In the biblical sense, a miracle is an extraordinary event which takes place in a manner contrary to the regularly observed processes of nature.
Regardless of who the direct agent of the miraculous occurrence happens to be, the Bible always recognizes the power of God as the ultimate source of such events.
The principle groups of miraculous events in the Old Testament are those connected with the Exodus and Wilderness wanderings, and the groups of miracles attributed to Elijah and Elisha.
These were not done merely to dazzle his audience or to gain a reputation as a wonder -worker; this is made clear by his refusal to comply with request for a sign.
