I bet a lot of people were disappointed when this movie didn't win best picture. Totally should've won, great movie.
I agree. Crash wasn't that good of a movie but due to large number of well known actors in the cast it was just political thing.
***** True!
Reyna Rincón Agree with you . Brokeback Mountain is a great movie . Dissapointed about Academy , they were mistaken for give Oscar to Crash . If I can give the score , Crash : 7,7 and Brokeback Mountain : 8,5 .
I wish they would change the voting rules to also include some pubic opinion. Say maybe 10-15% of the vote. The Peoples Choice Awards seem to be more in touch with reality.
Only reason why crash won was because it was a “better alternative” to brokeback due to the themes and what brokeback centered around. Terribly disappointing night. The look on every new faces showed it all. However Crash director Paul haggis even himself admitted in 2015 that he thought Crash didn’t deserve that award. In 2015 they also did a poll and brokeback won. We all knew who took that award home that night 12 years ago. Was it Political ? Definitely. Rigged? Most likely
Best director... Best Screenplay. Best original score... thn why not best film ? Why?
Jaimil Joshi I don’t think we want to know the answer tbh.
@@Millie15071 yes.
2006 it still wasnt Ok.
Pues la academia es una mierda porque es una película de homosexuales no le dieron el Oscar a mejor film hipócritas
The Academy Awards at that times was homophobic. It was composed mostly of straight white men in their 60s.
I just watched Brokeback Mountain and it's just so brilliant and well thought-out.
Deserved Oscar.
Came here when I saw Mr. McMurtry passed today. Wonderful short story. Brilliant screenplay. Absolutely should have won Best Picture. RIP to one of the greats.
yes!!! one of the best wins of this category ever. A brilliant screenplay
You probably think that cause of what the movie is about.
Jake Melvin i think that because i've read the original short story and McMurty and Ossana made a superb job adapting it
I'm just fuckin with you.
Jake Melvin lol
RIP Larry McMurtry (June 3, 1936 - March 25, 2021), aged 84
And
RIP Heath Ledger (April 4, 1979 - January 22, 2008), aged 28
You both will always be remembered as legends.
They added one of the most pivotal scenes of Brokeback: the meeting between Ennis and his daughter, Alma Jr. when she comes to tell him that she's going to get married. They also changed the ending cutting Ennis purchasing the postcard and having a forgetful exchange with the store clerk though it appeared in the screenplay draft to Ennis placing Alma's sweater in the closet. In the short story, Ennis hammers a nail after purchasing the postcard and steps back to deliver - "Jack, I swear".
Not to mention the development of the difficult relationship between Alma Jr. and Ennis. That wasn't implied in the story. Also, the tension between Alma and Ennis before the divorce was further explored and presented emotionally.
The dinner scene where Jack meets Randy was introduced into the film though in the story, he is mentioned later on by Jack's father.
They also omitted unnecessary backstories like Ennis' and Jack's childhood experiences except for the tire iron scene.
An excellent adapted screenplay in every sense.
2:53 look at Jake, he was so happy🥺
Very nice and genuine pre-award talk from Mr.Hoffman, always nice to see and hear, always awesome.
Brokeback Mountain has great screenplay.
R.I.P. Larry (1936-2021) :'(
McMurtry is a beast of a legend. So much from him to enjoy, on books and tons of his work has of course evolved into film as well. What a great ending to his speech.
Larry McMurty RIP, humble and brilliant.
Just heard about larry mcmurty's passing. First read last picture show in high school and changed my life. God speed mr mcmurty.
Cmbyn and brockback mountain won in the same category. Sure the shape of water deserved it the tiniest bit more but Brockback mountain deserved best picture... just an opinion, I mean no offense to anyone
the shape of water was nominated for Original Screenplay, call me by your name was in Adapted Sceenplay
@Winnie Bumpers Moonlight was a different year
Just watched it for the first time, absolutely amazing. From the music from the stories, from the acting, to the cinematography, so powerful and even though it didn't win best picture 2006 , one of the greatest films of all time, and it is one of the best pictures ever,
Farewell, Mr. McMurtry. Horseman, pass by.
that weird laugh from Mr. Hoffman!! I loved it!!!
Receiving an oscar in jeans.....
He can wear whatever he wants
What'd you wear when you picked up yours, sunshine?
He’s from texas, it’s fine
"Crash" is an excellent film and it deserved to win.
Brokeback mountain!
Amo esse filme, pena que um dos atores faleceu tão.jovem😢
aff nem fala...
Sex at that time was too controversial for the academy. It was too controversial in 1968 when In The Heat of the Night won over The Graduate. In both cases, however, their directors won for best director - Mike Nichols and Ang Lee.
That music tho ❤️
Dustin Hoffman is such a cheese-ball.
RIP Larry
RIP Mr. Larry McMurtry 😭😭😭
One of the best writers has ever lived and wrote maybe the best American Novel, Lonesome Dove.
the one who disapproved of the video is the one who has not yet watched the movie
Damn, that woman is a looker!!
RIP Mr. McMurtry
The song the orchestra plays as they're walking towards the stage sounds very much like Collide by Tiana Major9 and Earthgang from Queen & Slim. Right? Like, I'm not the only person that hears that.
I thought the movie was so cute... 😭
Dustin sounds bored reading the nominees.
Merecido ame esta pelicula con mi corazon
Won best director and best screenplay but not best picture go figure smh 😭
Diana Ossana subsequently pissed a lot of people off by slating the Academy Voters for choosing CRASH for Best Picture. Instead of being happy winning an Oscar, she chose to be the ultimate bad loser of a producer.
she just told the truth, and no one likes the truth
Larry mcmutry rip
So did the guy who adapted Capote play Daniel Pearl in that film with Angelina Jolie? Looked just like him.
2:37
That music they played underneath the speeches was stupid.
Broke back Mountain is a good movie👍👍👍👍👍❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️😍😍😍😍😍🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Claims bus windows are designed to embarrass certain skin colors, wins Best Screenplay.
Batman Begins should be on here.
No not really.
@@ronaldmcdonald2817 yes really
Why didn’t Munich win?
And we never saw him again lol
Batman begins wasn’t even nominated what a shame to the academy awards.
It wasn’t nominated because it didn’t deserve a nomination.
@@ronaldmcdonald2817 Lol What? Why?
@@bookeblade Because there is some dumb stuff in it like the villains main plan makes no sense.
@@ronaldmcdonald2817 it did though
@@salarzx62090 Not for adapted screenplay.
We need more LGBTQ cowboy movies
Dustin Hoffman always boring at Oscars
I think either History of Violence or Capote should have won. No I don't think Brokeback Mountain shouldn't have won because it's about gay cowboys. Jesus I hate when people jump to that conclusion. I just think it's a boring film, I didn't buy the chemistry with Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal and I thought the writing was cheesy. Even if it was a straight couple I still wouldn't care for it.
supermariofan03 you are definitely the 1% here
supermariofan03 and the chemistry wouldn't be an argument for the screenplay either way. And i've never heard anybody say people who didn't like it only did so because it was about gay people
HAL 9000 Dude...you have no idea about the type of people who would defend movies involving a gay relationship.
Haven't watched it, only here for memoirs of a geisha, and also i hope its even as good as call me by your nameeeeeeeeee which won oscar on this category
@Opaque z you should watch it, I can't even compare these two movies honestly, both made me weep
what a boring ass movie... z z z z z z z
this is your life boring
Tu vida si
Tu zzzzz
Homofobia
Such a disgrace of a movie.
Why don't you just crawl back to whatever hole you came from, Texas Guy.
Why is it a bad movie?
nobody asked you.
of course you're from texas, because of people like you jack twist died xD
Well your screen name speaks for itself .You dont have to bark and show you are what you are
