The BEST Ways to Save Money at Universal Orlando: Refillable Park and Resort Freestyle Cups

In today's video we walk you through understanding how the Coke Freestyle cups work in both the Universal Orlando parks and in the Universal Orlando resort hotels. We also explain the differences between the cups so you can decide which one you need.
Using the Freestyle machines is a great way to save money and the machines can be used to refill your water bottles or water cups as well. When we visit other parks we often wish we came across Freestyle machines more often.

We went back to the resorts in January and noticed a price increase in resort cups. Cups were listed as:
One day $12.50
Three days $18.00
Seven days $22.00
Length of stay: $25.00
We spent more time at the resorts this trip so I purchased a resort cup and did not activate my park cup. We just brought our water bottle in the park most days and Zack put his collapsible cup in his pocket on days he explored without a backpack.
You actually don’t need either one!!! Take a reusable cup (any kind) -to the free style machines to get FREE ICE AND WATER all day long. All you have to do is depress for the ice, and don’t set your cup down on the strainer. Just hover it above in one hand. With the other hand you can request water without the machine gronking on you. In the summer those machines may run out of ice by about two pm. But the water is still cold. We’ve also taken collapsible cups and thermoses and put them in our bags and filled when needed. DO NOT PAY $6 for a single plastic bottle of water! Any of the food places also usually have ice water cups out on the counters. And Starbucks will also give you water if requested for free. Just bring your own water flavor packets and you’re all set! If you do feel the need to purchase a freestyle cup, you can do so and bring it back another time and just pay the reactivation fee for the day if you want soft drinks. You can also carry around your resort plastic bottle and use a carabiner clip on your belt loop or back pack as they’ve got handles and lids. Those work as well. We don’t pay for drinks in the parks anymore. You will save yourself a good $20-$50+ doing it this way. Especially if you’ve got a large group. Last time we paid for a Starbucks, drank it, and then refilled that plastic cup all day. When you need to use a locker for rides at the resort-your cups need to be emptied (as those free ride lockers are slim and long and you need to place your cups inside laying down). Keep that in mind, cause it’s important to know for later. ❤

Hi! I know the resort cups can also be reactivated but can you mix and match at resorts? For example, can I reactivate and use a Dockside cup at Cabana Bay?
Hi Keeum! As far as we have been told, the cups are resort specific. Though, I do believe the Endless Summer Resorts you can use it at either Dockside or Surfside. We also noticed on our last visit to Dockside that the refill time was only 2.5 minutes between refills, which was really helpful! It is 10 minutes at the parks.

Do you need to pay to get water if you not have bought a refillabe cup? So id you just use your own bottle to fill up with water.
Water is free! So you can bring your own bottle or collapsible cup and fill it at the machines with water! Zack always brings in his own bottle. He uses a hydro flask bottle that we have had for years.

How much is it to reactivate your cup on other days?
It is about $12 to reactive. If you have an annual pass that includes discounts for food and beverages you get $1 off too.
I think that Universal should have Pepsi Spire machines instead.
Can you use a resort cup in the parks and just pay the $1.49 per refill?
Good question! I had to think about for a minute. The sensor on the Coke freestyle machine will not work for anything other than water if you use anything other than the park freestyle cup or a paper cup with a sensor in it that is just good for I think an hour. We do, however, sometimes bring our resort cup for water and also for filling in the lobby on our way back to the hotel since some rooms are a far walk from the lobby. Hope that helps!
@@goteamadventures thanks! But could I bring it to a quick service stand and pay the $1.49 for a refill? The like I would with a souvenir butterbeer cup or a character sipper? Just as an example we are planning a pool day in the middle of our trip. Then headed to a park for dinner and just do the new dream works land and call it a night. Do you know if it’s possible so use the resort cup and just pay for a refill? Net necessarily using the freestyle machine? Thanks again!
I think it would be the $4.50ish charge for a drink in that case. That is my guess. If you can please do let us know after your visit!

Can you use these during HHN?
Yes! And during HHN they come out with an HHN design for the park cup too if you would rather get one with a limited design on it! It’s a different style of a cup, but it functions the same. So you can choose which type of cup you want!
Can you use it to get icees?
Yes! You can get icees in both the park cups and resort cups! The green apple at Cabana Bay is our favorite icee and we got those a lot!
