A few weeks ago, my family discovered we are descendant from the Bourbons and Catherine is our connecting ancestor to the Lombardi Medici. Fun fact is I've been to the Medici Palace in Florence and never knew!
Fun fact: König (meaning king in german) is one of the common surnames in germany. The kings got around a lot. And that's just the ones who came from the time when people first started to use last names. So yeah, I guess a quarter of europe is somehow related to some ruler.
What's interesting is that I'm Blood related to Lorenzo the Magnificent from my great great grandfather's mother's side of the family. The sir name that is used by the those who are blood related to Lorenzo the Magnificent is now DiLorenzo.
This video contains bits & pieces from a 4-part documentary called: "The Medici - Godfathers of the Renaissance". Also, this video abruptly cuts off at the end. Some of the information is inaccurate, therefore, I'd consider this more as entertainment than educational (just for my future reference).
@@EMarcisz32Actually, this video contains bits and pieces of another 4-part series of videos. But that's irrelevant to most of us since much of the information is inaccurate. Thanks anyway.

Copernicus had already published his report of a heliocentric solar system long before Galileo, and encountered no major resistance from the Church. Galileo’s issues with the Church involved many other issues. This is conveniently ignored by this show’s writers and producers.
Copernicus was considered a weirdo with insane theories by most people. The problem with Galileo, among other things, was that more and more people believed him! Not the majority, but an important minority. But you're right, this show is trying to set up galileo as a kind of unique superhuman. He was amazing, true, but he didn't come from nowhere and he wasn't the only one inventing things.
Copernicus was afraid of Church repercussions so much so that he waited till the very last moment to publish his discoveries. He died short after publication, thus Church he "encountered no major resistance from the Church" ;p
Whats sad is that this theory was developed by Copernicus and approved by a Medici pope Guilio 100yrs before Galileo. Gulio was a nephew to Lorenzo the magnificent
This documentary is incredibly inaccurate and WRONG. I stopped watching 5 minutes in when it tells us that Michelangelo was a contemporary of Cosimo De Medici (uh, WRONG). FACTS: 1) Michelangelo was born over TWENTY YEARS AFTER Cosimo had DIED! 2) Michelangelo's mentor was Lorenzo De Medici (the grandson of Cosimo De Medici). 3) Michelangelo's statue of David broke in 1491 (NOT during Cosimo's time because, OBVIOUSLY, Michelangelo wasn't born yet). HOW the hell could they have gotten so much info so wrong (and that's just in the first five minutes)?? If you're interested in the Renaissance, I'd suggest you watch Waldemar Januszczak's RENAISSANCE UNCHAINED. Januszczak is interesting, ACCURATE and funny as hell. Just an IMHO post. "
I just want to point out he's talking about Cosimo the first the grand duchy of Florence not Cosimo the banker Cosimo the first was very much alive during Michelangelo
I AM PROUD TO BE A MEDICI BY BIRTH AND NOW BY MARRIAGE. I WAS BORN AS, NIESHA MONIQUE O'BROWN DE ALVAREZ DE MEDICI O'WINDSOR DE ST NICKOLAS. AND I AM NOW 33 YEARS LATER THE WIFE OF ANTONIO MEDICI. Galileo had proof of the heliocentric solar system. It was no longer a theory. Copernicus didn't have that kind of evidence.
Copernicus was considered a weirdo with insane theories by most people. The problem with Galileo, among other things, was that more and more people believed him! Not the majority, but an important minority.

In fact, a Medici pope was the one that aproved Copernicus teachings. Guilio was a nephew of Lorenzo de Medici.

I was looking for history on Catherine dear Medici. This has nothing to do with her. Boo

Very saddenimg and disappointing Gallio's end.
