Hi doug ive just started to watch your tuesday tutorials this video being my 7th im putting together the tools you recommend and i will certainly be getting the soldering iron , and the helping hands . im a beginner to the hobby and a big fan of budget model railways and find all yours, and your dads videos to be very helpful . Paul
I thought I'd watched ALL your videos, but just stumbled across this one. Well done - it's given me the confidence to try out my (new) soldering iron! Also good to hear your voice, Jack, rather than your Dad's! You speak very clearly and with great composure ...
Hehe. He also has a more "polished" accent than your own good self - does he attend a "good" school?! BTW, my own putative layout is now "off the ground". To be precise, it's all connected "on the flat" on my dining room floor, sitting on 25mm Styrofoam sheets, to check the "usability" characteristics. Just started fitting the WS inclines and risers, and experimenting with point motors (I'm going to need 18 of them!). So easy with Styrofoam, everything is held down just with drawing pins and dressmaking pins ...BTBTW, I can't recommend Brian Lambert's book highly enough, especially on electrics. And if you don't want to buy it, you can find most (all?) of the text and illustrations on RMWeb.
Hi Doug, excellent video.. soldering and wiring are my only weaknesses in railway modelling. But after watching your video I managed to copy things you had done and now I can at least do some basic soldering, Thank You. Kindest regards Dan 😎👍
This video was very helpful in wiring my DC bookshelf layout. My hobby store manager showed me the basics but two days later, when i was ready to connect the flextrack to power,i had forgotten some of the steps for soldering. Thanks very much. It is now working like gangbusters with strong connections.
It's in the future projects draw, together with too many ideas I just don't have the time yet to work on. I need a lottery win so I can give up work, or else I will have to wait another ten years until I retire! Real life gets in the way of the important things like model railways!!
