I plant seed potatoes in grow bags every year now. My grandsons harvest them and it’s like an Easter egg hunt. They love it! Thanks for another great video!
😂 I wish I could see their precious faces & hear joyful laughs at them simply finding food for the family 😉. What wonderful helpers indeed 😊 Happy Harvesting.
Take a big bag of good potting soil...put a few holes in bottom for drainage. Just put about 4 or 5 potatoes in and water. They will grow right in the bag...thats a small space too 👍
Nice. I did an experiment last year where I went even lazier. I placed cardboard on the ground, started setting potatoes down and covered with dirt and adding more dirt as the season progressed. It worked !
I live in the windy western desert of NV. I have some bags like plastic grocery bags I am no longer using as they are worn or the handles are off. Maybe I will try that. Thankyou for all the ideas.
@@michelleharrell8452 As the plastic breaks down you may get microplastics in your soil. make sure you peel any root veggies so you dont eat the plastic!
@@michelleharrell8452use wood or bury them in your soil. If health is a priority I’d minimize Plastics in the garden where I could. And with root vegetables especially I wouldn’t put them in plastics. But who knows how bad it actually is, I just say don’t if you don’t have to.
I am so happy that President Trump won now at least we can get cheaper soil and cheaper things for our garden area I need it cuz I barely making it but I'm so happy being a garden
I really loved your interview with the MI Gardner. This is the first time I’ve ever commented on any site because I usually watch on TV but I had to get on my phone and say great job. I’m impressed with both of you.
I watch both channels. Love them both. In addition I watch epic gardening, Jacques in the garden , Huw Richard's and Charles Dowding Migardener which are not necessarily in my zone and some others a little,, but therea wealth of information that can be applied to other zones. I enjoy their wealth of knowledge and experience that I can learn from.
I was prego in 1989😂 i was 16 years old after watching the interview i feel so proud of you and your beautiful food foest!!! A genuine person thats the truth 😉
Love your little man Tuck… looks like all that gardening has him “tuckered out”.😂🤣 Totally enjoying your videos if my ability to garden as I once did is limited due to chronic health issues. I certainly will miss it. 🙏🏽🫶🏽
🥰❤❤❤ for Tuck! Thanks for guarding the garden and helping James with a fantastic and inspiring food forest!. I am waiting for my onion bed to finish so I can break it down and narrow it (from and 8' x 4' to 8' x 2'). Now I am thinking to cut the 4 foot board into thirds and reduce the width even further. Thanks James for showing your success with the potatoes with the "edge" planting. That gave me great insight!
Awesome way to plant potatoes!❤️. I planted potatoes once using the hilling method. It was a pain to harvest them. If I do potatoes again, I will definitely use your new method. Thanks James and Tuck❤❤
We're excited to try this method to grow potatoes as we love our potatoes. Thank you James and Tuck!!! We love you both and watching Tuck eat his veggies just makes us grin ear to ear 🥰❤🐶
Wow, amazing! We just got 39 bags of compost today and are going to plant seeds this weekend. Thank you for all your tips and tricks, as always! Hey, Tuck! ♥♥♥
It makes my heart happy to see how you treat sweet Tucker ❤❤. He is in good hands with you!! I love to see Tucker eating vegetables, and James, thank you very much for your channel. It`s very educational. Regards from a danish peruvian .
I did my potatoes the usual hard way this year, maybe I'll do mine in a couple of these next year! Watching all of these good results from tighter plant spacing makes me want to try some of these techniques! I love the lush look of a space covered in green for several months! My furry friend of Tuck's is one of the reasons I have to put a fence around my asparagus bed!
Jerzee James & Tuck, I really like your idea on that wooden potato raised bed, you are a good carpenter! I had to get my garden ready & planted some groceries before my TKR. So I'm back to watching my favorite gardening channels! ❤❤️💚💚❤️❤️ p.s. I really love my vego garden tool holders, they hold lots & longer tools too! 🥰
Strange how no matter what these guys in the videos do, it not only works, but as time goes by better and better ways of doing it appear seemingly without end.
I think you need to plant and grow much more varieties of asparagus for Tuck and you and more :~) Thanks for telling us about great ways to grow potatoes! Best
❤❤❤❤❤❤for Tuck! I Love watching Tuck feast on Veggies from his Garden 🤣 😢 I meant Your Garden. I Love your enthusiasm for everything Gardening and just came across this video on "the lazy way to grow potatoes... Thank You for all Your helpful knowledge for a greater harvest
Great video. I have been planting seed potatoes in grow bags. No digging involved except to shovel in compost from my bins. Grow bags makes harvesting very easy, but I see that you were more or less able to pull all the potatoes up by the stems and leaves. Digging up potatoes with a spade or fork tends to result in damaging several.
This is my first year growing potatoes and this video was so informative. I appreciate you making videos that always help me with gardening. Gotta give a shout out to the boss Tuck 🐕 ❤❤❤.
Thank you. I appreciate how thoroughly you explain things. It makes me confident in my own garden production, watching your videos and using your methods. 🙂
My seed potatoes from Fedco arrived today! Elba OG. I am going to put together the "box" in the next couple of days. Thanks for this video. It inspired me.
Thank you! ❤️❤️ I love seeing Tuck eating fresh veggies! My brother’s dog loves broccoli and carrots, well pretty much any veggies and most fruit. No he doesn’t get grapes, raisins etc.. no tomatoes no onions But this is one sneaky Lab. If you’re cutting vegetables and go to the stove, if you haven’t given her a piece she’ll just try to get something while your not looking! Love the tutorial on planting potatoes this way! I have to protect my plants from many turkeys and Magpies
I just stumbled upon your channel. This was the best, most concise and instructive gardening video I have ever seen! So much essential information without the long winded saturation of info. Thank you so much. And Tuck was adorable ❤❤❤❤
I have a new bed with no soil that I'm gonna try Ruth stout method. I have some compost and a little bagged top soil to put on top and a ton of leaves from the fall to mulch with. It doesnt get a ton of sun but we'll see how it goes and I'll be building soil for next seasons crops. Did you cut the blooms off as they appeared on the plants?
I love this idea. I was wondering how to get a load of potatoes out of my small space over here. Thanks to you and Tuck, now I know! Thank you SO MUCH. You've like a gardening encyclopedia right here in my laptop! Awesome. ❤❤❤'s for you and Tuck!!!
I've had good luck with potatoes in grow bags which isn't a completely different concept. I wonder if you put hardware cloth on the bottom of the narrow bed you could grow potatoes without any danger of mole damage.
Thats a super good way to keep animals out too. I think you can just use hay instead of soil. It looks clean and the plants are beautiful. Ive seen people do it in burlap sacks or laundry baskets. Definitely ideas. Thank you!
❤ you can actually take off the shoots and plant them. I doubled m6 potatoes by doing just that. And i planted the potatoes. Dad is 90 and showed me how to cut the potatoes 🥔 to get even more. ❤
