      DC Rainmaker, please let me ask you a few more questions: 1 - with 4 informations on the screen, the numbers get as big as in the G 920xt?; 2 - I have a bad experience with the gps of Suunto. I saw your analysis and the “cut curves” made by the new Polar. Does that affect the final numbers, or is just a map problem?; 3 - any further information on the swimming with Polar? 4 - the Polar learn as you use it? My impression is that Garmin gets more precise as you use it. The new Polar does that as well? Thanks.

    It's taken them ages, but finally!
    I've been close to buying a Garmin or Suunto to replace my M400 - but now keen to see what this watch will finally be (when they're done messing around with software/firmware upgrades).
    Battery life and HR monitor looks ace - hopefully they can add the maps!

    I got the Vantage V a few days ago. I'm really impressed with the optical HR. The real-time HR reporting lags a bit, but when you view recorded training data it's impressively close to the results from my H10 chest strap. The BIG letdown though is the screen brightness! In my dimly lit training room, the screen is pretty much unreadable. I have read that a lot of other people are mentioning the same thing. Polar MUST fix this ASAP.

    I ‘ve been using polar for more than 25 years, and had my last polar in 2014 the V800 which I experienced many issues with (like the connecting cord, or defective display sometimes which was repaired by polar and I had the cables 3 of them sent by polar cause my watch was still under warranty. I was still wondering why I wouldn’t leave Polar for Garmin Fenix 5 plus, but now that I saw the new Vantage Polar V, am not still sure to turn my back to Polar, even though there’s a slight temptation there. for now, I still will be waiting to see more in depths about the Vantage Polar, and continue working out with my V800.
    Anyway, thanks for the video keep the groove!!

    Great to see Polar finally move away from the Flintstone design aesthetic. As someone that primarily does indoor cycling and strength training, and is looking to track fitness progression this is interesting. I used a non HR Fenix 3 for 3 years before jumping to a Samsung Sport which lacks the feature I'm looking for. I really like the Polar price point as I seriously considered a Fenix 5 Plus but, cannot stomache paying $800 +. This is clearly a beta so interested to see full feature set once released for sale.

      QAR98109 Yes polar vantage v is much more affordable than even the cheaper garmin 945. I kind of like the stress tracking of garmin but I prefer polar since I have the H10 strap already, so it ends up being more affordable in the end. A garmin 945+tri strap is pretty up there. Haha. I’m still on the fence between garmin and polar...

      Hi, I used to be a Huge Polar fan. I have been using Polar HRM for as long as I've been a personal trainer which is now 28yrs.
      However after going through 4 different watches of M400 due to not being able to be recharged at all. They finally shipped me a V800 which I loved the watch but re charging was still an issue.
      After going for a midnight run and not being able to get a GPS on my Polar...I'd had enough.
      I did some research and Garmin just released the 935 and I cant tell you how happy I am. Between the watch and the Garmin Connect App...I am SOLD. Now all my clients are using Garmin watches. Polar lost me and almost 200 PT clients.
      Just food for thought for your next watch...

    This watch is a surprising upgrade from Polar. In your next hands-on review could you test the watch in a swimming pool? Can you test the OHR vs. Garmin hrm-swim in the pool? A reliable OHR for swimming seems like a huge breakthrough. Moreover, if they fix gps accuracy for running it's going to be a solid competitor to Garmin for people doing multisport. I rather have more sport functionalities than smartwatch features like notifications or music. I would like polar vantage m to have barometer and running power and the v model to have maps and navigation but hey, nothing's perfect. Good move from Polar.

    • @DyrtDyver
      @DyrtDyver 5 лет назад

      See my post above... optical does not reliably work in water and that's to say I don't believe they work at all. My Garmin VivoActive HR simply doesn't even try. From a bit of research I've done, I think the Garmin HRM-SWIM seems like it could be the best strap available - for lap swimming - (b/c of it's ability to adhere to the body specifically during flip turns). This isn't an issue in open water as you don't have that sudden burst of force from pushing off the wall and therefore sending the strap down to your waste. I think the H10 w/ its included siliconized Pro Strap may be comparable as well. With the Garmin HRM-SWIM, it will sync to your watch while in the water, but will only do so when you stop and bring the watch close to the sensor (and out of water). NOTE: This is all from my reading a lot not based in personal testing experience b/c I have yet to feel good about any of these to commit to buying at this point.

      True, the polar optical heart rate is way better. I used the polar 430 in the past briefly and it was almost flawless and definitely better than my Garmin 935 at the time, but I use a chest transmitter when I need heart rate accuracy, and in my experience Garmin is far better than anything out there when it comes to sports. The Apple watch is not even in the neighborhood of challenging Garmin, but the Apple watch is not targeting that market. Polar on the other hand is and they've left out too many features to be competitive with the garmin top end watches. I used to be a Polar fan back in the '90. Not loyal to Garmin and would jump ship in an instant if polar or Suuntos or even apple came out with a good alternative. As it stands right now, there's nothing out there that checks all the boxes like Garmin.

    The Vantage V looks way better than my Fenix 5 plus, but I still can't go with Polar, because they keep watering down their products. Biggest flaw I think is that there's no ANT+. They keep playing catch-up. I love the look of the Polar V, but if I have to cough up the money, I'd buy the FR 935 again, before buying this. Garmin, just keeps hitting the mark. Not sure who's in charge at Polar, but they need to go, or at least hire DCRainmaker to put their watch together if they are to compete with Garmin.

    Sensational amounts of information, but I found something you left out!
    Suppose you start a triathlon with a vantage watch, and you're wearing an h10 chest strap. Before you get in the water, the watch gets heartrate from the strap. Presumably once you're swimming the Bluetooth connection is bad, so what happens? Does the watch start up the optical heartrate sensor? Does it toggle randomly between strap and wrist? Since the h10 can store data, is the chest strap data put back on its place when you sync the activity at the end? Once you get out of the water and onto the bike, does the strap take over? Does anyone know?

    • @rodgerhunter41
      @rodgerhunter41 5 лет назад +1

      I’ve just ordered this, I know when I take my h10 strap off with my m600, the optical sensor kicks in with the m600. Not sure about the other way around though. I would expect it would.

    • @DyrtDyver
      @DyrtDyver 5 лет назад +1

      I have been looking for a combination HRM and watch that would not only capture real-time HR data during the swimming activity, but that would also display to you on the watch/device live and in the water, not just afterwards when you get out and the HRM syncs w/ the watch. According to my somewhat brief discussion w/ Polar today, the H10 paired with the Vantage will do just that... transmit real-time HR data to the watch during the swimming activity, possible because of whatever protocol is able to carry out the the 5KHz transmission (since neither BT nor ANT+ nor any wrist-based optical HRM can transmit through the water medium). That's pretty compelling for Polar given nobody else's device can do this, but I agree w/ several comments about some of the other basic functionality that the omitted. I suppose it comes down to some sacrifices and priorities that each of us must make for ourselves.

    I have bought a v800 2 years ago following your awesome reviews & comparisons chart, for triathlon and trail running, barometric altimeter a must. I was waiting for an upgrade from polar but the price tag of the V too high IMO, and one the most downside is their bike cadence that must be thrown away once battery is dead, really hoped they worked on that.Still like v800 shape though and I don t see upgrading until polar introduces ant+ support, seems like it will never happen.

Think last used it in 2005 London Marathon as the Forerunner 201 of the time was a brick and had no HR of course but it did set me out on the GPS path and Polar took far too long to wake up. In fact I think I may have 3 NVs. There were HR range pickup issues so they sent me a few more to try :) One thing I never found anything better was their HR editor - good to quickly clean up the odd spike or, er, dropout!
