How do you deal with not having a split E mechanism on the 222 for the high E. I want the 222 but am struggling with purchasing something like gemeinhardt 2sp that has split E. Maybe Yamaha's quality is such that it will produce a decent high E without split E. Thought I would ask an experienced music teacher like yourself. I do like the French style center push on the keys instead of the Y setup. Hear it produces a better seal and needs just a light touch of the keys for seal. Thank you for your time and help
This is really helpful - I’m literally just starting to learn on a well maintained but oooold Yamaha 22S which was a gift - but I’ve had a chance to try a modern flute and they’re just much easier to play right from the start. I got offered a 222 as a bargain today and this has helped me decide to go for it, even if it needs a service
I have the 311, silver headjoint closed hole offset G. With the French case and burgundy velvet which does not shed, it came with the same cleaning rods the flutes in your video have. I use a cleaning rod with cotton hanky as well as a soft wool doofer can't think of the name of it, for cleaning the inside. When I have finished playing I tip the contents of the headjoint into my sink because its wetter than Manchester (UK)! Also have a chinese Dizi flute and love them both! Your video had me transfixed, thanks for posting
I am looking at flutes in my area that are used and we found a flute that seems Interesting. I am most likely going to be majoring in music but right now I am a sophomore in high school. I am looking for a high end intermediate flute or a entry level profesional flute. I have a Trevor j James England TJ10X right now and it is a student model beginner instrument. I found an Emerson sterling silver flute offset G, b foot joint, embroidered gold lip plate and open hole. I’ can’t find any information on the company or the flute itself do you know anything about a flute like this and how it would rank? I also have found some Yamaha flutes as I’m just curious about the Emerson thanks
Thoughts on differences between Yamaha student and Gemeinhardt student models? That would be the choice many parents have to make for serious beginner learners.
They took the split E mechanism off the 221, 222, and 262. Why? It's on their 212. Can I still use the 222 as an intermediate model and hit high E with the 222? Yamaha's open hole 262 does not even have split E. Am purchasing the 222 over Gemeinhardt 2sp which has split E. Been advised Yamaha is the better instrument. I should be playing high E consistently in a couple of months. Should I base my decision on whether the instrument has a split E mechanism? Yamaha must have a reason for not including split E. Thank you for your help
Hello! I have a question, I'm planning to purchase a 222 and I'm trying to search if you recommend the flutes made in China instead of Japan, what's que china's quality? Thanks
What do i cange in my embouchre to do tone color? And how do i make the strong/downbeats in a piece of music? I am having trouble figuring these things out.
I want to learn to play the flute but I don't know what to choose between yfl222 or yfl 322. I am 30 years old and I want to make a long-term quality choice. So there are big differences between these two? Between sterling silver or nickel silver headjoints? Beacause the price for yfl322 is double
Long term, pay the extra 400 for the sterling head. Play one first if possible to see how you actually like the sound. I went from bottom end to all sterling rather than a sterling head upgrade. They sound different for a number of reasons. With years of a full sterling instrument, some days I really prefer the sound of a cheap flute.
Thank you very much! Meanwhile I bought a Yamaha Yfl 272. I started from 0 and after only 6 months the sound was great in the low register. Now, it's been 11 months since I started and although I've been consistent, I still have (big) difficulties in the middle register even from E, F. Oh, and for G is a lot of strugle. Now, I don't know if the flute makes things a little more complicated and if an upgrade would help or it's just a matter of practicing more. Someone said that the 200 series is more for young people and somehow you confirmed that. I wonder if I should upgrade to the 300 or 400 series.
Talking about outgrowing instruments, I'm curious about differences between the 322 and your Mateki: What kind of things can you do with your Mateki, which you could not do (that easily) with the 322 ?
Lol I remember starting on a Yamaha student flute too. It was kind of funny watching this video and seeing how much it has changed since fourth grade when I got my first flute. Nice video 👍
Have you ever played a yamaha YFL21S? And if you did, what's your impression? Does it really compare to the 222? (Just curious, because I actually was able to pick up a used 21S for only €50,- .. I'm an absolute beginner on flute)
I’m looking into buying an open hole flute for high school (after playing for a couple years) what would you suggest? (I’m on a Gemeinhardt plateau key flute right now)
Hey you posted this on my birthday!! Question, How do you know what metal suits you if you live in a different country where you don't have a flute festival or showcase? Love from Thailand :D
Is there a chance that you can get your hands on lefreQues? I discovered that they have an uncanny ability to replicate how different metals feel :) Unfortunately, you really do need to actually try different metals until you get a feel of which ones resist vs. complement you!
Hello, I am quite new to this Chanel but i love it. I am searching for advice on playing staccato and am not able to find anything that helps to my in particular. I got a new flute teacher about a year ago and she has been telling me, when doing staccato to tap the tip of the tongue more at the front of my mouth (on the upper teeth). Untill now my tongue was always touching the roof of the mouth but she says that is too far. Whenever i try tapping at the teeth I spit all over the place and the sound is too distorted... I dont quit understant what to do and the teacher's explanation is not clear to me. Could someone point me at the right direction (video or advice). Or maybe if "Just another flutist" Could do a video About this...
I got the 222 when they just arrived at my local music store. Funny enough they were so new the stockers labeled it as the old model (221) so I got a discount :). It worked well, but I'm glad I upgraded now.
Several of my students have the Yamaha 222. Very nice sounding beginner model!
