I think you are one of the few instructors who gives functional advice. Often we get "paint by the dots" type of instructions where to be and how it looks, but you give "why's" and connect it to natural movement. Thanks.
working on this presently. I'm doing the "push and squat drill". As in push hands back at the top of the swing and simultaneously squat. it helps with a number of issues. It keeps me from pulling on the club from the top, helps get a bigger shoulder turn, deeper hands and getting the club shallower. It also helps with something I don't hear a lot of instructors talk about which is "fire late". I used to expend too much energy early and hit at the ball instead of through it with a more effortless finish. Adam does a great job streamlining the information and reassuring viewers that this stuff ain't rocket science.
The first time I have seen a throwing of the clubs/heavy weight correlation. Great visual to create the catapult with ground energy source. Love that !! Thanks Adam
I've always had problems making enough shoulder turn. I do turn my hips enough. My backswing has been trail side dominant and my downswing lead side activated. A recent swing change has been to focus on turning the right and left side shirt seams simultaneously to get the chest turning more and on plane, while doing both the backswing and downswing... What a transformation! This fits in with your swinging 3 clubs demo. Two sides are so much better than one when swinging anything, especially if it's heavy and any club at speed is heavy. The squat seems to happen very naturally, as does the shoulder turn, after making this change.
I am working on this and has been tough to make a natural move. Will work the drills you gave. If there are any others with specifics would love to know. I am a member of SGA and Golf Fanatics. Always to the point and great no-nonsense instruction.
Another great explanation from Adam. He would be a great teacher at almost anything. Punchy high quality content delivered with a fluency that others in the RUclips arena could benefit from copying.
Hello Nacos, I flew down to Naples from cold Minnesota last month for lessons with Adam. This was the best thing I could have ever done for my golf game. Adam is top class!
Hi Adam, your videos are absolutely incredible. I’ve recently been getting back into golf after shoulder surgeries after not playing since I was a teen and your instructions have become the basis I use to try to train. I had a question I wasn’t sure has been addressed in a video before. I’m 6’7” and struggle with lower back pain and pain in my right hand. I try to focus on good posture, but sometimes it feels strange and I feel like I’m leaning over too much, even though that’s really the only way I can consistently keep myself low enough to make good contact. I was wondering if you have any advice for overly tall golfers? I love the sport, bought my first club set as an adult and go to the local range once or twice a week. Should I go less to minimize pain? Is there anything I can do? Thank you so much for your content!
Thanks for the kind comment. I'd say a good custom fit for your clubs would be the main thing, it might help you achieve a posture that's easiest on your back. I hope this helps. All the best, Adam
Hi Adam. When straightening/turninge the body again after having moved "into the ground", does the upward pressure come more from the left/leading leg or the right/trailing one? My left leg is sort of damaged after a bad surgery, but what I remember from the feeling before the surgery: 1) the leading leg in that phase sort of brings the hip up, 2) the right "turns" the opposite side with its pressure. How would you describe energy and pressure distribution and rotation/upward movement responsibility in the swing phase? thanks a lot!
Andreas, I don't think each successful player does it exactly the same. That said, force plate data shows that by impact most top players are at least 80% on their left side, so you'd be pushing up more off the lead/left foot. All the best, Adam
@@Scratchgolfacademy Thanks for your prompt reply, much appreciated. I am 67 years old and am in recovery of a broken humerus just below my left front shoulder socket. Needless to say recovery and physical therapy have been very slow. I’m not giving up even though my game may be permanently gone. When you can’t turn, it’s hard to hit the ball out of one’s shadow. I’m trying to move different muscles to make a turn without much success. I am attempting to be a right side hitter instead of a left puller. However, I love the game too much to quit.
Very good video! I'll have to try that 3 club drill. I've been practicing this squat & jump move all winter inside. The timing is critical to success I find.
sorry you are totally missing this, you are on a tilted plane so the "squat" is only an illusion of the hips rotating around the spine, a squat is "lower"..personally I think you have too much hip tilt like most players...if you stand more erect it's easier to turn
by the way Tiger ruined his back with that squat for power move...don't do it..notice Snead? Very upright at address, btw both Tiger and Sam are physical freaks...for the rest of us? Just keep it in the short grass

Can’t beat the content on here. Every video, like this one, very helpful with proper explanations- cheers Adam, much appreciated.

Adam has such a great, casual way of explaining the often overlooked but fundamentally necessary aspects of an efficient golf swing.
Thanks for the comment!

This may have very well fixed my drive. Thank you Mr. Bazalgette
Thanks, and glad to hear you've made progress.

What a beautiful green course even during the winter. People have it great way down there. Good for them. I wish I could hit a bucket of balls there.
Thanks Corek. I feel lucky to be at Mediterra.

Nice explanation of how to make it more automatic ! Do you buy into this happens BEFORE you finish the back swing ?
Thanks John. Yes, fractionally, it should initiate the change of direction.

This is it, the wording works, and explained well. Auto distance, and a lot less effort. This is it!
I'd love to take a few lessons with this guy

Glad you liked the drill Matthew.

Should the chest just move down or are you bending your knees to bend?
I’m increasing spine angle, not knee flex per se. You might find there is more pressure glutes and quads. There is some room for personal preference

Tx Adam...why does it feel like I'm going to bottom out before the ball when I do this?
Hard to say without seeing you swing Conor. Perhaps more weight shift to the front leg would help.

That heavy club drill looks like a great idea. I can do this with woods but with irons I start missing heel side for some reason.

When I squat my club hits the ground before. I can get hit the ball,
Hard to say without seeing you swing John, but I'd guess you are not retaining enough wrist angle approaching impact.

The reality of this often quite over exaggerated move in its explanation by many others. Cause and effect put into motion. Thanks

It's a natural kinetic chain, you can't seperate bits out, as Rory says 'don't think about a f***ing thing'
Joe,
What Rory says is all good and well, but for millions of golfers out there some instruction can be helpful. No worries.
