    How do u get face plate off?

    • @TopHomeowner
      @TopHomeowner  3 года назад +4

      Most are just held on with pressure. There should be a small dent or dimple at one point around the edge. Find that, and you can use a putty knife (or thin flat screwdriver) between the door and that area to carefully pry it away from the door. It should pop off. Hope that helps!

    You make it look easy. It took me awhile my first time and the lock went bad. Had it replaced and the second time went easier.
    Haven't done it in years so wish me luck on changing locks again.

    The lever lock that I am replacing has no visible screws. How do I get it off?

      For knob based handles there's sometimes a thin "button" that holds the handle in place. You have to push it in with a flat blade screw driver. It may be the case for your case too even if it's a lever. Check out this video too: ruclips.net/video/nVxp3bKfxMk/видео.html

    It would be helpful if you slowed your presentation down when you were rekeying the keys you were careful to point out the new key, but then you did not tell whether you turned it clockwise or counterclockwise and then you did not tell if you remove the old key and which key you inserted and then you said “remove the key after you put in the key tool, but you didn’t tell her you rotated it removed it or pull it straight out and then when you finished everything you said it was re-keyed to the new key and that’s not the new key you were trying to key to the old key so all I’m saying is that your nomenclature Was not clear in the end. I think you broke it down as you started and said here’s the new key. I’m gonna put it in and turn it. 1/4 turn counterclockwise then I’m going to remove it and then I’m going to put in the old key I want it too, and I’m gonna turn it a certain direction and then I’m gonna put in the key to and then I’m gonna turn the key a certain direction and then remove it and now the lock is key to the old key. I know I’ve been verbose, but I’m trying to give an example of how you could describe each and every step because everything you said was perfectly clear until the last 15 seconds, and then it looked almost like a card trick because you couldn’t tell what you were doing, thank you for what you’ve done. I don’t mean to be critical. I offer this as help if you wanted to redo the end I’m engineer and fairly capable of doing things but I didn’t understand you’re closing. Thank you again.

    According to the instructions the lock you installed on this video is upside-down! 😂 The handles did in fact need to be swapped but this video did not give instructions on how to do this. The cylinder also needs to be rotated so that the key doesn’t get inserted upside down (with the teeth upward) for PROPER installation.

    What if a person doesn't have a chiseled out area and it's it's just flat? Could I take the plate off the other part?

    so i'm trying this for the first time. i was near the end and now i feel like an idiot... while i was trying to figure things out, I accidentally put the face plate back on right after i took off the paper insert that comes with the interior lever .. Now i can't get the face plate off the set... so therefore, i can't put the last of the two screws in to finish the job. Is there some simple way to remove it? i've been trying for more than an hour and i'm at my wits end.

      I am sorry we didn't back to you sooner, to hopefully save you from a cut up finger. We were celebrating Thanksgiving and I think someone else asked the same question about a month ago. I'll check to see if we responded and pin the comment if we did. Heal quickly and thank you for watching.

    THANK YOU! Great video. I did two doors replacing old hardware with new just like the instructions said. The biggest key for me was getting the cap off the base of the handle on the first handle I was replacing. Once that was accomplished (With a bent paper clip inside the open center area), I was easily able to undo the two long screws, remove the handle and then the latch. Putting the new unit in was a breeze! The new handles work GREAT!

    FANTASTIC! Thanks for the clear step-by-step directions! Watched the video twice, looked at the new lock parts, and gave it a go! Removing the old handset piece by piece also helped me see how the new set would go right in. Appreciate how you share your knowledge and experience. Thanks again.

    Thanks so much man!!! I used this video to change out all the exterior handles and deadbolts on my new house. I used the exact same Kwikset you used in the video. I did all four doors for $300 (parts). The locksmith wanted $1k to put some garbage locks and deadbolts. This video saved me a bunch of time and money.

    I tried installing a schlage and it was such a pain to turn, even my neighbor who is a handyman couldn't get it to unlock from the inside. I returned it to Home Depot and drove the extra 20 miles to get a Kwickset Smartkey lever and I'm so glad I found this video bc the instructions were hard to read.
    Thanks for your demonstration!

    How do you remove the ones with hidden screws for the handles?

    • @TopHomeowner
      @TopHomeowner  11 месяцев назад +1

      There's usually either a recessed hex screw or a tab you can press in that will release the handle

    • @davidmauricio8886

      I found it. There was an allen screw with reverse threads. Turning it so the screw goes in releases the lever.@@TopHomeowner

    • @TopHomeowner

      It's where the latch comes into contact with the door frame when you open and close it

    I have one issue. The outside part of the door handle does not set flush against the door. There are two tiny pins that I suspect are designed to dig into the wood of the door when it is tight. The problem is our door is metal so the face of the lock wobbles. Are you supposed to grind off the pin? It seems to have been a problem with the previous lock as well, it would wobble.

      That's interesting. I didn't have to make any adjustments with my metal door but I did find Kwikset makes at least one adapter for thinner doors. I'm not sure if it's universal or not but it may help: doorlocksdirect.com/kwikset-thin-door-pack-for-1-3-8-doors-816-series-deadbolt-satin-chrome-83397-26d

    I think mine came with no screws? Or are the screws inside the unit when I unscrew with the L wrench?

      The new one didn't have any screws? It should have a screw pack inside the box
