It got clear as soon as you told Est-ce-que would translate in English as something like “is it that?”… . Very easy and helpful approach Alexa merci beaucoup
This helped a lot. It sounds like the closest thing we use every day in English is when we say a statement, but then add ", right?" to the end of the sentence which makes it a question. Like in the first example, the equivalent would be, "You are French, right?" That's how I'm interpreting it anyway. Or maybe even closer is the way you hear lawyers phrase questions, "Is it true that you are French?"
