    I'm convinced that Deva Cuts aren't meant for most Afro textured hair lmao... either that or there's wayyyy too many inexperienced Deva Cut stylists out there because u are one of NUMEROUS folks who had a bad Deva Cut experience

    • @melaninmissy4533
      @melaninmissy4533  7 лет назад

      That may be true; I've seen just as many bad experiences as good ones. I did like my cut results at Shai more so than the cut at the Curl Collective in Chicago. I feel like he didn't take too much off and its grew out in a pretty shape.

    Piece of advice from a professional stylist always speak up unfortunately not everyone can read body language or non verbals! Bring pictures of your best styled hair and ask for that look!! Always be specific!

    I did the Deva cut and I could and should have did it myself... I left the salon looking like SHIT! As coily curlys it seems to me like we know more than most Deva Certified beauticians.... We need to build our confidence and give ourselves credit where its definitely due....

    I’ve had 2 Devacuts by a trained stylist in West Hollywood, CA and mine was deep conditioned. The first Devacut mine wasn’t very defined but the next Deva cut it was defined. I have very dry 4C hair and my 2nd cut was 4mos. later.

      What salon and stylist did you use?

  • @ThatDoll25
    @ThatDoll25 6 лет назад +2

    Prefacing this by saying I’ve never had a deva cut, but have been researching because I’m interested in getting one. In most of the reviews I’ve watched. Type 4 girls leave deva salons with an awesome cut, but hair that is dry af. This leads me to believe the technique and knowledge of the stylists is there, but deva curl products are not made for type 4 girls. This likely explains your experience as well, because the shape of your hair looks amazing in this vid.

      Right, Type 4's need moisture. Type 4's need the LOC or LCO method. If I ever get a DEVA cut. I'm going to find a black stylist to do it.

    The issue with DevaCuts is they cut your hair in a wash n go but BW usually style it in a twist out or stretched. It’ll never look the same as when they cut it.

    The stylist who does my hair is at her own salon but is Devacut trained, the first time she used all Deva products, the 2nd time she used a different cleansing and conditioning line plus Uncle Funkys Daughter Curly Magic which really defined my curls. Sometimes it’s just the products, your cut looked really good but I know how expensive Deva cuts are so I understand your disappointment.

    My curly loves, if your in the Los Angeles area, get your devacut and color with the girls who use to work at devachan in Culver City before it closed. Donatela does the devacuts and is amazing! Check her out on instagram at donateladevacurl! Ezzy does color using pintura painting on your curls and is so much healthier! Check is out her instagram at ezzycolordevacurl. They work at salon republic in Beverly hill. When I was desperate trying to find a salon that does deva cuts, I went with them! So much better then spending 250 for a cut! Donatela and Ezzy are soooooo much more reasonable and are much better in my opinion.

    I am from Chicago. If this is the same Daria that worked at the Huetiful Salon, I would run! She ruined my hair years ago. It was the worst haircut I had ever received. I would look into Lanetta at Callys' Curls and Co., or Star atThe Curl Whisperer Chicago.

      Shai Amiel sorry, but I disagree with the latter part, while I know you know how to work with curls and coils, your assistant obviously needs more experience with tighter coils. Especially if the client goes home and gets better results using cheaper products

    • @TULIP.1689
      @TULIP.1689 7 лет назад +1

      Shai Amiel it’s great that you don’t seem to micromanage your assistants as it would create an awful atmosphere but to have this woman walking around with hair that is dry and lifeless is not acceptable...especially after the products are supposed to be so great.
      What I don’t understand is the reasoning as to why the stylist wouldn’t have deep conditioned this woman’s hair after it was supposed to be so very dry. Perhaps the stylist (who sounds like a straight haired lady) applied her own logic and preferences to this client...as opposed to looking at the hair and truly observing how it’s reacting to things. The deep conditioner should have been used to put the moisture and nutrition back into the hair. And that wouldn’t have created a layer on the hair as it would be rinsed off.
      If buildup is the problem, why not use a stronger shampoo? If the shampoo does in fact cleanse, that should take the excess buildup off of the hair. Your answer may be “you need to do it overtime, you don’t want to strip the hair all at once”....but why wouldn’t you give your clients a fresh start at the salon? Why wouldn’t a shampoo adequately clean hair? Even if the hair is stripped with either more applications of shampoo or a stronger product, moisture levels should return throughout the conditioning process...because your veeeery expensive products are so wonderful...right...?...And why does it seem as though Afro textured women are the only ones walking out with this problem?
      Another issue that indicates that your assistant doesn’t understand how Afro type hair works(other than improperly and ineffectual product application of product) is that she put this woman under a dryer with absolutely no curl definition and then went on to diffuse it as if she knew the results would magically work in her favor...and then in the end for this young lady to have flown out and spent all this money to be told...oh your products just suck so you only have to use mine forever...I hope it’s understood why This and other videos of This nature are being created.
      Also...if she had soooo much buildup...if her hair was soooo dry. Did you (or your assistant) set the proper expectations as to what her end result may be? Because you are performing a high end service that you knew she went way out of her way to get. She had a mental image of what was going to happen when she walked out.
      Mr. Ariel you seem diligent, caring and passionate about your craft...this cut is beautiful but really...even if you have to take your staff in for some kind of additional training, have a talk with them privately this is a clear blind spot and if it’s built up it will only be to your advantage.

      Shai Amiel whistle I do agree with the others that there was still something to desire in terms of styling, in your defence, she was visiting you for a cut, she’s paying you for shape, the styling comes second and is included with the cut, the styling also is temporary, and the cut lasts for months. there Is no possible way to style every head of coils perfectly first time because unlike straight hair, curls are all very different, even on the same head of hair and there are multiple ways to style one head, so not everyone will be happy. In the age of the internet, there will always be someone click-baiting for attention. We all know Lorraine was and is the queen of curls, an innovator in our field, but had she retired a half dozen years later than she did, I am 100% certain she’d have videos like this blasting her. Show your assistant this video, not to tell her off, but just as feedback, so she can have a look back and think about if she could have done something different. You just keep doing what you do, changing one head of curls at a time 👍

    Not all stylist professionals can give a good Cut, Color, and Style. Let alone a good Wash. They just dont 😆. I've been in the business for years. And thats just a fact. You should know this truth.
    At times the style can be awfully bad yet the cut can be on point A++( 👀 look im punny.) I've seen it.
    You might have to go to different stylists for a different specialty keep your stylist informed.
    After the next day & someone (you?) styled the hair. I must let you know you and your style looks lovely.
    P.s. Variety in modalities is a good thing its our fault.

      really? The cut was good as I stated in the video. However, the styling (curl definition and dryness) of my hair as seen in the very first clip and pictures was horrible. If that is how you like your hair to look after being styled and paying $300+ then by all means have at it. I feel as though a twist out would have been better for definition or some other products. Like i stated the assistant who did my hair did bigs sections and didn't use enough moisturizer for my hair texture so it came out dry and definition less. But Yes cut good, styling was a no go. Thanks for watching and commenting love!

    From what I see of your hair now and the finished styling step at the salon, I would think that not deep conditioning your hair was one of the problems and the major problem was styling in big sections. I have super dense hair and I MUST add styling products in small sections. I use products that are on the more watery side so that helps some but I can open up a section of hair and have not a drop of product on there because I have a lot of hair. I had a similar experience where the stylist tried doing rake and shake in larger sections and it was a hot mess. Lesson learned and I will always speak up because I know my hair now.

    • @melaninmissy4533
      @melaninmissy4533  7 лет назад +1

      yep I believe that deep conditioning would have made a difference and styling in smaller sections. What styling products do you use? and yes!! I know to speak up now. Thank you soo much for commenting!

    • @GaDiva769
      @GaDiva769 7 лет назад

      I use Donna Marie Dream Curl Pudding and Donna Marie Hair Whip as my leave in (it's more of a lotion and not as thick as other leave ins). I think as long as the conditioner you are using works for your hair, you're fine, it's more so the application technique.

    Dam at first I thought "good on you for taking the high road". But after hearing that you spent thousands to be there, and the fact that a lot of people do the same, he could of offered you another cut or something in a few months. Or even more free products, or something for more assurance. He saw you were upset but just sent you on your way and pushed the diva product further. Your hair looks gorgeous now tho 😊

    I went to the Salon of Curls in Venice, Ca. (Santa Monica area)Kym was the stylist .... she came highly recommended.But she doesn't know anything about 4 type curls and low porosity hair.She can cut and style wavy and 3 curl types curlies, I think! Lol .But she is a real Know it All.$167.000 is what she charged me. She had her assistant call me that evening,after I left the salon, to ask me to come back to fix my hair! She knew she messed up my hair. It looked
    better before I went in.......Not Good....lol I can laugh now, because I learned how to cut and style my own hair.For A long time I didn't say the salon or stylist name, but now I feel it is best to share and spare follow naturals the grief and expense of a bad hair experience.

    No! No no no no no 😒 That was a hot damn mess. If she didn't know what she was doing she should've asked someone. For that price they should've had some bad ass stylist working there or his ass needs to be cutting and styling every head that comes through. There's no excuse to charge that much money but have people leaving with dry hair

    • @melaninmissy4533
      @melaninmissy4533  7 лет назад

      That is very true even the stylist should know how to do their job exceptionally well for the price he was charging for all hair textures. I also don't feel like they should've let me leave the salon knowing that i was unhappy without offer a lower price or restyling or something
