I can’t explain how happy I am to see these lads perform their music at the mercury prize, music written with influence from old traditional irish poetry and music, how proud would any Irish person feel singing these lyrics to a crowd of British people.. very proud
Amazing
Class Band!!
Absolutely, I'd jump at the opportunity to shout Brits at the BBC.
S F you do realise that the song isn’t anti-british right? if anything it’s anti-irish
@@Gregorsnek does that some how change the fact that an Irish man sings "brits out" on the BBC? Plus, how exactly is the song anti-Irish? In what interview have any of them said that?
This was where I discovered Fontaines D.C. ! Just looking back again at the fateful day I discovered their wonderful music! They've gone so far! Lovin' Skinty Fia!!!
same! always come back to this video, great band
Brilliant all festival season loving this punk rock n roll revival thing. Lots of great raw bands this year x
And they all suck
@@herointhemaking2057 who's bad?
Ahh its someone who doesn't know a goddamn thing about music? Go read a blog or "screen " zine you poser?
Don't mind filth like him. Fontaines are awesome as fuck. Your a rebel for listening to this self-deemed "rebel's" hate for what he deems "True Punk"? Stupid...
"Spits out, Brits out (in England 🤣) only smokes Carrolls." G'WAN THE LADS. UP THE DUBS 💙

Have to win, great band, great album!!
Shades of Ian Curtis crossed with Mark E Smith
This is mixed so well
Wow. This performance is spine tingling. It is powerful and in your face of course but there’s more to it than that, an almost shifting in the tides, a kind of change, one feels, in which the very forms of rock music are based and performed. Reminiscent of The Who or early Oasis. Not only this but I also feel it somewhat embarrassing as a Brit that an Irish band is coming over from across the water, showing up and smashing this out, blowing any British guitar bands out of the water in every department. Whilst I’m writing this a few years after this was performed I truly believe there is still so much to come from this band in terms of music and their writing but also the influence that they can exert onto up and coming bands coming through or any aspiring young song writers. Exciting stuff.
i mean, black midi played, they're british and were incredible
@@duckman1863 this is leagues above black midi imo. Pure, raw energy
@@archiet2205 I mean their bmbmbm performance was insane, the guitarist literally did a backflip, their performance wasn't as raw yes, but it was tight, concentrated bursts of pure rage and energy
@@archiet2205sorry i gotta disagree
Best album
If I was in that crowd I would have gone absolutely mental. Being thrown out would've been worth it
Is that a good or bad night!?

The singer, great voice and lyrics, sweetness about him, handsome healthy strapping lad. Chicks be trippin at 2:43, thinkin we need to draw straws on this one. Only fair way to do it. Otherwise we'll rip each other to shreds. One of us will be the lucky.
See you in Amsterdam, fantastic band!
always love deego's shirt choices
Still ridiculously good.

Real music.
Who are they? They are so good!!! Why am I discovering them just now??????
Proper frontman -
More than just proper!!!
Right now in July 2023 just after the release of Grian Chatten`s first solo album one could easily see the world is his oyster. In high insight it all makes perfect sense. Viva Grian Chatten and Fontaines DC on their 4th album....No Pressure!
you better hear it and fear it... yer that's the spirit.
Image is everything.
Saw these guys with IDLES. So cool to see them getting some more acknowledgement!
That must have been stunning!!! They're two of my new favourite bands since I discovered them in the last year. Both are huge!!! 💯
Love love love
Absolutely. Fucking. Perfect. Absolutely brilliant.
How this only has 116k views is beyond me
How they are not dancing on the fucking tables is beyond me!

Welcome to something good
Listen to my band
oh look an actual band. amazing bravo!
we get it dude, you hate bm. and no one gives a singular fuck about your opinion. just let people listen to whatever they want to, without getting in their face about listening to "literal garbage modern art". Music is subjective.

Really good 👍
the singer reminds me of Ian Curtis and I don't know if that's a good thing or not
Clemente Contreras I guess you could call it a mix. Musically that’s a good thing but personality wise that’s not such a good thing lol
Its a good thing
literally what i was thinking!! this sounds like joy division, maybe bc the vocals are a bit muffled too
Brilliant

Don’t crucify me but does the main man bring about Mark E Smith vibes to anyone else?
I won't, cause he clearly does

Doesn’t he sound like late Mark E Smith off The Fall?
Not really. Looks like Ian Curtis though.
Shouting out for backing vox guys
the riff is a sped up Wild Thing you make my heart sing
blozo chords get re used, there were probably a billion songs with that exact riff written between wild thing and this
You've said that a couple times but they're really not. Wild Thing is A D E D..
Wrong crowd? Seemed like they were more looking for a Jooles Holland serenade 🙂. Would have gone down a treat in Vicar st or Olympia or even Aviva!!!
Head and shoulders above everyone else. Should have won by a distance.
I noted that you are saying that for all performances, you sexy troll

The only good thing to come from this years Mercury Prize. Only band who deserved the prize.
Idles
black midi and slowthai too
In my opinion those guys don’t come close to Fontaine’s but that’s just my opinion if you guys feel different that’s fair enough
@@michaelniner98 Did you listen to Nothing Great About Britain (Slowthai) or Schlagenheim (Black Midi)? Musically those were much bigger achievements. Totally understand the lyrical angle though, Fontaines are definitely a unique voice but I would say that the other two topped them in terms of making a more interesting record sonically.
@@horselookinghumanheadass absolutely. Fontaines doesn't come close musically. "Simple" repetitive riffs and lyrics are fun and peppy but are not really comparable
Mark E. smith called from beyond the grave, he intends to sue
fuck mark e smith
The fact that these didn't win shows the depressing state of music
yes 100%
Or idles
Alasdair Sutherland heard this all before, the band has its place in their scene but its nothing exciting or new is it. at least cate le bon and midi have some original feeling to them. dave deserved to win anyway
Daniel Thomson cos that album is way more contextually relevant not only in sound but also content. these lads are cool but pay attention
@@br00talKidHxC Depends on the context. From the Irish perspective this album was far more relevant than Dave's.
I'm hearing the 2019 version of Joy Division, no? Or am I just nuts?
You're nit nuts lol
Better than the rap shite that won.
At last - something vaguely melodic!
Great band, bad crowd.
I saw Fontaine’s D.C support Shame last year and they were pretty mediocre and looked like they couldn’t be arsed to perform, I don’t think they won many fans that day
You kidding, I saw them at that shame gig and I've been a fan since.
falafel 544 no not kidding, I thought they were a bit of a let down in terms of live performance as I like their tracks and was looking forward to seeing them live, i’m not saying I don’t like their music just they are average as a live band
@@999Dixon999 nah man seen them in Amsterdam in June they were immense Dutch crowd was going wild
Bit of a Curtis/E Smith wannabe eh?

I get that’s it an anti colonialist thing, which is awesome, but I can’t help but think that it sounds like a poor man’s Vibrators.. 🤷🏻♂️ I have nothing against these guys though, I just don’t understand the hype, it’s good but it’s exceptionally average ✌️💕
They are not anti colonialist Jesus wept
Cause your stupid
very over rated band. nothing special here
franz beck interesting opinion, how so ?
time will tell, thats how so. all this popularity has been built by the irish media and being funded by the irish government. why?? I dont know one person that could tell why they received so much backing, but they did. then they receive this mercury music nomination.....great stuff.....more promotion is what that is....nothin else. Lets remember getting the nod for this nomination was also backed by the very same folk that pushed them onto the masses via irish radio, tv etc etc. They had the backing from their university days....made the right connections......it was not down to their music. Sales for their debut album also suggest nothing special. Remember the band The Thrills??? Put these guys in the same bracket as them.
@@franzbeck3177 perks of going bimm same crack with the murder capital..
Yes, another very poor band that are getting the push. Its fascinating how a good chunk of the public will fall for the media's favourites. These fontaines guys are a different breed altogether....they play shite music and write absolute garbage lyrics that dont make any sense whatsoever. They cant even structure a song correctly with lyrics. They say on one of their song's.....Dublin is a pregnant city with a catholic mind......maybe so if it was 1970......Dublin and Ireland today.....are far from a catholic mind I can assure you of that
what backing have they got from the irish media though? Fair enough, Ill admit i discovered them after their appearance on the jimmy fallon show which I do find peculiar how they ended up on it but I havent seen much of them on Irish media, havent heard them on irish radio yet and what the fuck is that garbage about being funded by the government?
Shite
