- Some poor guy got ripped off huge for a beyond half ass repair that left that shop pissing oil and coolant and still had the audacity to charge for the attempted repair.
You can tell this guy knows what he's doing because he has a mechanic's thumb.
Carpenter's thumb.

who tf helicoils head bolts? lmao. I used to like the press in thread inserts for heads but the timeserts are the way to go now. When we do big power LS or other aluminum block motors we drill and timesert them inbefore hand. It's like the old days on vw air cooled you'd put case savers.
Heli Coil is now manufactured in China... Their taps won't even cut the threads properly...
I use Time Serts made in America...
Through Worth Tools...
Time serts are the cats a$$
This kit is from huhn solutions, very high quality.
Whoever did this watched a "one neat trick" tiktok video
Mad props for the salty content.
Used heli coil once, in a college night class when I was learning how to repair lawn mowers.
It was miserably, ductape would have worked better.
Is that a TimeSert insert?
No it’s from huhn solutions
Those aren't supposed to be fixed. You're supposed to scrap the motor and get a new long block. It's a Kia.
Nah you can fix em with time serts, although more than 3-4 is questionable
@@tylerbehrends3304kia only cuts the threads a inch or so in. Thats why its so common. Saving money on machining time and bits i guess..
The block will soon have a new set of windows, anyway..
Damn ,I dont see how that would hold up to torque!...🤣😂
Right, exactly. You will see a running video when I’m done just waiting on a few more of those inserts
They should. Ive seen these things hold so tight that the bolt has stretched and snapped off with the threads intact and still seated.
You would have to try hard to manage to do this with a normal head torque wrench like 200-350ftlbs try!
Proper helicoils should hold until the bolt stretches or breaks.
They must be cheap crap. Although the proper ones are pretty expensive lets be honest.
If we're going to a Heli Coil style repair... We use an American Made heli-coil kit... It comes with the drill & a beautiful sharpe Tap...
The name brand name,
Now is a brain fart... I'm 73 years old and have been an Automotive Machinist since 1980...

Brodix heads come with helicoils on the rocker bosses. Its way stronger than the base metal. It looks like what happened here is the helicoils were installed too far down and the holes were bored too deep. When the bolts started to engage with the repair it started to stretch the wire out of the block and up the threaded shank of the bolt.
