My Lyre Sings Only Of Love

- This song is performed in ancient Greek on an instrument called the “barbitos”. It is of a unique family of ancient lyres that are flexible and able to play all the notes that you can play on a keyboard, as well as slides and vibrato.
If you want to know more about this kind of lyre, I made a RUclips video explaining exactly how it works. Here is the link.
• The True BARBITOS Lyre...
I'm starting to think that Mr. Pringle is an immortal who's lived through and visited every ancient civilization chronicling their music for future generations.
I cannot agree more
I suspect that one of the characters in the ancient fresco in the background is actually a depiction of him.
Peter Pringle: awesome since the Gilgamesh times
exactly!
"How long have you been following his channel?"
"IN THOSE DAYS, IN THOSE ANCIENT DAYS"
@@whatzittooya9012 Hahaha :D
Enkidu would be like: damn right boy!
there needs to be a gilgamesh movie with this dude doing the music
Is he an alien? Ancient alien theorists say yes!
Random pringle makes my day.
Apart from always being an impressive instrumentalist, you always impress me with your splendid vocals Peter. Keep the great work, love from latin america.
I am Greek and super surprised. It really feels like he has a Greek throat. Very close to how we pronounce words, great job!
Those last three plucks are a bit lewd, but in a classy and tasteful way. They're like a wink at the listener.
intellectual comment
The haunting echoes of ancient times past. Mr pringle you breathe life once more to those long since past.
A big thank you from an archaeologist!❤️
Are you Greek Sir ?

Makes me appreciate history and the people from all those years ago..... we're the same people
As a Greek proud of my heritage I am very fond of your effort to get inspired from the greek letters as well as other ancient texts. I may check the text but just from hearing it sounds accurate. As for the music it is known we cannot resurrect it except to the extent we study its prosody, but anyway I find these makings interesting and respectful enough to show to my music class pupils. Thank you, keep up beautifully
I am surprised that you did not choose to use the ancient greek pronounciation but the modern greek (or hellenistic, that is about 200-300 years later) instead, perhaps next time, there is plenty of writing in english about this, I guess you are aware
All melodies discovered then can be discovered now, for music is timeless and at the very heart of existence.
He doesn't pronounce the ancient Greek language correctly. Most of the words are pronounced wrong. Probably his Anglosaxon teachers in college tried to teach him the anglo-latin ish pronunciation of the ancient Greek language.
@@katerinapatiniotis5598 I cannot explain the fact that he doesn`t use the ancient greek pronounciation since I have heard the ancient greek pronounciation in music making solely by english/anglosaxon students/professor makings... that is why I was surprised. If you are aware of music reproduced in attic or other (correct) pronounciation of the ancient time, by anyone, I would be fond if you could send me
I'm not sure whether we know the pronunciation of every ancient greek dialect (although I'd imagine we know Ionic since we study a lot of Epic greek. Personally I'm only sure of how Attic was pronounced according to which the song is indeed wrong). What surprised me is that he decided to change verse while singing in the middle of what the written verse (if that makes sense)
Nevertheless the song is beautiful the way it turned out
The lil "wobble" is my favorite part of ancient Greek music
If you mean the wobble in voice it is called "melismatic singing" you can find it also in flamenco and some other styles of folk music
its also called vibrato, mostly on instruments though. like elneutrino90 said, most singers call it melismatic when singing
guess whos back... back again
pringles back, tella frien
I'm always hype when Peter posts something new. You never know what you're gonna get with him. I wish he did more vids.

These things are so beautiful and all so very important. Never stop reminding us of our ancient and beautiful history.
I see what you mean.
I wish I could get my hands on all these cool instruments! I would do nothing else for my whole life except play them.
Peter you are fantastic, I love your work
The world is a grander place with you in it good sir.
Very haunting, stirred some deep memories. Great work Peter.
Very ancient ones?
For me, you are one of the best artists in the world
Peter, take your Talent to America’s Got Talent..!! If you did the ancient Egyptian song, you’ll blow people away!
Enchanting as ever. Your music sounds effortless and at ease, which shows not only the musical dexterity and appreciation you possess but the research and the overall analysis that go into these performances. The language, the dialect, the instruments... Ancient words sung into revival...
Much respect Sir
stumbled into your music and I am blown away, you provide a window into long-forgotten times and music ... please keep making these :-)
Amazing! I really enjoy your historical and musical feats. As you said in your bio, it was truly the best choice, to be the jack of all trades... Please keep up your good work!
When a archeologist is also a musician which can play a lot of unheard instruments and sings extremely well:

Another exqusite and haunting evocation and honoring recreation of ancient instrumentation and poetry. Thank you.
Oh, Peter! Finally you are back. ☺️👍🏻 And the Greek excursion sounds impressive. Your voice was made for hymns, I believe.
Mr. Pringle, I never cease to be impressed by your work! I would love to buy an album of your work. Or, barring that, to support you on Patreon. Do you have anything like that? Thanks for what you do!!!
A Pringle album would be amazing
A special person of art and education keeping us in touch with history.

Mister Music Man aka Peter Pringle aka The greatest musician, yet, plays many instruments, sings beautifully, in many languages, what more can one ask, except: keep going *thunderous, standing, jumping, applause*
With all respect from România, keep up your work. You bring history to life. Thank you!
Thank you for this song 🖤 ❤️ warmed my heart again
I keep coming back to this song; the music really embodies the sweetness and passion of the text. Mr. Pringle, your work in the ancient music field is memorable, helping us to remember the fact that we are one species, with commons feelings and struggles, even in geographic or temporal distances.
You're an inspirational human being. Thanks!
I love these lyrics.

The world needs its Pringle.
You play well and you do good history, and you're a good performer. It's always a pleasure when you share with us and yes, I'm a little jelly of that much talent in one person!
I'm proud Greek, and I'm proud for you, mister ❤🇬🇷
Such a delight to have another video so soon. Thank you sir, and as always this leaves us wanting more.
Peter, you fucking did it again. Much love.
Very powerful my friend. You must be into archeoacoustics
Stunninggg
this is excellent, much honour to you good sir
Τέλειος! Συγχαρητήρια Peter!
I hope you are well Peter! :)
Such a wonder shared! any edition of the classic's (like "The Epic of Gilgamesh in Sumerian") played by the Master? ...cause must be some and I can't find anything on Amazon other than "Le Jeue De L'Amour". I know I can run some YT download, but think Mr Pringle deserve something else, so much talent, inspiration and clarity, so many invaluable contributions to the cultural heritage of humanity must have a formal format, I guess, and, if nobody with the necessary edition capability do the honors and call the genius... well, shame on you, mankind!
It's so interesting to see how different cultures in different time express love. Splendid performance!
Just discovered this amazing man.
I had no idea the ancient lyre was capable of bending notes. Nice harmonic
Totally love music, thank you , inspirational
Thank you
i love you peter pringle
Brilliant once again!
Oh God this is so beautiful. Thank you for doing what you do. Stay safe ❤

It sounds like my stratocaster when i dive bomb with the whammy bar and pluck the strings as they are still slack. I love it!
It is magic, thanks for your channel sir, you're music is a nice gift.
I really like your ancient song cover, really hoping you could play more babylonian or even egyptian song (i really like how exotic they sound!)

i empathize so deeply with this song even though it was written 3,000 years ago. the woman im in love with, sometimes my relationship with her just goes above everything else. i try whatever i can, but i can only think of love some days. sometimes i just think: fuck everything, i sing for love.
