  • Lets go camping! In todays video I install the Barnes4WD ‪@barnes4wd‬ Axis Bed rack in my 2001 Crew cab Chevy S10. I also install the the Thule Tapui explorer Ayer 2 Rooftop tent. Because of the small size of the bed I had to do some modifications to the rack to make it fit and make the RTT more low profile. This is the first step in getting this to the family overlander i want. Check out the Rack here: Make sure to use our coupon code for 10% off!!

You gotta do a dual electric fan swap! I used mine out of a dodge concord (the high speed ones) and used the wiring harness from a 2001 Monte Carlo. It’s a separate dis box that you can strip and use for extra fuses and wiring for lights/air compressor. It has dual speeds high and low so I used a dual temp sensor from a bmw goes on low at 92 Celsius and kicks in at high at 98 celcius. Works like a dream and will work great when I run my built 4.8L ls!!

Maybe after all that hard work on customize roof rack (lowering it) and instead of lowering it again, you could make a custom roof rack over the cab, like the Taco lower profile ones!! That would look sick...

I plan on building a roof rack, but I will have to think about that…Might be an option.

Awesome build, so why don't you build a swing out spare tire carrier bumper it seams like it would save a lot of room in the bed.

Don’t want any weight hanging off the back. And the truck is already super long.

Loving this build I had been following your Jeep for a long time collecting parts but seeing this rig build has really sparked my interest and making me think of changing directions as it would truly suit my need's a lot better. Keep it up I can't wait to see the progress and how it actually works out

What kind of spray paint do you use when painting bare steel like that?
I’m working on a project, and have been using a brush on rubberized paint, but it doesn’t seem to adhere to well to the steel.

This is powder coated from Barnes4wd. As far as paint I use rust oleum truck bed coating spray. I have used it for years, works great. There is 2 kinds, one is more rubberized and one is more paint with texture. I do NOT like the rubberized one. They have the good one at harbor freight, but they are like $12 a can.

@@MuddyBeards4X4 YUP!! The rubberized one is what I’m using, but brush on, not spray.
I got a couple cans of it, so I’m gonna use it to finish my trailer, but as it needs to be touched up I’m gonna go with the other one 👍
      Thank you

Gm made a smaller bed. The h2 SUT had a bed 47 inches wide and only 37 inches from cab to tailgate. Could be worse 😂

I loved your tj, well till you swapped in a slush box (i kid i kid, i know its a crawler 😂) but with a family a small foot print crew cab truck with a bed has to be a life saver. No way the tj could have taken the whole family with you. Keep it up kelly.

Coming together really nice! I saw a truck last night that looked like yours but looked bright red in the headlights. Prob not yours since I'm out by Mt.hood.

You can get rid of the aluminum cross bars and bolt directly to the for/aft Axis bars (the ones you welded). This will buy you another inch lower.

Love following this build! Quick question from an armchair QB. Could you move the tent to the back of the bed and mount the tire vertically in front of it to save room? If you need it roll it out from between the tent and cab over the bed side?

    • @MuddyBeards4X4
      @MuddyBeards4X4  Год назад

That was also an option. But not only does it need to function, but it has to look good doing it, lol. Moving the rack and tent back would throw the weight and looks off. It just looked not quite right.
