How To Grow Broccoli At Home | SEED TO HARVEST

  • HOW TO GROW BROCCOLI IN CONTAINERS | FULL INFORMATION
    IMPORTANT TIPS:
*Keep the pot in an area where it receives 4-5 hours of sunlight.
*Water regularly to keep the growing medium evenly moist.
*The seeds are going to germinate in 7-14 days.
*When they are 5-7 inches tall with 3-4 true leaves, transplant them to the desired pots. Use big pots for good results
*Soil mix: 60% garden soil+40% organic compost(leaf mold, cattle manure, vermi compost etc)
*Burying your broccoli plants deep into the soil helps them grow better because broccoli form roots all along any buried portion of the stem
*Broccoli requires a site with exposure to full sun (6 to 8 hours per day). Lack of sunlight may produce thin, leggy plants and subpar heads.
*Side-dress broccoli with aged manure during the time of planting and once again in midseason, when half of its growth is done.
*The perfect time to harvest is right before the broccoli flowers. Look for closed flower heads; yellow flowers mean the quality clock is already counting down, so harvest immediately.
    GROWING TIME:
Broccoli is cool-season crop, so it should be started in early winter months.
September and October are the best months for seed germination

The heads of my broccoli start to form then I always get little yellow flowers. Help anyone??? I mean tiny, tiny broccoli heads. Nothing worth even harvesting- then it flowers. I just can’t seem to do it right

Choose good varieties n buy good seeds ...plant them in big containers and fertilize them regularly ....they love cold climate so make sure to plant them during cold season when temperature is between 6 to 25 degree Celsius

@@urbangardeningofficial great advice. Was wondering if I bought something too cheap. Maybe that’s it. Bec the head does start then it’s maybe the size of one bite lol. I’m on Long island so in October I’ll start from seed then plant in cold. Tyvm

Some broccolis have small heads and are meant to be that way. You eat the head and stalks and leaves. Of course, all broccoli, you can eat the stalks and leaves also. My mother would peel the giant stalks and pickle the crispy center. I just eat those raw. They are sweet and delicious. Much yummier than the big head. I even like the small heads better, though the best part of the broccoli are the stems. Too bad most westerners waste their broccoli plants.

Now im going to go out to pull some of the bottom leaves off! They are actually doing pretty good considering we didn't plant seedlings deep enough. I went back and put seed starter soil around to hold them up. I only lost one plant! Im in lower Michigan so the weather and temps are always crazy. 😜 I'm SO happy to hear about a second harvest possibility!!! Thank you! Your video with notes at the bottom are much appreciated!
