Thanks for adding to this series Chris. Now I know how to get into the shutter on a few of my similar models - they have sluggish low speeds.

Thank you for doing this series. I just got an Ikonta 521/2 and the details you show here are really going to help me get it going properly.

Many thanks for the very interesting videos about the fine camera. I have also this model.

Joy might use a pair of machinists dividers (used for scribing circles on sheet metal). The come in various sizes but all with pointed ends.

How can you post a video, for a camera, you don't know how to take it apart?

great info. I have a copy/once-removed half-brother of that lens (industar 105 3.5 from Moskva-4) of that lens. Shutter lever won’t stay in up position when cocked up. Can you advise from your experience if that could be repaired without replacing parts inside just by cleaning? I assume it could be either worn off ratchet/catch or just dirty contact point that won’t hold spring when wound up?

I don't have any experience with that shutter, but assuming it is a fairly faithful copy of the Compur-Rapid, then I'd say the chances are about fifty-fifty that nothing is actually broken with those symptoms.

I'm having a weird deja vu. Did yesterdays video bug out or something?

I'm betting that Chris fixed the first video edit where the final few minutes of the video was repeated. Those of us old enough can remember kids jumping and dancing to the music playing on the record player causing the tonearm to bounce and do the same thing. I'm guessing Chris had grandkids visiting while yesterday's video was uploading to RUclips and their rambunction caused his video to skip. ;-)

How fo you get around the film advance issue. If its the same version as mine, the film it was designed for doesnt match modern paper backw. The insoection window doesnt line up with the frame numbers on film backs.

    • @ChrisSherlock

Once you line up frame number one you close the window and rely on the film advance mechanism to wind the film enough each time to give you eleven frames with no overlapping. There is no expectation that the numbers for the following exposures line up with the window.

You told me you didn't service Super Ikontas, did you start servicing the Super Ikontas now?

I believe Chris has retired now, so don't think he's servicing anything for the public - just his own gear. Hopefully he keeps posting!

@@doriangasseling All good things comes to an end, as you say; hopefully the posts will keep on coming. I have 25 kg of German engineered cameras that's in need of some attention. I have to learn more about it, or they are due for a landfill...
