"People moved on from this game, everyone's playing Animal Crossing now." This is actually a pattern I've noticed that probably stems further than my listings but first it was Three Houses, then DQ 11, Sword and Shield, and then Luigi's Mansion, and now Animal Crossing (not including any of the what I feel are lesser cared about games) and soon Xenoblade and/or Bravely Default 2. All these games seem like a short "phase" where they're super popular online and then people move on to the next game like it's nothing and it makes me sad. I feel each one of these games should be more "lasting" and I'm sure many people are making the best of those games still but it makes me wonder if we really should be getting more from these games if people move on so quicky. (DQ 11 Being an exception)

That's just how the cultural zeitgeist works. A big thing happens, people talk about it, another big thing happens, people move on and talk about that. This is very apparent in videogames because it is one the few industries that are anti-monopoly by design and their are so many products and companies trying to be the next big thing at the same. This isn't the fault of the games, it's just human nature to be distracted by new things.

    The ARMS Community Says “Hello!”
To be fair, the “characters” in ARMS aren’t really like the characters in a more traditional Fighting game. They’re more like “Classes” in a Shooter.
They don’t determine your move set, they determine your Play-Style and Abilities that you want to equip your Arm Weapons on to. (If I choose Ribbon Girl, I choose the Small Hurtbox, Multi-Jump Class, etc.) and with the ability to customize your Arm load-outs, and mix-and-Match different Arm and Fighter Combinations of which there were literally thousands even at launch, I wouldn’t say ARMS had a bad beginning roster of Classes. You can’t look at it through the same lens as other Fighting Games, cause it’s it’s own thing.
As someone with over 1,500 Hours in ARMS (I make ARMS Tech Videos, So I Lab.), I know that Arm Customization is (literally) the name of the game.

    • @LAnite430
      @LAnite430 4 года назад +9

100% agree. I’ve watched actual gameplay and the ARMs in ARMS are definitely the main draw from the game. The characters are supplementary to your “actual fighter,” which is what pair of arms you equip. It’s kinda like Warframe where you could not use a single ability and still get through the levels fine because unless you’re playing a caster, your guns will get you through no problem.

it seems that the difference is that Nintendo releases that content later for free, while this is still a bit scummy, there are worse cases of this, like the Capcom disk-lock controversy you mentioned, which seems to be paid content, or the SwSh case, which is adding stuff (with some of it being in the game's data already, but it's mostly cosmetics) as Paid DLCs with the price tag of half the game's prices, and the content being added doesn't even seem to be worth the money.

I think the 'Nintendo is intentionally withholding content to release later' thing is a bit of a tinfoil hat moment, I think it has more to do with the fact that things are withheld because they're straight up unfinished when it's time for release. Games are getting more expensive to make and Nintendo has shareholders to please and rioting crowds to keep happy - look at what happened to their stocks when they delayed AC. And to be honest, I think Nintendo's method of 'release it later in a free update' is the best solution for everyone compared to 'delay the game further,' 'overwork staff to finish everything,' 'release an unfinished game and move on', or, god forbid, 'release an unfinished game and finish it with paid DLC', (which albeit seems to be the route they're taking with SwSh, unfortunately)
I'm not saying there isn't a better solution, or that Nintendo is above criticism here, but I think that among the swathes AAA studios constantly releasing unfinished pieces of shit, Nintendo comes out looking *relatively* okay.
And to be honest criticising Mario Maker 2 3.0 just seems like you're ragging on the concept of content updates in general. The real issue was that that game launched without online multiplayer with friends, which is completely ridiculous. I think your other examples (except maybe Animal Crossing, for which I feel like this style of content release might work? We'll see - it seemed to for New Leaf,) are perfect - Arms was unfinished and still feels that way tbh, Splatoon 2 is great now but felt really lacklustre on launch, and Star Allies was a joke.
Otherwise, great video. I do think BOTW was the last first-party Nintendo game that felt properly finished on launch, (having cut content doesn't indicate something is unfinished - *every game has cut content,)* as even Mario Odyssey had content problems before its update, though I didn't buy Luigi's Mansion 3 so I can't say for sure.

Honestly nintendo has kindof been slowly giving less poopoos about their games and more poopoos about money since the Wii U era. For example, the artificial amibo shortages, animal crossing amibo festival forcing you to buy amibos, and Mario Maker just being barebones and even unfinished with all the updates. But now especially, they've really been lowering the poopoos given on their content. Like how you have to pay 20 buckaroonies for online things that would've been free in earlier generations. Having to use said subscription for virtual console instead of buying the games you like and keeping them forever. As well as what Uncle Al is saying. (Plus having to pay like 15+ dollars to keep your pokemon which like half are gone anyway.).
But what scares me the most is how tiny poopoos they'll give in the future. Like, if they're going this low now, and stay on this path, we might be hitting rock bottom soon.

But at the same time, I’m glad they added new allies, ultimate choice, guest star, etc. If you’re trying to get into the series, I would rather you choose Triple Deluxe or Planet Robobot. I feel the big issue, as Uncle Al said, is that the content IS THERE IN THE CODE, but Nintendo is removing from the release and THEN sprinkling the content in as time goes on. If the content wasn't being removed and then released later on, and the game was instead getting completely new stuff added to it as time went on, that'd be totally fine.

I’m glad there’s more people noticing and calling out on this sleezy bullshit strategy that Nintendo’s been doing and how the majority just settles for it. This is a problem I started to notice back in 2018 when you had most newly released Nintendo games doing this at the time all of a sudden. Kirby Star Allies had really made me notice and I felt nothing but devoid and bitter of it. And don’t even get me started with Sword and Shield..It is the by far the WORST example of pulling this bullshit.
This is the kind of strategy that makes me now feel skeptical of recent Nintendo releases on the Switch and how the cycle of hype is created and extinguishes over and over again. This is the kind of thing that not only makes me feel skeptical but even distrustful of them from time to time. And I hate that I have to feel that way. I hate that this is even their recent strategy to begin with since it’s just bullshit. It’s deliberately disregarding one of the biggest and main priorities of developing a fucking video game: making sure the main game itself feels complete and the main idea is set in stone from start to finish.
No. It just isn’t about that anymore. Now it’s about throwing away that big priority and forcing you and others’ attention span onto DLC and DLC only and not a satisfactory main game with tons of replay ability. Not if it can feel satisfactory but if it can deliberately feel dissatisfactory and never letting players feel content with what they have and forcing them into a dragging cycle. They’re literally telling you to wait for months or even a fucking year to rely on a game to have DLC just to feel like a “complete” game. It’s an illusion and trickery. And it’s easy to fall for it or be in denial of it when they are manipulating the image of your favorite franchise for you to give them undeserved praise and loyalty. Nobody would be acting like that if it was on a franchise that they didn’t give two fucks about or were swayed into believing that a franchise was always in this “certain way” but its recent changes are helping it. Right? RIGHT??? (*Sonic Franchise* and it’s general publicity*)
And apparently now those who call Nintendo or another company similar out for pulling this weasel act, an army and I mean a fucking legion of fans will rush out and tell how you’re wrong and hateful and will continue to make you out like the bad guy in the situation. Nintendo or not, this is the kind of shit that deeply pisses me off and makes me feel skeptical and distrustful about the recent things I often get into. If anything, it’s hard to get into hyped up overwhelming things without feeling like I have to force myself into it for the sake of it all because it’s loud and the big talk for now and everyone will treat it like the second coming of Christ when it pops up or create drama out of it. It’s a reactionary cycle that I genuinely HATE and want to desperately isolate myself away from it as much as possible. It doesn’t help when the entire cycle or arrival of the cycle engraves deep bad anxiety into me.
I’m deeply pissed off and bitter about it all because these are franchises that are genuinely cared for and loved for a multitude of reasons, depending on the individual fan and to see the reality of them getting manipulated like this is just painful, bitter, and depressing. It seems like the majority WILL instantly be in denial about the reality before that reality starts to escalate even further until it’s FINALLY clear and noticeable as all hell to wake up the majority but in a time where it’s already too late....

I really wish the game was finished before release and had all the characters and the few more modes instead of being given the Nintendo price tag when it was bare bones. The only positive was at least I didn't have to pay money for All Might, DeviantArt OC, Crash, Ow The Edge, or Aluminum Pants. But it ain't saying much since it might as well be me paying forty bucks for the unfinished game and twenty bucks for new characters, badges and one new mode that make the game complete.

You know, looking back on this video reminds me of why I stopped playing my Switch. I, too, saw this pattern and it just really turned me off from the console entirely. I think the final nail in the coffin for me was Luigi’s Mansion 3 (a game which I had HUGE expectations for), which let me down in almost every way. Sucky replayability, sucky characters and voice acting (with the exception of Morty who was good), and a generally unfun map layout. I remember the museum floor had like, 2 rooms. I repeat, an ENTIRE FLOOR with TWO TINY ASS ROOMS.
Compare this to Nintendo games from my childhood (such as Mario Galaxy). Those games were jam-packed with hours upon hours of charming content. If I got tired of a game, there’d always be a day where I could revisit it and it would still be just as magical. The Switch lacks this magic however, due to Nintendo’s change of focus from 100% quality to, well, money.

The problem is when we get bare releases at launch, especially when certain games (ARMS and Star Allies in particular) don't even feel "full" when they're done, or how Mario Maker got only two (albeit beefy) major updates and they just... stopped. I think Animal Crossing and Splatoon are a bit more on the better side of this but they aren't perfect either. I hope if Nintendo continues this, they at least try to improve it, and honestly, stop doing this with single-player games like Kirby.

Why wait for all the extra modes that we actually like to be added in, yet force World of Light down our throats which is honestly the biggest waste of time and my least favorite mode in Smash history. Not only that, Smash's DLC costs money, and the only one I was interested in was Terry Bogard.
It would still be nice for a game to feel more complete at launch, but I'd also love the content to be something worth playing.
