    Was the trail busy?

I would say no. Though the trailhead was busy, most people seem to be coming to check out the main Tumalo Falls view and don't venture far. I encountered a few other people hiking up to the various falls in Section A, but nobody at all on the other two sections except one trail runner.

Going on a weekend, yea, crowds. And mt bikes.
I wouldn't say hiking poles are needed unless enjoy carrying stuff.
You may want to bring mosquito repellant. I recommend the natural ones to avoid Monsanto on my skin. Mosquitoes are usually snowmelt which don't carry viruses though. A Bemedryl stick will take care of the itching.
