    I've owned a Kia Niro EV from 2019 and regularly charge in my garage without any issues or fears.
    The car now has over 213,000 km and I've been very happy with my decision of going electric.
    Many EVs come with a lot more standard equipment so you should compare the ICE vehicle with the same equipment as the EV.

    in regards to the speed getting away from you, as someone who goes between an EV and an ICE every few months, I don't think its so much of an auditory feedback issue, as it is due to a different throttle modulation technique being required when driving an EV vs when driving an ICE.

    • @4literv6
      @4literv6 Месяц назад +1

      That bolt ultium refresh will likely kill this dead here in the US next year and easily. Assuming guberment motors makes them!
      I mean I've already seen loaded brand new much larger more powerful better charging Chevy equinox evs for 33-36k near me in ATL.
      And Kia has plans to export 110,000 of these from mx to the U.S. except the entire compact class sales across ALL the manufacturers models and trims is only 800,000-1,100,000 in a really good year here.
      Maybe 35k when fully loaded pre tax credit I could see this standing a chance here getting a 25-50k unit share, but a loaded one is 36-38k in Korea already and the mx built ones won't be any cheaper than that. Just ask Ford and Chevy with their mx made evs! 😀

    Your estimated price for the car in the US was actually for Canada right? Since the Kia Niro EV costs around 40 000$ in the US, your estimate would be more around 30 000$ - 35 000$ there if I'm correct. Thanks for your video!

  • @karlInSanDiego
    @karlInSanDiego 20 дней назад +1

    Chris $30-$40k is cheap for an EV in the USA. Car companies have to charge more for EVs because the batteries cost a lot. And Kia and Hyundai are beyond the game of building unprofitable cars. So they have to save costs to get them to a lower price. This is why Tesla interiors always were cheap, as is the build quality. And it's why Tesla is losing market share, now that other brands are available in BEV. Thanks for the review. Wish this was a car and not lifted into an SUV. The efficiency suffers when you have a more upright design higher off the ground. It affects the CdA with larger area and allowing air under the car is less efficient.

    • @realchris
      @realchris  20 дней назад

      Yes it would be more efficient in a different form factor. But consumers prefer this form factor these days.

    Kia and Hyundai have built a network of dealers who are able to offer warranty repair and service their vehicles. From a practical perspective I'd feel better about buying a vehicle where I can find a brick and mortar establishment in virtually any city where I can bring my car in to take care of it's requirements. I still see a major detractor on EV's being the depreciation and insurance costs which have to be factored into the overall ownership costs coupled with the future vehicle's value competing with cheaper Chinese alternatives entering the market.

Still going strong 12 years and 170.000 km later. Total investment in repairs that were not just regular maintenance are now about 5k. I hope it survives another 2, then I'll seriously consider buying a used ev around maybe 20k. In markets outside Asia, the new Kia/Hyundai unfortunately have the European safety standards, which means nanny features like over speed warning, and that is even 1kph over the limit! Driver distraction meaning look down at the speedo or infotainment screen to adjust anything and the car will beep, bong and the screen will flash!, yes it can be turned off by hunting through the menu, but as soon as you turn off the car those annoying features are back on!
    We have the 2023 Kia EV6 and just old enough not to have any of those dreadful features!!

    • @realchris

    • @gregb1599
      @gregb1599 Месяц назад +1

      @realchris As far as I have seen, most even Toyota has that in the new CHR, Kia EV9 yes Kia EV5 yes. Pretty much all 2024 models, the current Nissan Qashquai does not, but a new facelift model that is made in the UK does, and it bugs the hell out of a lot of people!
      I believe Kia and Hyundai have listened to the angry public as they have at least on the very latest models made it so that all you have to do to silence the annoying nanny features is to press and hold the mute button on the steering wheel for about 5 seconds, unfortunately you still have to do that every time you start the car, but it's a start, I guess with a good software update they can easily make it turn off permanently. It's all to do with European ncap to achieve a 5 star crash rating.

I’m with Kris 100% in wanting to feel a button without looking. Concerning the difference in the feel of driving an EV compared to an internal combustion engine car, I love the quiet operation without the sound of an engine. It’s a matter of personal preference but I definitely prefer the EV experience. Strong regenerative means that I rarely have to use the brake pedal.

    I think EV's have their place, but they are not anywhere near to taking over from ICE vehicles. As a city runabout for people with their own fire-isolated charging bay, they are great. But as recent fires have highlighted, the risk to life when EV's are confined in enclosed spaces is too problematic (even e-scooter batteries are a problem). And if you want to use them for long distance driving, range anxiety is something most people, other than the zealots, don't want to have to put up with. We need far more education and regulations put into place before these huge Li+ batteries are mainstream.
