    Thanks for the video and a description of the process. Everything, in my dealings with Precision, has been proactive and professional. It's nice to hear from a company that wants your business. We are in the process of ordering our sails from Precision. So far, it's been a joy. Looks like you went with the laminate radial. Those are good looking sails.

    Got to agree. In 2002 we used Hong-Kong sails to replace the sails on our Westerly. We used their on-line service. It was brilliant. We sent them the old sails and discussed the issues and changes we wanted. 4 Weeks later we had probably the best performing sails we have ever had and the old sails back as spares, cost wast 50% less than the big 4. The big boys need to take note. Same material, same stitching thread and UV protection etc. Half the price. Sail cloth material is a fast developing technology. Cutting and fabrication is down to skill and QA. When we need new canvas on Impavidus, We dont think we will be using OEM! We will be getting bespoke!! Sail safe. Ant & Cid xx (SV Impavidus)

    Nice video guys. I was looking for an asymmetrical spinnaker for my Leopard and as the Ullman sail loft was in Cape Town ordered my sail ( they have the specs as they make the factory boat sails) and flew down to Cape Town did the tour of the factory and left with my sail in the Colours I wanted.😊 its a great feeling flying a new sail for the first time and It’s amazing to tour a sail loft especially a busy one. Do it if you ever get a chance.

    We ordered sails from Precision sails and couldn't be happier with their customer support. Our main concern was that when we got the sail if there was something was wrong we'd be SOL. Well - that scenario happened! We have a furling mast and the baton straps wouldn't fit through the slot. It took a single email explaining the problem with a photo and they immediately got us through warranty and started on a fix for us which ended up being a remake of the sail vs ripping it apart and changing the design of the batton pockets. The remade sail should be here in a couple of weeks. Superb customer service!

      @philthefarrier9469 5 лет назад

      Are you asking a question about the difference between the reef going in or out. I am guessing Nick is talking about making the area smaller in high winds and using weird sailor language

    • @iamblaineful
      @iamblaineful 5 лет назад +2

      You actually “put a reef in” when the winds pick up, and then “shake a reef out” when the wind speed drops off and you need more sail area. This applies to the Main Sail that isn’t on an in-mast furling system. Mainsail and headsail furling systems (rolling them up) instead of raising and lowering the sails have greatly simplified the process of reefing (reducing sail area). Mainsail furling is still sort of a religious debate, some hate it, some love it, each camp has their own reasons.

    Nice and educational video, thanks. Had new sails, main and genoa from Elvstrøm last year, for my Dufour 43, and will look at Precision for a new code 0, and spinnaker. Just one question, as I am currently in Villanova, south of Barcelona, what was the customs costs (if any), you had to pay for your sails, having them delivered in Spain.

    Did you have a particular reason for changing out your old sails like worn out , stretched or falling apart. When you ordered your sails did you have a cut and material in mind or did Precision recommend a cut and material to suit? Were they helpful in suggesting the best weight of material as well? Did they give you suggested wind speeds for use before shortening sails. Sorry for all the questions.

    • @sailingrubyrose

      TBone MC hey mate, our old jib was very worn out and needed changing. Our main was still okay but we decided to change both out to really maximise performance. Precision were great in advising and answering all our questions, we gave them some basic guidelines but left the details up to them since they’re the experts. We’ve now sailed with our new sails and are very happy.

    You missed a step - what do you do with the old sails? There must be limits to how many sails you have space for; you can't surely keep all the old ones as spares. I have that problem with a damged sail I replace, just nowhere to put it

    Why Precision Sails?? Nothing against them, but the reasoning in choosing them is missing. I think the message is that any maker that has been in business for a while makes quality sails. I'm considering new sails. Right now Rolly Tasker because I seen a set on another boat and they seem to have the best prices. That said, I'm a bit reluctant, so any insight would be wonderful.
