In an interview with Headliner radio, Birdy describes loneliness as a mischievous character that is leading her astray, and states that this song is ultimately a love song to loneliness. I wonder if it was a decision to represent loneliness as a physical entity in this music video -- in the form of a blanket, the wind that moves her hair, the dust that rises from her, the waterfall and the flames that she embraces. Even at the end, something invisible holds her from the floor.

I always loved her flirting with the Victorian aesthetics. Man I never thought I'd see a 15 y.old cutie singer become a grown woman musician, kinda weird. Her voice matured but never lost the unique color and pronunciation. Go Birdy :) Hope you make many more albums.
I remember really loving Birdy's voice when I first heard Skinny Love, People Help The People and the whole first album. Fast forward to now, I have to say that this song really moved me from the first notes. The arrangement is incredibly well thought-out, not over-produced, always with the text and the lead vocal up front. A mix of organic and subtly woven synthetic textures. Birdy always reminds me that today's popular music can remain subtle, not self-centered, beautifully written and sublimly performed. Your music has helped me make difficult choices, go through difficult things, and it's doing it again. Thank you ever so much for bringing a bit more joy in this world.

Lol, okay so the first song that I actually heard was people help people, just saw the video & it hit me I was 14 back then. Also I've listened to not about angel's just didn't know who the singer was, fault in our stars is a sad movie I only watched it once but read the book twice just to feel the pain again. So I think I just rediscovered Birdy with just like a river does.
