I think Shuhua actually rocked the double belt dress, mostly because it fit her body type. She’s not as thin as the other girls who wore it (I prefer Winter in the green outfit from the Spicy MV (which I hated Giselle’s blue wig and NingNing’s pink ponytail extension) and the outfits LE SSERAFIM’s Eve, Psyche & the Bluebeard’s wife (the urban cowboy concept is boring to me), which I personally think looks better on her. That outfit Soyeon wore, the brown skirt with the green slippers was the death of fashion, where the outfits the group wore in a stage, where they had capris cut pants and pointed heels and Shuhua had a skirt and bandana, which everyone I’ve heard said it was awful, because apparently that’s not cute, despite it’s the most Y2K fashion they had and it to me looked nice, if a little over the top. I also noticed Queencard was also inspired by TV shows from the 2000’s where it has recaps and addressed the name of the show in the MVs, so I think the concept it’s supposed to be a little over the top. I also don’t mind the bags, if they don’t affect the performance and if it matches. I actually liked Newjeans’ backpacks, because they are kind of like a collectible (from OMG era), because they are made by this company and you adopt them, like Build-A-Bear. But the G-IDLE purses were silly, I’ll admit.
I don't mind tge biker shorts. Now for the backpack I highly disagree like New Jeans ate the backpack style up. Also Twice at their Seoul show with the backpacks was so cute
yeah tbf even though I'm not a big fan of the whole wearing a backpack on stage, I have to admit that newjeans absolutely OWN it and it really suits their concept! as for Twice ooh I haven't seen that, I'll search up some clips 😄
@@dearyoongi I think Newjeans’ bags looked more interesting, because they are kind of like Build-A-Bear, where you kind of adopt them. Might sound silly, but like the TY Beanie Babies from the 90’s and 2000’s, it definitely matches that collectible aspect of toys in that Y2K era. I actually wish the bubble backpack bags would reach K-Pop, the inflatable ones with the square designs (they from the late 90’s and early 2000’s and you can seem them on Lizzie McGuire), because I feel it would fit the concept is that futuristic millennium era of MVs (where it was like space fashion, kind of like Zenon and outer space music videos they had), I could see it match that esthetic.
I like the safety shorts to be honest, but sometimes I feel like they're too long for the outfit. I'm not saying I want kpop idols to be always wearing short outfits etc because I really don't, especially if they're not comfortable, but sometimes they'll be wearing short shorts with safety shorts twice the length which I just don't like.
yess thank you, I'm absolutely with you there! I'm not in any way saying that idols shouldn't be wearing safety shorts (quite the opposite, I think they're a great idea and so necessary), but when they're extra long and then paired with something extra short it's not a look I'm a fan of 🙈
I think they should get safety shorts in the colour of their outfit. Like sometimes and idol is wearing white shorts and the safety short is always black.
Ever since they first became a trend I've always disliked biker shorts, they just rarely, if ever, flatter anyone. I agree that safety shorts are absolutely necessary, but it's horrendous seeing the stylists put them in criminally short pieces that they then have to struggle to walk and dance in! I know Red Velvet's Joy had this happen to her quite a lot and it's so difficult to watch, they can still look elegant and beautiful without having to pull their clothes down every 5 seconds, wearing ridiculously long safety shorts or using a blanket to cover themselves when sitting down, it's wild!
Biker shorts are flattering if styled right, princess diana is basically the blue print. Plus they’re comfy, so it makes dancing easier for female idols
The bags with outfits looks cute when it fits the concepts but I agree, it's awkward when it just starts to affect a performance as an extra prop. Wholeheartedly agree with your other fashion takes as someone less in the know about that particular subject. 💖😉😁
I think that the shorts over trouser look in Super was actually influenced by the original tale/character that the whole concept is based on! Sonogong (also known as The Monkey King, in Chinese is referred to as Sun Wu Kong and an important character from a story called the Journey to the West) is the titular "super" hero of Super and you can see references to him through the entire song and choreo. The trousers are a call to the way he is portrayed in some stories where he wears these little tiger skin shorts (a la hercules) over his regular trousers. I didn't love the styling too when it first came out but I've come to like it and really respect the choice that was made to add just another layer of referencing to the original tale!
7:54 i loved when ATEEZ performed with huge funky backpacks during THANXX era. such memorable detail! it was fitting the concept of rebellious youthfulness.
to be honest bags/backpacks are like my favorite thing, about 3/4 of my saved fancams have shoulder bags cause they make the performance THAT much cuter for me. but of course i prefer smaller ones rather than a whole school backback, i think with smaller ones the idol's comfort isn't affected that much but the look gets a fun detail (that will also probably make me save their fancam lol)
Omg I'm so happy you made this video, bcs I've seen ppl complimenting the clothes and I'm like 🤨🤨where's THE LOOK?? where's the queen style?? where's the he/she slayed?? and I kid you not I literally ZOOMED on the SEVENTEEN's comeback because of those pants, genuinely, they're just so incredibly ugly.
omg yess thank you I'm glad somebody relates I'm the exact same, there's such a difference between an idol serving a look bc the look is actually good or it's just them 😭
This is the earliest I’ve ever been! and I already have to agree with you on the denim shorts + trousers. Like it’s so random and doesn’t look pleasing???
am i the only one who thought the reason newjeans wore biker shorts / long safety shorts under their outfits were because of how young they are? like i thought i heard somewhere it was because their still minors and with how short their outfits can be they wanted to protect them or something
I agree with everything. As expected, you truly know fashion. The other people who know nothing, saying they like it has to do with their love for the artists themselves. It’s not wrong to dislike something. One of my least favorite outfits in kpop is the NewJeans OMG stage where they wore black and white striped shirts. That was literally a crime and no one said anything. I’m more a fan of 2019-2021 fashion in kpop. That was its peak with amazing outfits. The only group that outdid every other group with fashion is IVE. Their love dive stages are absolutely top tier.
I'm honestly ok with safety shorts most of the time, but the styling in New Jean's super shy is just...... It's too much. The are literal kids and their skirts barely cover anything. It's not just bad styling it's just kinda concerning
when i saw the truouser-denim shorts it reminded me of the balenciaga jeans with the sweatpants underneath that were trending some time ago. but i find the full denim better looking than the shorts
Variations on the Canadian tuxedo a la Justin & Britney. It’s… a choice. They were iconic, but folks still doing that 😳 Most of this are likes for me. I love Idols using fusion fashion between traditional garments from their culture and modern garments. So beautiful. Fuzzy trapper hats. They are super, super cute, but it’s summer. It’s like 32C. And idk even a cute item gets played out when too many people do it. I don’t mind the short skirts and biker shots, especially because I am an eternal fan of the short shirt long boot or stocking over the knee combo. May it reign supreme. Of course, I mean for whomever is comfortable wearing it. You are in the majority for disliking the protective shorts. I just can’t see what else could be used with short skirts/dresses Without something, I couldn’t have enjoyed dresses and skirts while also liking to have movement, and not worrying what is showing. I love the gender non-conforming fashion in kpop. There shouldn’t even be such a thing, but for now I’ll give it that name. Oh yes, the teddy bear backpack. Absolutely adorable. But not practical. How many times can someone use that one item. Fun video!
thank you so much I love this comment omg (partially because you reminded me that people are still pulling the Justin & Britney aesthetic and also partially bc you made such great points)! I completely forgot about the fuzzy trapper hats! I get them, I really do, in fact I've definitely owned one in my time, but...on stage, in a studio with all those lights and equipment? they must be absolutely boiling 🙈
I prefer they wear shorts cuz most of the times it's the younger idols like Eunchae or Hyein wearing them and if it covers them up a bit more which makes them a tad bit safer from all the creepos trying to catch slipups then why not.
Im late to this video but can idols pls stop wearing this new trend of dirty looking jeans and denim 😂 Im seeing it more and more and it just looks like they have literally rolled around in dirt or havent ever washed the jeans. It doesnt look good or fashionable at all. Im talking about actual brown patches on the thigh and knee areas 😂
I’m sorry but the biker shorts trend has gotta go 😭 especially the ones where they’re peeking out the skirt or shorts, like what’s the point? It feels like we’re peeking through their skirt/shorts. It’s even worse when they let minors wear it like Eunchae for example she had a really short skirt on that just barely covered her while the biker shorts were completely out, it just looks wrong 😬
Exactly. I am also concerned because Baby Monster has a lot of under age girls and they’re making them wear those micro mini skirts. I believe the youngest one is 14. This is YG‘s fault. Yeah BLACKPINK and 2NE1 wore them, but they are grown women.
this is a concept photo from (G)I-DLE's Queencard comeback, if you type GIDLE Queencard into Google, it should come up (along with some others which are soo pretty!)
The jean thong patched leggings you showed reminded me of a more general and differnt trend I’m not fond of. It’s been going on for a while now, but it became all the rage a couple years ago, and I still see it. This is the look when the top looks like bodysuit with a high rise thong. The waist of the skirt, jeans, or trousers is far below where the high leg opening ends. You end up seeing the narrow part of fabric that would go down and be snapped at the crotch, but it’s not hidden. I don’t find this flattering. By all means work it showing the abs with a crop top or whatever. But imho this is tacky and made me wonder if there were brand deals involved because so many of them had athletic labels.
OMG YES im so glad you mentioned this actually, ever since we started seeing this everywhere I have simply not been a fan at all. like I completely understand the idea it's going for, but there's something about the way it looks that has just never really appealed to me
Number 3! My girlfriend refers to these as "skelts". It's not flattering, it's not remotely attractive, it looks daft, and I cannot imagine any idol feeling remotely comfortable dressed like that. It's not like there's rationing on, just use enough bloody fabric! Jiu in the Bonvoyage It's Live has possibly the most horrific example of this I've ever seen, with a bizarre brown too-short skirt and weird shorts that are connected to weird half legging things with suspenders. What ever that thing is called, it needs to be burned! Number 4 - Thierry Fugler - those are vile. Sorry Thierry - I'm sure your other stuff is lovely! Number 5 - Maybe they've got snacks for later - There was a running joke that one member of East 17 (if you remember them!) had a packet of crisps hidden in his hat.
Skelts omg that's so accurate! Reminds me of when I would get dressed up for a night out in a short skirt and my dad would say 'are you planning on wearing a skirt with that belt?' 🤣 I absolutely need to check out the Bon Voyage stage you mentioned, I'm curious to see how bad it was ahah! I like the snack theory 👀 that definitely makes sense, it's a good use for the bags ahah!
Are Jiu's really supposed to be safety shorts? 😭 Like I thought it made sense (a bit), with the rest of the black part of the outfit. I mean this whole bellow waist stuff looks weird but at least it's color matching lol And I think it's like leg warmers kinda with mesh or thights (idk) attached to suspenders that's she's btw wearing in the official mv + performance, the comeback stage and relay AND in the It's Live perf😭😭😭 so we're really getting this outfit everywhere
As a 04 liner I didn’t even like y2k when I was living it. I greatly despise y2k stuff and especially y2k fashion.
