This isn't the first time either. In another episode where she was overly competitive at everything, they all played a board game where she couldn't win, which backfired and caused her to be a sore loser until everyone let her win again.

As someone currently trapped in a toxic home and family life; what Lincoln goes through in this episode, though exaggerated, hits a little too close to home for comfort. What infuriates me is that the episode seems to be under the impression that he deserves it.

Half of his sisters SUCK too, while the rest are just OK.
      The lame ones:
      1. The smart one (I refuse to remember their names) usually just says lines that have nothing to do with what's going on, like the episode where someone asks what you would do on a ship wreck and says says "look at the moss on trees" or something... even though there would BE no moss on a boat, or trees (seriously, what a dumb answer). She's pro-experiments on people. She's basically Sandy Cheeks at her worst, with the gullibility of the town of Bikini Bottom.
      2. That April fools cow. You know the one. She gets away with murder and everyone acts like it's Lincoln's fault. She also has the WORST sense of humour of anyone in the show. In what world is destroying everyone's stuff, funny?
      3. That sporty cow. Yeah, she's going to get arrested for harassing *insert someone here*.
      4. The dumb one. I haven't seen anything past season 1, but I already don't like her for being dumber than a four-year-old.
      5. The parents. I guarantee half of Lincoln's sisters will grow up into Karens and Lincoln will reflect back on his past and divorce his whole family.
      The OK ones:
      1. The goth one. I haven't seen any episodes featuring her, so when she's not a part of the "hate Lincoln" hivemind, she's a OK background character.
      2. The one who's on the phone the whole time. Again, I haven't really seen any episodes featuring her.
      3. The tomboy twin. Same.
      4. The princess twin. Honestly thought I would have hated her the most, but since she's not the most flanderized Karen of a character, she's one of my favourites.
      5. The baby.
      6. The fake Brit. She's also OK.

This is one episode I predicted to be bad at the first time hearing about it. But I didn’t knew how UNPLEASANT this episode really turned out. I feel like the worst episodes of the show are the ones who are turning against Lincoln.
Interestingly, I think such a premise could work going into a different direction. If they want to make an episode about bad luck, why not involving Lucy? How about Lincoln using a cursed bracelet of Lucy and the family try to help him? It’s much more believable than Lynn feeding up the family with her own delusional beliefs. And while I don’t hate Lynn as much as other people, I can definitely see why people don’t like her.
And let’s just say, season 5 despite taking a risk, really didn’t handle the change very well, ESPECIALLY with Lynn.

The thing about Timmy is that his parent's are established to be idiot's early on by hiring someone clearly not suited to watch they're child. They did ramp it up too much later on in the series, but you got the basic gist of these character's off the bat.
This is his ENTIRE FAMILY turning against him. Every, Single, One. Even the Intelligent one. This is what happens when you put the Joke Before the Logic.
And the funny thing is, the premise Could have worked if you did capitalize on the the fact that the family was split on weather he was unlucky or not. (okay clearly that wasn't the main problem, but it would have atleast made it a little better)

    • @papershadow
      @papershadow 2 года назад +19

Another important facet to Timmy's parents in the good FoP seasons was that idiocy was the extent of their bad character traits. Several episodes show that if they found out Vicky was doing wrong as a babysitter they would fire her, and S1 has episodes showing Vicky is clearly concerned about that prospect. Timmy's parents when written well love their son but are not aware of the bad decision they made with his babysitter (and in their defense Vicky took a lot more effort to keep it hidden from them in said better instances)
The Louds by comparison are not depicted as being particularly blind to reality or the consequences of their actions: the only not-very-intelligent one is Leni, who while Ditzy is also the nicest of the Louds and would sooner board Lincoln up in a bunker over a superstition than throw him out of the house. This is wildly out of character for most of them and goes against the level of cartoony vs grounded the show did best, especially when the parents are in on it despite generally being the straight-man to the kids, or at the very least had a more grounded motive/cause behind their more over the top antics.

I'm surprised Enter didn't mention the parents selling all Lincoln's furniture or the family only believing he's good luck in a mascot suit. Also if he really hates Lynn I cannot wait to see him review Sitting Bull or Lynn-er Takes All, two of her worst episodes outside of No Such Luck. In fact a lot of post Season 2 episodes have an episode where each sister is at their worst, expect Lori and Lola (the former because she's barely on the show post Season 4 and her worst episodes were in the show's good seasons and the latter for being one of the few okay characters in the show's Seasonal Rot). And while Lincoln is far from an innocent angel and can be a jerkass too, I find more often his sisters are even worse jerks than Lincoln when they are the ones teamed up against him and the parents too. Lynn might be one of the worst characters in any modern media and as a former watcher of this show, I can't wait to see you rip it to shreds.
What also makes this episode worse is that there's a Season 3 episode that reveals the family lies to each other to get out of doing things all the time, Lori doing it for the most frivolous reason. Yet, Lincoln doing it apparently causes World War 3 to his family. Don't you love when future episodes make characters MASSIVE hypocrites?

Speaking of hypocritical, while I don't watch the show, someone pointed out the sisters laughed at Lincoln for not knowing much about girls in girl guru but in a later episode of Lucy getting a crush on a boy, the girls hardly know anything about boys. Also, they agree to apparently to accept each other's bad habits, yet the girls laugh at Lincoln for liking comics and supposedly pony princess which they would have done to Lucy if they found out the book belongs to her. One of them was "What Is A Person Worth" which basically shows the aftermath of the episode where the family still treats Lincoln like he's bad luck and forces him to wear the squirrel suit all the time, even though it causes problems in his life and their behavior just gets worse and worse until Lincoln gets fed up and calls them all out on how badly they treat him, not just in that episode but in others. When you get down to the gist of this episode it sends the message that you deserve to be mentally abused and physically neglected for TELLING A LIE. It also sends the message that if you want time for yourself when you are a member of a 13 person family, you do not have the right to alone-time, you are obligated, no questions asked, to dedicate ALL YOUR TIME to the rest of your relatives.
Bottom gist line, if you tell a lie in a huge family, you deserve ANY punishment you receive, which is a HORRIBLE MESSAGE, no matter how you look at it.
The message I got from this episode of The Loud House is that telling a lie is a far greater crime then threatening one of your relatives, neglecting a family member to the point of abandoning them to the streets, and verbally abusing a relative by constantly telling said relative he or she is the source of all the misfortunes in your life. This is not comedy, its pathetic.

He literally admits to lying about being bad luck and the family doesn't believe him. If they were doing it to teach him a lesson about lying, that would make more sense. It still wouldn't make the episode good, but at least it ties in with the original premise: Lincoln coming up with a lie (which Lynn encouraged) so he could get more time to himself.
It literally feels like the episode forgot about why Lincoln lied and just ran with the idea of him being bad luck, without bringing things to their natural conclusion by having the characters actually learn something.

Milo Murphy's Law begun airing in the same year as The Loud House. From 2016 to 2019, there have been two seasons (over 70 separate stories) about a boy who has to deal with bad luck because he was born with it, just like his father, his grandfather, and all the male ancestors before him. Milo is generally liked: even with some people regarding him with disdain, most of them only try to keep a safe distance. In fact, aside from his family, Milo can also trust Melissa, who is his best friend since first grade, and Zack, who became his best friend in the first episode, as well as Cavendish and Dakota (the former having to warm up to him), Amanda (his crush who went from being afraid of Murphy's Law to being head over heels for him), and Doofenshmirtz and Perry (from Phineas and Ferb, the former having to live with Milo in Season 2). All in all, Milo is generally being well-liked by his community in spite of his bad luck.
That's the exact opposite of what Lincoln has to go through in this one episode, who gets ousted by his whole family just because ONE sister is superstitious. Sure, one can say it's Lincoln's own fault for playing along because he wanted some alone time, but as I stated before, there's a WHOLE SHOW out there in which a lot of family, friends, and outsiders treat the character with bad luck with WAY more respect, so the rest of the Louds have no excuse. It doesn't even get resolved quite right: Lincoln shows up at the next game, disguised as a mascot, in order to prove to the whole family that he has no bad luck (yes, he has to show up to PROVE HIMSELF because the family doesn't believe him, despite the fact that they easily believe he has bad luck when that was clearly acted). Lynn's team wins the game, but the family STILL thinks Lincoln has bad luck. Somehow! They think the team has won because they believe the mascot costume Lincoln has worn _cancels out_ his bad luck, so now Lincoln has to wear that costume everywhere. What the hell? How can a whole family, which includes smart people that AREN'T superstitious, be suddenly EXTREMELY superstitious like that, to the point that they can't even admit that Lincoln has no bad luck even after he has proven it?!

Of course, Not only does Lincoln become a Pokemon Trainer, he actually has hilariously good luck while in Kanto, and Lyn gets Bad Luck later on.

Lastly other characters who are bad luck like Eguine, Samsom , Donald Duck and Milo dudnt get treated like the plague and there bad luck ONLY affects them same with good. Ex when Samson got Lazlos good luck he got soda from a vender with cement and shared instead of hogging it so luck rather is good ir bad is only for that person and they can choose to share.

Season 3 still probably has my favorite episode in "Head Poet's Anxiety" because I appreciate the particular sisters it focuses on in Luan and Lucy. Luan, compared to Lynn, is a character I hate at her worst but really enjoy at her best, and this episode shows the latter because she's giving legitimately good guidance to Lucy for something she knows, while the conflict isn't something she tries to instigate (bad though she is at hiding it she never tries to discourage or interfere with Lucy's poetry reading at the theater). I find it a good show of the ups and downs of Sibling relationships, how the older sibling can be a role model while still being immature themselves with emotions like jealousy to grapple with against a real desire to do good for their family.
That's the big thing I feel the show lost over time for me: even at its most mundane, the Louds were still a cartoony look at family dynamics both good and bad. Later episodes not only have weak writing, but just kind of treat them as "a cast" rather than a family, something on exacerbated by more episodes focusing on one or two members of the house interacting with people outside the family like Lincoln and his School crew, Lori's High School/College Clique, Lucy's Poetry club, etc.

heres how the episode should have gone: have some of the characters believe that lincoln really is bad luck, but have the smarter ones like lori, lisa and the parents know full well that its all balderdash. they then formulate a plan to get lincoln to admit it by intentionally leaving him out of stuff like going to the movies or getting a slice of pie, but cut out the parts where he has to sleep outside that push it too far.
there, the characters are all in character, likeable, and the plot still works

The starting point of this one reminds me of "The Loud House Movie" (the animated one on Netflix), right down to the frame of Lincoln hiding under the table while everyone else is eating. Although in that case, it wasn't so much about Lincoln feeling overwhelmed by familial obligations, as it was feeling overshadowed by each of his sisters' unique quirks. I really enjoyed the movie overall - it wasn't perfect, but it seemed to "get" everyone's personality, and was anchored by character relationships. I'd be curious, as someone who doesn't really agree with the common premise that that show's going downhill, to hear your take on it!

Yes,I really enjoyed and loved this 2021 movie,it had the charm, cleverness, writing, and animation of the first three seasons and Angus and Morag are great new characters. This movie should've been a stopping point for the show, and ended it on a high note, along with a half-hour series finale concluding Season 5 with the Loud's all grown up,having jobs and families on their own,and taking a photo during a family reunion. Much like how SpongeBob and Fairly OddParents were originally intended to end with The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie and Channel Chasers.

This is such a frustrating show to watch anymore. The end of season 3-5 has been some of the laziest writing I've seen in a long time but the writers still clearly know what they're doing because there have been some of the best episodes in the series in that span, like Game Off and Dark and Story Night.
I just wish they'd stop rehashing old plots, but poorer, shoehorning in fart jokes and introducing new characters every new episode and just go back to the basics that made the show popular in the first place because this genuinely was the best show on Nickelodeon at one point.

    How’d I write the episode:
Lincoln doesn’t want to go to Lynn’s sporting events anymore because he has no time to himself, and eventually asks his parents to skip one of Lynn’s games. They agree that Lincoln is old enough to do so, but Lynn is upset. However Lynn’s team which was on a losing streak wins the game. Lucy comments that Lincoln may have caused the bad luck, and Lynn is skeptical at first. However when Lincoln attends another sports game, Lynn’s team loses badly and Lynn believes Lucy. Lincoln is at first happy he doesn’t have to go to Lynn’s games, but eventually becomes bored at home by himself and misses the time he spent with his family at the games. However Lynn’s next game is a state championship that Lynn doesn’t want to lose. At the game, Lynn is struggling at first and looks into the crowd to see her family and feels bad Lincoln isn’t there. Then she hears someone cheering, and sees the mascot cheering like Lincoln did at her games. Lynn is encouraged and winds up winning the game and is cheered by her family and the mascot. She says she wished Lincoln was here and then the mascot takes off his head and reveals Lincoln was wearing the costume. He wanted to see Lynn play in the game because he wanted to support her. The family cheers with Lynn and Lincoln now knows why it’s important to support his family at their important events.

  • @chesiregirl

Honestly, I can't bring myself to like this show because of the very premise.
I know that it's just a cartoon, but all the problems seem to boil down to "Lincoln's family is too big." The whole "they really do love each other" thing falls flat for me; I just end up hating the parents for having so many kids. I'm sorry, but if you live in a first world country where you have easy access to birth control, you have absolutely no excuse to have that many children, and it's simply bad parenting and can verge on neglect. No matter how much you "love" your kids, you can't parent effectively on love alone. I haven't met a single large family in the first world where the parents weren't lazy, delusional, or had some major issues. Maybe it's because I'm an introvert who values my space and can only think about how miserable I would be in this family. Maybe it's because I've seen too many realistic depictions of what families with a ton of kids are really like, with the Duggar family in 19 Kids and Counting, or an episode of Supernanny where the parents had 10 kids. In a cartoon, the oldest kid is seen as bossy, like Lori. In reality, you get parentification of older kids, like Jana Duggar who is in her 30s and still lives at home as a constant free babysitter for her siblings, nieces, and nephews, or the oldest son from the Supernanny episode, who admitted to Supernanny that he'd had a panic attack before from the stress of looking after all his younger siblings.
So, despite the fact that this is a cartoon and you're supposed to suspend your disbelief, the reality of these kinds of situations ruins the whole show for me.
