Among the injuries suffered by FSU that day: quarterback Casey Weldon; fullback Edgar Bennett; running back Marquette Smith; wide receiver Kevin Knox; offensive linemen Robbie Baker, Kevin Mancini, Reggie Dixon, Jeff Deremer, and Patrick McNeil; linebackers Marvin Jones, Reggie Freeman, and Kevin Adams; and safeties Richard Coes and Levon Brown. Many feel that despite the victory, the resultant injuries ultimately cost FSU a national championship in 1991.
Late 80’s and early 90’s was just the best in College football, especially Auburn. Just can’t get enough and would love to see more of them if you can find them.
Completely agree! They were the voice of my Saturday Nights as a kid/young adult! Without question one of the best college football broadcasting duos ever!
My brother is an old diehard Hurricanes fan but he said "amp lee was my boy" nothing but respect for those Seminoles. None for the gators lmao. Shout out Edgar Bennett too.
I was in the stands for that game. It was pouring in the 1st half. Even wearing a waterproof poncho, I was soaked from the knees down & damp everywhere else. It's sad to think how many people thought Curley Hallman was going to accomplish something at LSU based on this close game. He never even had a winning season at LSU.
I was in high school working at Albertsons when my friend told me the halftime score and said “the Noles had the cheerleaders in. It’s gonna be a different ball game in the 2nd half”. Damn he sure was right. 😂🤣
I watched this game from the student section. Not many of us were left by the time the game had ended, but those remaining circled the tunnel entrance to cheer LSU as they exited the field.
The Magic returned when Gerry Dinardo got our traditional home whites back. Those purple jerseys were cursed and LSU could never win in them. They led to the firings of 3 LSU coaches (Stovall, Archer and Hallman).
@@timothythorne9464 October of 1997 when the defending national champions and number one ranked Florida gators had a 25 game conference winning streak LSU ended that streak that night and I remember the goal posts in the north end zone came quickly
The game this year is gonna be a blast. My sister starts her freshman year at LSU and were all FSU fans(moms a Gator...). Were all going and I'm sure FSU will get smoked this time around. I'm just glad I get to go.
I was there and the game and the days leading up to the game were awesome. Nole fans took over "The Big Easy" and then FSU won a close one. Overall, it was the best college game environment that I've ever been a part of. Full disclosure, I'm an NC State Wolfpack fan and I was pulling for the Noles and my beloved ACC. I would love to have a game day vibe like that in Carter Finley Stadium.
The best thing that happened under DiNardo was his getting the NCAA to change the uniform rules to allow us to return to our traditional home whites. We now wear the purple jerseys for two games a year.
Florida State and Clemson didn't want to play in the SEC. LSU wasn't dominant then. Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Auburn and Tennessee would have been a problem. Imagine playing those Schools on your schedule.
What a crock. UF blocked FSU's entry into the SEC when it was brought up. And FSU played and has played UF every year except those years when UF chickened out and refused to play FSU (most recently in 2020, but the state legislature got involved before UF would deign to play FSU in 1958 (FSU started football in 1947)). Given how the divisions are, it's likely FSU would probably play only 3 of the 5 teams you mentioned every year. Tennessee couldn't even beat UF with Peyton Manning and barely beat FSU in 1998 with our starting QB out. Alabama wasn't that great in the mid-late 1990s, nor was UGA. Auburn had like 2 seasons where they had 10+ wins in the 1990s and tons of 5-win seasons. UF was by far the scariest and most consistently-successful SEC team in that period and FSU played UF every year anyway. LSU had home field advantage and weather on their side and it still wasn't that close. Speed is meaningless in the mud.
Garbage take. Fsu that year played 5 top 10 teams, 3 of which bring top 5, and 7 ranked teams overall. Sec teams don’t have anything near that kind of schedule, instead they play a bunch of cupcakes or unranked trash. Take a look at Georgia’s schedule and tell me I’m wrong. Fsu had to play Miami and Florida every year, both of which were very dominant back then
Winston? He made a few dumb childish mistakes but did nothing to ruin the program. Brought us a Heisman and a Natty and won like 28 games in a row. Jimbo screwed FSU over so hard but Winston had nothing to do with that.
