Thanks for the useful video! Just one thought: I find the English subtitles during the news part distract from the learning experience, because I end up reading the English text rather than paying full attention to the voice. Of course the translation is useful, but maybe it could be embedded as a RUclips subtitle that can be turned off or hidden in the description?

I like how this video is informative in terms of the news, but also teaches a lot of Chinese vocabulary. Also, culturally interesting to see how the older teacher regularly interrupts the younger one. 給你們一個很大的「讚」,多點做這種短片吧!

Love the format of this video even if I'm not into politics. I was listening for individual words as I'm not quite intermediate yet and this was the best ear training.

    首先,非常好😁這種難度比較高的影片對我來講很剛好,大部分都聽得懂但還有些不明白的地方。但我覺得elsha英文講的有點多,可能下次可以多把說的英文翻成中文讓我們多學點東西多

I think there seems to be some confusion between the English withdraw and to withdraw FROM. To withdraw from an agreement doesn't mean that the whole agreement is cancelled, it means that just the USA (for example) is no longer adhering to it. If you say in Chinese 撤回协议, does this mean the whole treaty is cancelled(like 撤销)or that one party is withdrawing (like 退出)?

(In English it sounds odd to say 'withdraw an agreement')

"应对" is prounounced as "对付". (5:04)

  • @susannaallmeroth5006

    I have a few remarks/questions:
Around 2:50, it should be 实行. Around 5:00 it says 怎么应对 but the speaker reads 对付 (which is not exactly the same, or is it?). Around 5:50, for Donald trump you wrote 特朗普特朗普, which is basically Trump Trump.
For Russia, I’ve heard often heard Chinese people say “E2 Luo2 Si1”, not “E4” as in the video. Which is correct?
I think the switch from the small talk upfront to introducing the dialogue was so fast it was almost funny. Also, the speaker from the middle part speaks rather clipped which is a bit irritating, and mixes up a lot of S-Sh and Z-Zh sounds which i know differs for each region, but which I think is difficult to learn and practice with. I also think you should show the vocabulary longer, at 7:55 for example it vanished before the words were even spoken.
Otherwise it was a nice and informative lesson, albeit a little advanced for the level.

Hi Susanna, thanks for your detailed comment.
We will add an editor's note about 实行 and Trump‘s name. For 应对 vs 对付, both words make sense in this context and they are quite similar. However, 对付 has more of a negative connotation. The pronunciation of 俄罗斯 is a regional thing, however in the dictionary you will see éluósī.
Thanks for the rest of your considered feedback. This video was shot last year and we have changed a few things since then. You will find that in our newer videos, the vocabulary stays up for longer. We hope you will enjoy our more recent content!

    非常好的影片!我會把它跟我的老師分享一下。我個人覺得開始的對話是最好的一部分,但是我認爲有點太多英文,而且我對總統的姓名其實沒有那麽興趣,比較想跟朋友們討論台灣的第四核能電廠。但是我非常享受看!

It seems the left speaker is not a native speaker, several grammar mistakes/non-native elements of speech (structure) are made...

Rebecca from ChinesePod Team Yes, thanks for the clarification. I have followed ChinesePod for many years (since 2008) and have been a large fan of you guys. So, I was surprised to see this video. I think for advanced lessons, it’s important to have native Mandarin speakers, otherwise I don’t think this teaching can be well-utilized for learners wanting to improve.

What happened to these presenters? I believe they would be great for the upper intermediate and advanced level courses while Grace and Jenny focus on the Newbie and Elementary lessons.
