For reading books in a foreign language, I NEVER look up words.... well, almost never. If you feel like you aren't understanding what's going on because you don't know one word, then look it up. But I don't write it down, I just look it up, then keep reading. Because ultimately writing down the words you don't know will slow down the process and you will enjoy the book less. Reading with the audiobook can be helpful as well! For more beginners, the audiobook would definitely be great help to remember pronunciation, but if you are advanced and don't want to, then it's not necessary. Good luck with your goals!
I agree partially. I would say that it depends on your level. If you are at a A1-B2 in a language, then I'd highly advise against writing down all the unknown words because it forestalls the rhythm. However, if you are at a B2-C2 level and find new words in a book, do write them down. At least in my experience this has proven as beneficial. Currently I'm reading a book where there's 0 to 1 unknown word per page on average. The book has 200 pages thus eventually by writing the words down, I'll be able to incorporate many of these new words into active vocabulary, and without a doubt 200 in my passive vocab. Because if I hadn't written them down, I would have most likely just obliterate them from my short-term memory.

And if the word is really useful it appears in many where and many times that you’ll probably get the meaning and usage by yourself~ btw love your videos 🤍 they are inspiring and help a lot :D
For the language learning in Spanish, I like to read a chapter and then imagine I'm talking to someone and trying to explain it. That way you are forced to learn new vocab with old vocabulary to keep expanding your ability to understand something and communicate that understanding (or lack of understanding). Those questions will also probably keep pushing you to learn other words and concepts in that language! Hope that helps!

so glad to see you talking about summer goals! in regard to the reading books things i personally check out the meaning of words if i encounter a word too many times and i can't make sense what it means. otherwise, just like you said, reading book can be tedious and take away the pleasure of just reading.

I’m Russian who is trying to level up my English, so I picked up “1984” by George Orwell for my summer reading. I have B2, so I’m really capable of understanding the vast majority of the words and grammar construction, but there are of course some stuff that I have to translate, so I just find words that I don’t know and write the translation above them and keep reading. It’s quite quick to get used to, it doesn’t take much time from understanding what’s the book about too. And in future, if you want to review some stuff, you can do it whenever you want. Hope I helped a little ✨ In addition, I’d like to say that I really like your vids🌟 keep doing you’re amazing💛

It's very refreshing to see these kind of videos, as school is finally over for almost everyone as well as uni, it's the perfect time for relaxation and summer goals. Watching the video about your goals really inspires me to do something with my summer although I got my plate full with IELTS and SAT, I'm still gonna try to jam some extra goals, you probably hear this a lot, but I do wanna say that your videos and how you express yourself in them and not to mention how you've matured over the years really shows how crazy fast time is flying and in order to succeed in life you don't have to shy away from working, so thanks Anna for being there for all of us and doing what you do in general 🤗❤️ Edit: I would personally look up the word and then continue reading, cause if you constantly stop to write down the word that makes reading as you said tedious, makes it more of a chore rather than an enjoyment. It's even better if you're able to try to find the meaning of the word in context. In other words try to understand the meaning of the word by looking at the sentence instead of looking up the meaning. From personal experience, that helps a lot to reinforce your language learning skills. But if you can't find the meaning of the word then juts look it up in Google. Hope that helped 😃
My goals for the summer: ` Finish 'Advance Grammar in Use' - 25 units to go, yayyy ` Learn 50 new English words per week (isn't my first language, obviously) ` Exercise 4-5 times a week ` Go out for strolls more often (!) ` Read a chapter from the book daily + take notes from it to Notion two times a week so far I pretty succeed with them :) and I wish everyone good luck who've read to this point!
Personally what I do whenever I’m reading Harry Potter in French is that I highlight some of the words that I don’t know and I will come back to them when I finish the book.
as for reading, i usually look up the meaning of words only in case i don't understand the context or i know that the word is used by native speakers in daily conversations. there is no point in writing down every single unknown word you see, this way reading a book will make you tired really fast, so just choose the words that you think are most often used and you're able to learn them (and not forget the other day u know) and also choose the words that YOU will use. since i study at the faculty of foreign languages i have no other choice but to learn the words i write down bc it's a monthly task lol but it's really useful !
About the vocab thing you said while reading books what i usually do is that i highlight the words I don't know but continue reading the book after I've finished the book i go back and look up the words this way i can come back and study them again also i pay more attention to reading while also enjoying it.
I'm a portuguese speaker and I like your videos a lot, and even started to use notion because of you. it's also helping me to improve my english. Thank u so much!!
It's winter in my country right now, and we're still in quarantine so I can't go out and see my friends. So mostly of my goals are: read more books, watch more movies and study english and spanish. Nothing so incredible 🤣🤣
Hi I'm language learner too! I always just keep reading, but before, i read in translated version(in my first language) and read English after. It literally helps me a lot
Hi Anna! My recommendation about looking out for every word or not is to NOT do it unless you know that that book is very important for you (f.e. book related to your career ). Keep in mind that if a word is useful it will appear repeadtly times, but if it´s not you will no longer see it and there´s no necessity to have learned it. Hope this helps!! sending you the best vibes uwu teamoo
Was here for ur Year goals. Ur motivation is contagious and while it doesn't last long for me, it makes me feel like I'm in the right mindset even if it's only for a bit :] So yeah thx
About reading, I'm actually reading English books to improve my English -cuz it's only my fourth language- and when I read I read for fun, I read to run away, to escape from "school work", so I just look at the definition quickly and continue reading.
thats crazy we literally have one of the same goals haha !! one thing i want to do over the summer is sort out my spotify playlists into 'mood' playlists etc. i also just want to entirely revamp my bedroom, read minimum 6 books over the summer, learn part of either french or korean, organise all my school notes for my final year of alevels .. theres a few more but thats the general gist :))
I personally developed a technique for reading books in foreign languages. I use iBooks and highlight words or phrases that I don’t know using different colors depending on the category of this word or phrase (basic, sophisticated, collocations and idioms). Then I finish reading I do separate vocabulary lists and learn them focusing more on basic words and collocations because they are obviously more useful🙂 ( I am a native Russian speaker, so I use this method for books in English)
@@AnnaLenkovska that’s so awesome you’ve seen them!! they are hard for me to watch but totally worth it. I’ve learnt so much from them and the documentary Earthlings.

When I come across a word I don’t understand in french I normally just google the meaning and move on…a lot of the time I actually find I remember the word when I come across it again in the future! Good luck💖
I am always just looking up the meaning and thats it, usually the words tend to repeat in the book and you will just pick them as you go on 🙈 good luck! 😇
about language learning and books, if you don't mind defacing your books, underline the words you don't know and then the next day look them up and write them down OR look them up as you read AND underline then check the next day if you remember, if not then take it down! hope that helps :)
As a Spanish speaker who stared learning English being 3 , I really recommend you to write the words you don't understand in a paper and when you finish a chapter o whatever you want to read today look or it on a dictionary. because maybe if you continue reading you can understand the meaning of the word without stopping to look for it. it worked for me and actually I speak 3 languages fluently.
Italian learner here 👋 I've also started taking down every vocab, but got demoralised very quickly, because I set myself under pressure to learn all the new words. In the end, I decided to just look up the word and keep going. Also thanks for the advice to read foreign languages on a kindle, I didn't know you could look up the words there
my goals: - learn more russian (im 1/4 Belarusian and my russian sucks right now) - drink more water - less sugar intake and more from natural sweet sources (like fruits)
About learning language with books, I like to take note of the words that I don’t know in a notebook (just the world whit out the meaning because I can look again later to put on flash cards or what ever the way I’m studying), but I do this just when I am in the mood to do it, mostly I just read whit out worrying myself because I read more for fun
Reading was a problem with me too..like u said anna: i don't have the reading speed capacity... it's because this used to happen with me too but then I started reading a lot and gradually my speed became fast...so your not the only one...love u...stay blessed...
Suerte!❤️
My goal is 1 daily meditation 2 work out 3 general study 4reading books 5 dance 6 writing story drama 7 learning coding 8 trying to improve focus on Spanish
My goals for this summer (~14 weeks) - Improve English and prepare for an English exam which I'll take in September (if I'll pass it, I'll get into special program at my uni) - Don't get fired from my summer job - Watch more musicals (I haven't watched most of the classics, I don't know why) - Finish my video game design course - Finish reading level design textbook (which I bought on sale few months ago but I haven't started reading it until now) - Finish my short novel / fanfiction - Maybe I'll do it "writing for video games" course on edx but I don't know yet - And also maybe I'll try to learn some songs on ukulele but I need to buy it first
When u read a book or anything ..u don't have to translate every single word that u don't understand bcz my teacher said that's not professional and u may lose focusing ! U're my inspiration ✨✨love u ❤️
For me, I used to "pick up every new word while reading" but it ended up being a chore 'cus I couldn't enjoy the book. so now instead I just look up words that make me curious or reoccurring. if I notice myself falling into the checking everything; I stop myself and keep reading normally.♥ Great video btw, you made me want to make my goals too!
uh, when reading books in English i usually write down the words that i don’t know and look them up later to study them, unless it’s something that is important and always mentioned. there are also many great books that often come with like a glossary in the end, with the most rare words that u might not know :)
I wanted to reply about reading a book for language learning purposes. I used to write down all the vocab, but then noticed that, i was getting bored really fast. So i found the solution that works for me. For example, i am reading "Shadow and bone" and there is a word that i can not understand, i will look it up immediately and than screenshot the meaning. In that case, i continue reading, do not get bored, more invested in the story and in the end of the reading session i am not "losing" the vocabs i did not know earlier. Thank you for a nice and motivating video.
I used to take down the words that are the most common in the text or the context of which are the most interesting because you really memorise words better if their contexts appeal to you So the goal is to choose the easiest words
guess I’m 1year late to the party but when I read foreign books I try to guess the meaning of the words I don’t know through context, but I always try to look it up, after a little guessing-game, though I never write because I know I’ll never look at it again. It all ultimately builds up to a stronger knowledge of the language when you recognise it in other places and start realising all the different ways it can be used in a sentence. I like that slow process, it thrills me every time I get that eureka! moment
since I filmed this video I also added 2 more goals!

Hope I helped a little ✨
In addition, I’d like to say that I really like your vids🌟 keep doing you’re amazing💛
Привет! Я учусь русский язык и знаю английский язык B2 level. Я не знаю если бы вы хотите но я думаю что мы можем помогать другу чтобы развивать наши языки.

Is noone gonna talk about how absolutely drop dead gorgeous lenks is😍 gurll growing prettier each dday
about the vocab question, what i usually do is keep reading even if i dont know the word but if i see it repeats a lot then ill look it up
It's very refreshing to see these kind of videos, as school is finally over for almost everyone as well as uni, it's the perfect time for relaxation and summer goals. Watching the video about your goals really inspires me to do something with my summer although I got my plate full with IELTS and SAT, I'm still gonna try to jam some extra goals, you probably hear this a lot, but I do wanna say that your videos and how you express yourself in them and not to mention how you've matured over the years really shows how crazy fast time is flying and in order to succeed in life you don't have to shy away from working, so thanks Anna for being there for all of us and doing what you do in general 🤗❤️
Edit: I would personally look up the word and then continue reading, cause if you constantly stop to write down the word that makes reading as you said tedious, makes it more of a chore rather than an enjoyment.
My goals for the summer:
` Finish 'Advance Grammar in Use' - 25 units to go, yayyy
` Learn 50 new English words per week (isn't my first language, obviously)
` Exercise 4-5 times a week
` Go out for strolls more often (!)
` Read a chapter from the book daily + take notes from it to Notion two times a week
so far I pretty succeed with them :)
and I wish everyone good luck who've read to this point!
Watching you since 35k can't believe your channel has growni remmember watching your study videos and they were so motivating
Personally what I do whenever I’m reading Harry Potter in French is that I highlight some of the words that I don’t know and I will come back to them when I finish the book.
Give me those Italian learning vlogs!!!!
as for reading, i usually look up the meaning of words only in case i don't understand the context or i know that the word is used by native speakers in daily conversations. there is no point in writing down every single unknown word you see, this way reading a book will make you tired really fast, so just choose the words that you think are most often used and you're able to learn them (and not forget the other day u know) and also choose the words that YOU will use. since i study at the faculty of foreign languages i have no other choice but to learn the words i write down bc it's a monthly task lol but it's really useful !
I love when Anna spoke in spanish 🤩🤩 The same thing happens to me when I try to read books in English, I underline at least 10 words per page😂
The editing is so good 😍😍
Hi I'm language learner too! I always just keep reading, but before, i read in translated version(in my first language) and read English after. It literally helps me a lot
she looks so pretty with black hair !
It's been 3 weeks until my holiday start and you just motivation me to have a goals .
Hi Anna! My recommendation about looking out for every word or not is to NOT do it unless you know that that book is very important for you (f.e. book related to your career ). Keep in mind that if a word is useful it will appear repeadtly times, but if it´s not you will no longer see it and there´s no necessity to have learned it.
Hope this helps!! sending you the best vibes uwu
teamoo
Was here for ur Year goals. Ur motivation is contagious and while it doesn't last long for me, it makes me feel like I'm in the right mindset even if it's only for a bit :] So yeah thx
te veo radiante en este video, no sé por que, pero es como un brillo diferente. amor eterno a estos videos
Then I finish reading I do separate vocabulary lists and learn them focusing more on basic words and collocations because they are obviously more useful🙂 ( I am a native Russian speaker, so I use this method for books in English)
you should add seaspircy and cowspiracy to your documentary list if u haven't already seen them. :)
yesss Ive seen them and they’re so mindblowing when you watch them for the first time!!
@@AnnaLenkovska that’s so awesome you’ve seen them!! they are hard for me to watch but totally worth it. I’ve learnt so much from them and the documentary Earthlings.
She is soo beautiful
Like you are the most gorgeous person in this world

When I come across a word I don’t understand in french I normally just google the meaning and move on…a lot of the time I actually find I remember the word when I come across it again in the future! Good luck💖
I have to say this you look ✨GORGEOUS✨
My goals for summer
1.learning a new language
2.doing daily meditation
3.working on my English(becouse Im going to take IELTS exam)
4.Walking more
Good luck! ^^
Thanks a lot
Good luck on your studies tooo
I am always just looking up the meaning and thats it, usually the words tend to repeat in the book and you will just pick them as you go on 🙈 good luck! 😇
about language learning and books, if you don't mind defacing your books, underline the words you don't know and then the next day look them up and write them down OR look them up as you read AND underline then check the next day if you remember, if not then take it down! hope that helps :)
Ah, I love it when I have something in common with the bloggers I watch, love u Anna)))
Also thanks for the advice to read foreign languages on a kindle, I didn't know you could look up the words there
YOURE LITERALLY GLOWING!!!
my goals:
- learn more russian (im 1/4 Belarusian and my russian sucks right now)
- drink more water
- less sugar intake and more from natural sweet sources (like fruits)
♥️♥️♥️
About learning language with books, I like to take note of the words that I don’t know in a notebook (just the world whit out the meaning because I can look again later to put on flash cards or what ever the way I’m studying), but I do this just when I am in the mood to do it, mostly I just read whit out worrying myself because I read more for fun
the editing on this video 🤩🤩🤩
Yes to Italian learning vlogs
Reading was a problem with me too..like u said anna: i don't have the reading speed capacity... it's because this used to happen with me too but then I started reading a lot and gradually my speed became fast...so your not the only one...love u...stay blessed...
YEEAAAHHH
Yes to Italian learning vlogs ! 🙌❤️
Suerte!❤️
My goal is 1 daily meditation 2 work out 3 general study 4reading books 5 dance 6 writing story drama 7 learning coding 8 trying to improve focus on Spanish
THAT thumbnail is GORG AF WHAT I CANT THAT TATTOOOOOO
I wanna be friends with Anna, she seems like such a fun person and conversations with her seem endless 💞💞
This look fits you so well !
My goals for this summer (~14 weeks)
- Improve English and prepare for an English exam which I'll take in September (if I'll pass it, I'll get into special program at my uni)
- Don't get fired from my summer job
- Watch more musicals (I haven't watched most of the classics, I don't know why)
- Finish my video game design course
- Finish reading level design textbook (which I bought on sale few months ago but I haven't started reading it until now)
- Finish my short novel / fanfiction
- Maybe I'll do it "writing for video games" course on edx but I don't know yet
- And also maybe I'll try to learn some songs on ukulele but I need to buy it first
Just the cover is really a aesthetic
*everything about anna is beautiful*
I am reading in Arabic as a French speaker and ig I had to write everything it'd take ages. Only take the vocab that strucks you a lot while reading
I am watching your videos for ages from india , lots of warm blessings to you .
When u read a book or anything ..u don't have to translate every single word that u don't understand bcz my teacher said that's not professional and u may lose focusing ! U're my inspiration ✨✨love u ❤️
For me, I used to "pick up every new word while reading" but it ended up being a chore 'cus I couldn't enjoy the book. so now instead I just look up words that make me curious or reoccurring. if I notice myself falling into the checking everything; I stop myself and keep reading normally.♥
Great video btw, you made me want to make my goals too!
uh, when reading books in English i usually write down the words that i don’t know and look them up later to study them, unless it’s something that is important and always mentioned. there are also many great books that often come with like a glossary in the end, with the most rare words that u might not know :)
I used to take down the words that are the most common in the text or the context of which are the most interesting because you really memorise words better if their contexts appeal to you
So the goal is to choose the easiest words
you are literally stunning❤️🔥 and also I love the motivation that she gives us✌🏼
Ann, you are a very purposeful girl, I wish you good luck in achieving your goals!!!
It’s nice to hear you want to learn Italian since I myself am Italian!! 🇮🇹❤️
Just here after a sec it got uploaded✌
guess I’m 1year late to the party but when I read foreign books I try to guess the meaning of the words I don’t know through context, but I always try to look it up, after a little guessing-game, though I never write because I know I’ll never look at it again. It all ultimately builds up to a stronger knowledge of the language when you recognise it in other places and start realising all the different ways it can be used in a sentence. I like that slow process, it thrills me every time I get that eureka! moment
