My brother studied languages at the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center in California. The pace of study was intense. Students had to master the language course in 36-64 weeks. Psychologically it was very difficult, but fortunately he was helped by Yuriy Ivantsiv's book "Polyglot Notes. Practical tips for learning foreign languages”. The book " Polyglot Notes" became a desk book for my brother, because it has answers to all the problems that any student of a foreign language has to face. Hi Jennifer, thanks again for this good article l studied keenly. It called back old memories when l exchanged letters with penpals in Victoria (British Columbia) Canada. That was in thé 80's, unlike thé pair in thé article l've never had the chance to meet those good people. Too much time spent doing things and as time went by, letters grew scarce and ended when l got m'y first job. I must admit l have some regret not keeping in touch with them. By now, the must have kicked the bucket as they were much older than l. If l enroll to your english course, will l be able to talk to you or other students? That could be great to start being more confident.
