  • Growing potatoes in a bag - how to grow potatoes in a shopping bag - RUclips.
If you fancy growing some potatoes at home or even growing potatoes indoors but don't have much space or equipment this is a cheap and simple solution.
This is a quick and easy way to grow potatoes for beginners or experienced gardeners.
Good Friday is the traditional day for planting potatoes in the UK but they can be planted in March, April or May and even June depending on the weather. You can expect a potato harvest around four months later - if you're planting the potatoes in later months watch out for blight. Mulching the soil, setting the potatoes in a breezy spot and removing affected leaves quickly can all help to prevent the spread of blight.

Potatoes are sprayed to prevent them from sprouting? Maybe it's a location thing then, because anytime I buy potatoes and don't eat them fast enough, they're always trying to start sprouting out on their own.

Keeping them in a dark cool place helps prevent sprouting

I have the same issue. If I buy a ‘big’ bag from the supermarket, I am usually throwing half of them away. When I had an allotment, I did plant some supermarket spuds that had started sprouting. They did grow, but didn’t give as great a yield, and although perfectly edible, they were definitely not as tasty as ‘proper’ home grown spuds.

@@davidsutherland7737Sarpo Mira seems to be very blight resistant so I have a few on order & will prep a biggish tub for growing them in (all being well, first time & I’m 66!)

My child's school recently told me that this is how they grow them in small spaces there. This is a great idea.. I have a balcony as I live in a flat so I will 100% be giving this a try! Home grown potatoes would be lovely

It's great because they're easy to move around as well - good luck with your growing. 🙂

Ben from GrowVeg just did a good video on potato growing, I had no idea there were 2 different types, as with tomatoes 🙂
