Romney on Trump and the Republican party

- “Have some people lost their way? Yes. Are others filled with a vision for the future? Absolutely. I think we’ve got 12 people or more that would like to be president, that are thinking of running in 2024. If President Trump continues in his campaign, I’m not sure anyone of them can make it through and beat him. I think he’s got such a strong base of 30 or 40 percent of the Republican voters, maybe more. It’s going to be hard to knock him off as our nominee. If he became our nominee, I think he loses again … I voted to remove him from office twice … It’s not just because he loses … but it’s also he’s simply not a person who I want to have the reins of the government of the United States … I hope that we find someone in my party who has those qualities to lead America to a better future.” - Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah)
In a billion years I never ever expected to agree with Romney... what an upside down world we live in.
Same, my jaw just hit the floor!
Me too. Too bad he was too fake with his I shop at Costco crap when he ran for president.

He's always been a reasonable man, although I wouldn't agree with him on policy in a thousand years.

One of the very few Republicans that can answer simple questions and have a sense of reality. Respect to Romney
How sad that that minimum standard seems so rare in the GOP now.
“Would you support him?”
“Absolutely not!”
But how hard those two words are to all the other Repubs who stumble over the answer, try to play both sides, and fail to play either side.

I was thinking the same thing
Me too! I was just thinking the same thing.
You are not alone, felt exactly the say way.

That's actually VERY condemning in combination with the boast that he voted to impeach twice based on hoax documents.
Mitt is a grown a$$ man. 😂
See how easy it is to answer a question. Straight forward. “Absolutely not”
Absolutely, did he tell you that he voted yes for virtually every spend bill the democrats gave him?? Hes a great straight forward rubberstamp as they come, yeehaa to inflation!!!
Ya and it doesn't take alot words to be straight forward.
Easy to do when the voting population you have to face are part of the same religious group you’re in and always vote for their own people no matter what.
All this "easy answer" shows is Romney's dedication to feelings over facts. The "evidence" used in both impeachment attempts has been shown to be a Hillary/ Democrat/ Deep State hoax based on the manufactured Steel Dossier.
If Romney is so vehemently doubling-down on these absolute errors in judgement he's not a fit candidate to hold power and is himself the epitome of where the Republicans have "lost their way".
He relies more on opinions than on the evidence at hand; and won't walk it back even after we know and he knows we know.
What was more revealing was the spontaneous applause when he said it. The Republican party needs to take note.
I actually had the thought that I'd vote for this guy if he keeps talking sense and is sharp!

Republicans with integrity are such a refreshing change. At last a conversation that doesn't make us want to scream and rip our hair out.
So you assume Republicans have no integrity? How about other parties? You think they have integrity?
What integrity? He fell for the fake Steele Dossier and used it as the prime "evidence" to vote to impeach -- and is still boasting about it years after we know just how fake the Steele Dossier was.
We have very different definitions of "integrity".
This guy is one of ten Republican senators who voted against healthcare for veterans just this year. Integrity my ass. He's a tiny better because he will accept the results of an election he loses. Unfortunately, that bare minimum is now considered praiseworthy.
I'm not sure how strongly I'd come down on Mitt Romney's "integrity," but I do believe he sincerely wants the best for America and the world, even if I would differ with him on how to get there.

Wow, a Republican actually came out on record that he wouldn't vote for Trump again in 2024. That is absolutely astounding.
What's astounding is that Romney voted to impeach Trump twice, yet the question still needed to be asked. If he'd said he would support Trump none of us would have been surprised.

As someone from Utah it’s not often I can be proud of one of our politicians. Mitt’s a rare exception.
Utah takes a bad rap in several areas, and that state did persist in foisting Orrin Hatch on this country for so long. But, gosh, the fact that Mitt can speak so truthfully about Trump and not suffer a severe home state backlash really says something.

The "tsunami" didn't happen. The "wave" didn't happen. The 45% red "tide" is ebbing. *Utah* Republicans, being mostly Mormons, are a little more independent that most. And Mitt is going to be in the Senate for a while.
Well said. It’s strange nowadays hearing a republican actually make sense, but I’m here for it. As an independent voter, if more republicans spoke in this sensible way and had a platform vs “investigations” that don’t benefit the American people at large, I would be open to voting for them.

They would if they weren’t afraid of getting primaried by Trump and losing the MAGA voters. Romney is insulated from that threat as the Utah population is 60% Mormon, and Mormons stick with their own no matter what.

How the Americans could not elect this guy over Trump is beyond me
I hear you, bearing in mind that I voted against him in favor of Mr. Obama's reelection, I "concede" that Mr. Romney would make a far greater impression on the "world stage" compared to Mr. Obama's successor.
He was not in the GOP primaries in 2016. He won these in 2012 but lost the general election against Obama. I still regret that.
American is the land of show-biz and celebrity culture. ....Vulgarity and glitz win out over intellect.
If Trump ran against Obama, I'm almost certain Obama would win. Romney probably could have won if it had been him up against Hilary Clinton. Unfortunately for him, the moment he managed to become the nominee, he was up against the most politically successful US politician of the 21st century so far.
I feel very confident in saying Romney would not have been incompetent or embarrassing as President, whatever else one might criticize him for. That would have been a big step up from 45.

His career as a republican senator are coming to a close. Then Fake news can give him a job like Chaney, and Kinsinger,a couple more sellouts. They have all done their damage to the conservative cause, and will be in the hall of shame.May they reap what they have sown in the years ahead, and live in shame.
I normally don’t comment, but I have to say, respect to Romney.
Nice to see someone with common sense speak
Agreed 💯
Romney-Cheney 2024! Any other candidate is a vote for democrats.
Outstanding choice!
.... good
Romney has always been one of the most standup of the whole party. What has happened to him under this insane clown rule has been criminally unfair.
Romney is the clown
I’m a dem and I’d vote for that guy !
One thing that none of the politicians have is listening to the people!
plenty do, but mainly to manipulate them. But ideally, politicians will be smarter than people and work for their good - showing leadership - even when people might not agree with them. The US really suffers from a lack of this form of leadership. It's one of the reasons it lacks basic supports that other G7 ( and many lower-income countries ) consider settled necessities.
Thank you Senator Romney to speaking truth to power!
Watching from afar. What a breath of fresh air Romney is.Honest and forthright in what he says.Unfortunately he is in the minority amongst his colleagues. Many of them crossed the line in their support of X45 and will be remembered for what they have done to a proud nation.
Breath of fresh air? You best look into his past. Romney was, and is, every bit the scumbag Trump is.
Democrat here. Would vote for Mitt
We need more people that are willing to put Country over Cultism!
I like his practicality.
I like Mit Romney, He reminds me of Ronald Raygun. He's a good guy..
Wow , I’m a left leaning independent, what a shame this man did not get a shot at the presidency. If the GOP has more people like this , who can speak, articulate their ideas, they would get so tired of winning 🏆 not enough politicians like this . Not enough people like this . Good luck to the normal GOP and all those American patriots who are looking to build a better for ALL Americans , left , right and in between
umm .. He almost did ... Oh how everyone has short memories ...
LOL same people who called him a nazi and a racist who wants to force women out of the work force in 2012 are now claiming to respect him.
We got tired of losing with people like Romney, that's why we chose Trump.
@@NixonsHead Well you made the biggest mistake ever. He divided people more than anyone from either party or the Whig’s ever so Biden is just finishing what he started before we have to start all over again trying to remove the high tensions and divisions
Exactly
What a Great Guy.The world needs a man of his honesty and love of hid Country.
Hahaha, thousands of workers kicked out of their jobs by Mittens vulture capitalist past would beg to differ.
Mitt Romney 2024!
yes, or Liz Chaney!
Wow, if only the Republican Party could return to this type of common sense and civility.
Most definitely! There's no Republican better than him. Now, The Governor of Vermont is a Republican, and he's actually pretty good. See, you have to put the people before your party, and it seems like Romney knows how to do that, and I respect him for that.
If only the Democrats would retire when they get old and senile, instead of hanging on to their office until dead, like Joe Biden, Feinstein, Pelosi, RBG, etc..... You will NEVER see a Democrat claim they are too old to hold the office- only Republicans
Thank you Mitt!
