    Like others here have stated, this lesson is pure gold. I'm 4 years into my lessons, still a beginner, maybe late-stage beginner, but I notice that the songs l like to play have beautiful fills in between the chords. I've been working on the Adele version of Make You Feel My Love, and I think her piano player does a great job of playing subtle fills without getting in the way of her vocals. I'm still trying to figure out the 3-chord walkup to the chorus, but in the meantime I will use this lesson to improve my playing on other songs. Thanks for this great lesson!

      By coincidence, I’m at the same stage of learning, working on the same piece, Make You Feel my Love and looking for the same idea to fill in more between block chords. Small world!

    Adam you've done it again. You weren't kidding when you said right at the beginning that you have lots of ideas for the channel lol! Excellent video and just want I wanted. You know it's a strange thing all the fills you teach us and what I have seen elsewhere look so complex and you think you need to be some kind of musical genius to think them let alone to play them when really a lot of them are within classical music just notated so you don't realise that they are actually fills.
    You really have given me confidence to experiment and play without referring to sheet music. I'm not very good at it because I am so entrenched in notation that I find it difficult to break that anchor which keeps pulling me back but I am edging that way and with your videos, my confidence is growing so I am just now waiting for the light bulb moment where my fingers just take over so to speak.
    The tip about the pentatonic is a good one which I had never thought of before. Any more tricks using other scales would be good. I know a lot of music is written using the Pentatonic but I just didn't make the connection with that scale and fills. Silly I know lol!
    Thank you Adam. Can't wait for the community you talked about to be up and running. I shall certainly subscribe!

      @@thekeyscoach my pleasure. You're a good teacher. Love your teaching style which is conducive to all levels. Although your channel appears to be orientated towards late beginners, early intermediate, there is so much for every level to take away! Especially those who are classically trained. As I said I can't wait for the community to develop and the live lessons, videos etc. Seriously don't sell yourself short, there are a lot of people doing this Adam on RUclips but none have your ability to connect with people or who take the time to produce downloadable supportive documents.

    Another great lesson Ad, thanks a lot! It's worth listening to Elvis songs for the piano fills alone, they're really good. A lot to learn from those songs when all the musicians were session guys playing for hours every day, at the top of their game. Bob Seger is another good one for those fills!

    Fmajor scale works fine because the progression is basically a 1-6-2-5-1 with a diatonic chords.

    • @thekeyscoach
      @thekeyscoach  2 месяца назад +1

      You can definitely use both, but pentatonic is a good starting place.

    • @brucejeric6701
      @brucejeric6701 2 месяца назад

      @@thekeyscoach yes I’m aware of pentatonic use as well. I just mentioned about the F major scale because that’s how you introduced the lesson when you began. And I realized the 1-6-2-5-1 progression even though you used the 3rd in the bass with the G minor sus chord. I play jazz so I use many different note choices on minor, major, and dominant and diminished chords from different scales = modes,half- whole diminished, whole- half diminished , altered scale, whole tone scale.
      Rock and roll players probably use major , minor, & pentatonic scales more? I’m guessing because I’m not a rock player.

    Is the meter on this 6/8 or 3/4?

    • @jd080657
      @jd080657 2 месяца назад

      Never mind. I downloaded the chart and see that it is 4/4. I must be too much of a beginner to feel the 4/4. According to the sheet music, you're basically playing a 3/16 note, then 1/8 note, then 1/16 note then a 5/8 note. And during the 2nd half of the bar, you do the fill. I think I just need to repeat it a bunch of times to get the feel.

    • @jd080657
      @jd080657 2 месяца назад

      Got it. Last note is a 3/8 note, leaving space for (4) 1/16 note filler notes. Once I got a metronome out, and hummed the 4 beats plus 4 filler notes, it came together.

    You have nice ideas for fills, but this video is painful to listen to because of your rhythm. You are saying as you are teaching each fill. 1, 2, 3 (insert a one beat pause), 4 (when you start the fill), then teaching a 1 1/2 or 2 1/2 beat fill), then when you play it how it goes together you are playing measures that are 5 1/2 to 6 1/2 beats long, absolutely painful to hear! At the very end of the video when you give an example of how to put it all together you change the rhythm to make all the fills work in 4 beats. Your first 3 notes are not 3 quarter notes, like you taught at the beginning (actually you taught it more like quarter, quarter half because of the pauses you kept adding) what you played at the very end was more like quarter, 2 eighth notes. You fills start on beat 3 1/2 (not 4, as you stated when teaching them). Anyone practicing this how you taught it is going to have terrible rhythm problems.
