was trying to sand a table.
Putting screw in reverse to start the hole is also a cool tip I'll have to remember.
I have a latch like that on a gate. We ran a wire from the latch to the other side so people can still open it from the other side & not have to go around.
This is SO helpful! I love your ideas of marking from the front, drawing out and four corner holes from the inside, then cutting from the outside. You moved about your "box" to make it easy! Smart! Thanks for sharing!
I love how u make mistakes then correct them . Im learning so much
As a person that used to do these things for a living, I really appreciate all the videos you put up. Heck i've learned some good tips that i didnt know! Keep up the awesome job!
Thanks sooooo much. Cheers!
To heck with what those haters say Jeff, you've been doing this how many years and obviously you know what you're doing and you still have all your fingers and toes.I don't think you would show us how you do things by being reckless. You are teaching and your boys have all their limbs to so you are doing things right. The only thing lost is hair..LOL and that's maturity, you lose hair when you gain knowledge. So ignore those haters, opinions are like a**holes everybody has one and most are full of s*** most of the times. Keep up the great work, we look forward to your videos.
Thanks Gina, I would make these videos even if it was only for you. Cheers!
Nice job I like how you think
Simple cheap works
I like to call it minimalist inexpensive. Cheers!
Yes!!!! We need metric system!!!!!! Great job btw. Thanks a lot for the help
Hi Serg, more metric coming soon. Cheers!
Awesome as always, my husband just learned the trick with the square and saw and it has been a total game changer for him. He wished he'd learned it years ago.
thanks for that tip with reversing the drill to "predrill" using a screw.
Love your stuff, Jeff! Im actually building mine (8x12) in the same general fashion as this. I appreciate the help since this is my first build! I am wondering though, where can I find these windows?
Wow, great videos! Practical, functional, prudent design. I was planning to build a shed with 'lean-on' roof when I found your video. Lucky me, as I was thinking of front 9' (back 8') roof, which would have added more labour and expense. Thanks a million, Jeff! Best DIY building videos I watched.
Hi Jeff, I came across your series on building a shed and I love your way of teaching and sense of humor. You're not stiff but casual. Keep it up! I'm learning a lot and will be building my my first 3x6 lean to shed like yours with 6' front and 5' back wall. Thank you again and please keep making these very informative, casual, and funny videos!!
You guys produce the best home improvement content on the web. Top notch. Love your videos. Keep them coming. Many thanks.
Thanks John,Cheers! See you next week on Tuesday and Saturday.
Flush trim router ran against the stud, nice finish. no mess.
Jeff , I really enjoy watching your videos. Your instructions are very well defined for a beginner / novice person. Thank you for producing such instructional support.
Burt Vickers Houston Texas.
Thanks Burt, glad to help. Not everything in life requires a PHD
Another great video! At around 20:14 you asked to let you know if there is another way to cut that opening for the door. I'd use a router with a flush-trim bit. Super neat, done in a flash, and guaranteed to be flush with the stud. Of course you'll have the same problem at the bottom. For that I think I'd use a multi-tool. Appreciate that not everyone will have those tools of course.
Sounds great. In hindsight I ran into this problem because I changed my design. If i had skinned the wall to the proper dimension first. None of this would have been necessary.
Home RenoVision DIY Funnily enough, that's one of the things I like about these videos - they're real. We all change plans mid-project, and it's how you deal with it that's especially interesting :-)
Hi there I’m with you on getting on with it al day long ! With the window install I get the point of push it up the corner to lock it in place, but why not just put the frame sealant in first behind the unit flange ? For one the suction will hold it until you screw it plus it’ll give a better longer lasting seal !! Just my thoughts !!!
i just don't like to use sealants during install, you risk making a huge mess of everything. Cheers!
You're good. Nice attitude, good explanation, couldn't stop watching - I don't really need knowledge how to but that was fun! Good luck!
Thank you for the comment. Cheers!
Dangerously high levels of sarcasm. Very enjoyable. Thank you Jeff.
Perhaps a bit over the top, but I just had to do it Once. Cheers!
Amazing series. For someone that has had no one to learn from you're helping a-lot! Thanks
Glad to help in any way I can. Cheers!
I like this guy great sense of humor and he knows what he is doing, great job bud love watching your videos!👍
Try not to lock yourself in the shed until watching the next video in the series. Cheers!
Where can I buy those same windows?
That is funny I noticed it too that's a back gate latch
Instructions were so clear and concise I ended up building a 4 bedroom house
LOL, Cheers!
Richard van Pukkem That is one of the best houses I have ever seen. I have been inspired to build a tree house. Cheers!
keep sharing all your tricks, great videos
Not going anywhere. we are having too much fun. Cheers!
Big like for the videos. A question: why do you drive the screws so deeply below the wood surface? Just to save the time? Normally I drive the screws in level with the surface.
I like to pull the boards together to remove voids.
you make it look so easy!! nice looking shed, sir!!
Thanks David!
Really good vid. I've been doing my home renos and projects for 30 years and am amused by his similiar techniques and discoveries as mine when it comes to tool selection and use etc.
BUT!! I must say. Getting ones fingers that close to any spinning blade is a dance with the devil. I am also a machinist and know the value of hand safety. Hands are here and blade is over there. Be careful. Use your head first and the tool second. And yeah; I still have all ten fingers and most of my mind intact.
Hey jeff and team. Just wanted to say thanks for providing such great tutorials. Almost done with mine and did it fully from this video alone and some basic construction knowledge my dad taught me. My neighbor just finished his kite shed, and boy was he upset when he learned i paid 100 less to build mine, and man is mine superior.
I've watched a lot of your videos and I thank you for what you've taught me. To the point of us doing our own shed/garden room build. Although as a Brit, our cross over on using Imperial maths (math) and also the metric system (we still us pints, stones and MPH in a somewhat random manner). I can't help thinking that when we measure building materials and measuring for construction, that the metric system is so much better than feet and inches. Same as measuring weight for cooking and baking. Keep up the good work my friend..
Love a good pint. Cheers!
Great presentation, and your shed windows, and door both look totally awesome!
Mindbuildingsolutions approved!
Excellent video and content.
You are a really interesting dude to watch, safety should always be paramount and I'm glad you decided to take care of your eyes; as I said you only come with two and much more then dust comes from 4000 rpm's of steel meeting wood and depending on the blade it might well have carbon tips which can and do go flying. Kick back to the professional might be somewhat controllable but even they can tell you a story or two of being caught off guard with the velocity at which it can happen and injure. You can joke about safety but you have to remember you have people watching that may never have picked up a tool in their lives as I have seen in one comment below me.
Little story.. I was about 17 (1977) working with my girl friends family business in the lawn service business, I was helping, I had my drivers license two years but never drove a stick. I was working with the owners son that day(Randy); it was just us two, hedge trimmer and he used it with one hand and swung the unit and now his thumb was held on by a thread, like I said never drove stick and this truck did not have a synchromesh transmission so full stop everywhere until we made it to the hospital. They saved his digit but that was the day I learned about Safety first! The truck was bloody and I was 17! If the safety trolls are out; well they are hero's in my book; one of the good trolls. Working for Hewlett Packard I have to go through a lot of training for safety; training over and over but in the end for many it will be worth it if they listened.
Safety troll Curiosity at the ready sir. :) ..
He cut his thumb because he was being an idiot. I prefer the natural selection approach to life.
This is great. I love his attitude and I got some good ideas. Thanks.
This 6 part shed building from cement slab to total shed completion was great, I appreciated it. Question for you, have you built any backyard bar/sheds used for storage/entertainment purposes? If so what are the links for those?
Thanks Leon, not yet but we will be next year!
Love the no nonsense approach you and the team have, a breath of fresh air.
Great video content, can't wait for the next instalment.
Thanks Dave, 2 videos next week. Cheers!
Hi buddy, you did an amazing job alone. It wa a tough job. But I may suggest to put the door hinges from inside and not from outside. Coz anybody who have a driver can open it without a key.
Love the welding helmet tip. I'll definitely use it next time I need to cut some wood!
LOL, Cheers!
Ah, I was so looking forward to seeing how you installed a barn door on your shed as I'm on the cusp of building a shed under my carport and had planned to making it a barn door utilizing a cast off beefy patio door with full glazing. I have visions of creating interlocking flashing to keep out wind and pests but that may be too idealistic. It may be possible to put hinges on this door but it's massive and I don't really like the idea of it being able to swing open, possibly denting the plastic bumper of the car parked in front of it.
Your videos are well done and one point. Keep up the excellent work.
hi jeff, you have natural ability of presenting, and your funney too,can you do a tutorial on angles and make it fun,oh you have a new subscriber,ps dont be bothered by others, all they want is to provoke.
They don't bother me, rather i find it entertaining. I just wish I wouldn't get back lash for putting them in their place. Cheers!
Beautiful work
I know this is an older video. Hoping you see my question. Are there narrow windows like this that can be installed in a house between the studs so it does not loose the integrity of the wall strength. OR do they still need a header put in? I would want at least 2 side by side between studs. Three would be better. It is in a weight bearing wall. 6 inch studs on 16 inch centers. My thought is if I still have to do a header I might as well just do a wider window. Thank you!
You have been a great help to me an my project thank you
Hey jeff, enjoy your videos. Who makes those shed windows and any suggestion on where I can purchase them.
I have 20x 20 shed built the same way. But I'm having issues with panel rot around the door opening and bottom trim. Should I just repanel each side or do patch work? Also what's a better way to elimate this trapped moisture the panel and trim. I'm guessing the caulking the owner did sealed rain channels. Thanks for the great insight and amazing videos.
using the polyurethane caulking in the right positions to divert water from the walls is the key. Cheers!
glad I stumbled across you and your work!
Great serial! Greatings from Serbia! 🇷🇸☦
I like that trick you did for ripping that board without a table saw
I just saved $400.00 on a new saw! Cheers!
just ad an oscillating saw to your tool collection for those tricky cuts, great informative videos....
got one but not something I want to rely on for making videos. I dopn't expect homeowners to own all the power tools. Those who do will know when to use them.
Could you provide a link or description of the windows you used? I can't fin them in the states at the big box store. Thanks. Love the videos.
Yea I am wondering the same thing. Has anybody found them??
www.homedepot.ca/product/prestofen-shed-windows-17x35-pvc/1000146340
@@ceyhunatacan5643 YES YES YES - 17" wide with the hole at 14 3/8 wide! Perfect - Thank you Ceyhun
1:10 - around $15 bucks...? I know this was shot in 2018, but even with inflation - they're $55! (at the same Canadian outlet of the big box store he went to - and he touted he's Canadian)
I still haven’t found them in the U.S. Anyone?
Hey ,Jeff awesome video ,you are a talented man.Keep them coming.
I hope I can Work with people like you one day.
I'm a house wife & I love what you're doing
LOVE ALL YOUR U-TUBE INFORMATIVE VIDEOS , THANKS FOR SHARING YOUR KNOWLEDGE WITH US!
Thanks so much for all these videos! I've been wanting to build a shed myself for a long time but not had the confidence or the knowledge to do it. With your help I've managed to build together an awesome shed that I'm super proud of. I'd be interested to see what you would do with storage inside your shed with using all the frame work aswel inside to build from?! Be awesome if you made a video on that as that's what I'm trying to plan now, workbench, shelving etc. Cheers from the UK!
Hey Jeff great how to videos as always! Just asking for a friend, since you're using the locking gate hardware for both doors and since your stationary windows don't open, how besides kicking the door out are you getting out after both doors swing shut? You should use a piece of wire to hook the top of the latch and drill a tiny hole through the frame to the inside so you can get out.
Safety first!
In the reality Renovision episode on this project we show how we run a release cable from inside the structure. Cheers!
I see you’ve replied to many messages except the ones asking about the windows. What’s the mystery about sharing the name or link of these windows????
Jeff, Top notch work, explanation, video work. Love your vids watch them all the time, still catching up as I just found you a couple of weeks ago. Love this shed, getting ready to build a shed myself. Still gathering ideas! Love those "Cheap" windows!!
There are definitely better options but I prefer 2 cheap windows over 1 expensive one if I had to choose.
Thank you for showing handy "tricks of the trade!"
Always Glad to help. Cheers!
Great videos. Joe from Canada
Jeff, again thanks for the time saving tips and tricks. I've sheered off many a screw in my day and I could have used this advice long ago! Better late than never!
America is wild and so carpenters do too. You have done a man's job !!! Better and Cheaper is Not possible !
jeffs gives more than just the tip
Hi Jeff. I was wondering where you purchased your windows at? Thank you. Great video Mister.
Home depot. Cheers!
Hi Jeff. Great instructional stuff. Thanks
Using a speed square to help cut a line also helps keep your other hand out of the way of the blade as well.
Can you tell me where you purchased your hammer and what brand is it? Thank you much for the great videos.. If I keep watching your videos, I know with a bit of help I can build my dream shed.
It’s been a while since I’ve had a chance to watch your videos with undivided attention and WOW the production looks great! Great content as usual. Thanks!
Hey Cesar, good to hear from you again. Thanks for commenting. Cheers!
Looking good I like it.
Hello Jeff very nice videos i love them all
You are absolutely right about the "box kite" shed kit. A total waste of money. Including the cost of the kit and if she hired somebody to build it would have cost $5000! I helped my sister put hers together and it was made of mostly thin, cheap bent and warped spruce. The instructions said to nail together the rafters but all the precut angles on the warped 2 x 2 spruce rafters made making the angles meet impossible and how can you nail such a thing? We tried making a jig to hold the angles together ... didn't work. We ended up screwing everything. And all the precut angles at the gables were off .... what a disaster. What we learned is that if you can put together a kit, you can build a shed from scratch yourself and know it's made of 2x4s and stronger wood. Thanks SO much, again (I spend far too much time watching your videos as I go through my home improvement jobs) for your kind generosity sharing all this stuff ... I have learned SO much!
When is your TV show coming out? You can easily beat This Old House.
More power to you!
I like your videos... just a question what if you are inside on a windy day to get, let say the lawnmower and the wind closes your door... how do you open it with those kind of lock? Never mind I saw what you did on part 6
Great humor, and so refreshing to get away from all the pc / nanny state, safety enforcers. Earned a new sub.
The Square as a guide for the Skill Saw is totally safe... An Old, Old carpenter's trick for one-person square cuts.
So want to watch this, but than once over, it's over & "I Just Want to Watch More"!😍 This is my Favorite "build/diy" Channel on YT.....so glad it found me one day by chance; or was it🤔😱.
Thanks for the vids & hardwork....you too camera man😉
Cheers, A
Than k you, we are having a blast making these vids!
Home RenoVision DIY So appreciate taking the time to still reply to comments. Much appreciated as many channels just don't do that anymore. It's what set you apart from others & adds the special nature of your "community" you created! Thanks👍🏻👍🏻
moskalmultimedia Thanks Max for taking time to reply & comment. Pretty awesome when creators etc...actually respond to comments. Appreciate it & also wanted to add, that love the cinematography you create/produce with these vids & the other vids on your channel. Have seen all of your work & I love your style... Pretty amazing. Thanks again. Cheers, A
great videos! I am currently building my shed/workshop and I am changing my roof plans because I love your roof system. My question is this... My shed is a 12 foot x 12 foot square. can I use your system using 16 foot 2x6 to have an overhang on the front like you did? I am only doing a galvanized metal roof with no plywood so it is not a heavy load. what do you think? Can i get away with 2x4s? Why did you do the ladder overhang on the end of your roof? ws it because of the length of the 2x4? I appreciate it. super videos!
I used a ladder to translate load to the wall. yes 16' lumber will work just be sure to keep your overhang to 2' unless you brace it or post it. In the shed interior I would also put a 12 ' beam contrary to the rafters at the midpoint for extra stability. Cheers!
Thank you Jeff I like you channel. Keep doing
Cheers!
I am hooked on your videos, and love the laid back style. I think you should add metal chest plating in addition to the welders shield while daring to use a skill saw in such a dangerous environment. :-)
Please tell your son that he is killing it with excellent shots on the video. Hey, he could probably make even ME look good. Seriously, this is my top channel for no nonsense build ideas and tips. Excellent! Excellent!
Great video! I may be mistaken but it looked like I could see daylight on the hinge side of door. Is it possible for rain to blow in on that side? I saw the jam added to the handle side. Worried mine would leak on hinge side. How did yours do? Thanks for the videos. Very helpful!
Jeff, it that shed survived that storm where the tornado touched down in Dunrobin yesterday it will stand the test of time! I was crazy enough to drive through it . . Awesome video as always! Maybe build a bridge in the future for the trolls to live under lol
LOVING IT!
What brand of door is slab door you used - we haven't been able to find exterior rated slab doors in our local stores . Did it come from a mill work (trade only) company ? I'm needing a 1 3/4 thick door for a below grade basement entry and a solid wood slab would work . thank you
